How many days off work ?
Pescador replied to Amayor85's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
At 66 I was shopping four days after surgery, slowly walking the mall. Never needed pain meds after surgery, once I left the hospital. I know I was afraid of how I would feel, but it was wonderful!!! Much better than anticipated. -
You can do anything after surgery that you do now. Living it and loving it!!!!!

Needing encouragement
Pescador replied to librarianlk's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Therapists can be great, or not. Sounds like you need a change. My husband was on Optifast twice in his life, a year of shakes, and lost 100 lbs each time. Immediately gained it back. He was fat all his life, and miserable. At age 66, after 15 years of weight loss surgery seminars, I led him into the sleeve. He was so scared about it. We now have the greatest laughs over that. He is 69 this year, has a wardrobe that makes him come out dancing everytime he gets dressed, and for the first time in his life he feels good about himself. Priceless! I also had the sleeve, and we are living life, on the beach, and no longer vegetating. -
Wanting to Over eat....
Pescador replied to Kgmz0219's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I think the psychological aspect of the impending surgery causes this. I remember going and spending two hours in the grocery store, relaxing and reading food labels was good for me. I just kept busy!!! -
I think all of us have struggled. Reading many posts tells you this isn't easy. Tracking and journaling my food is my lifesaver. In a plain old notebook. Good luck! Lose the scale awhile and focus on living!

Some days I eat, some days I am not hungry. I think the best answer is to just eat healthy. Good luck!!

I just keep my mouth shut, tell no one, and get no crap. I have zero tolerance for criticism, or talk behind my back.

I hurt for you. We can all offer opinions, and it is just that, our opinion. What bothers me is he is waiting until he decides what to do about your marriage. Just a thought, maybe you should be the one to decide about your marriage. You are the only one who knows your love for each other, and what kind of marriage you have. Maybe you should. Seek out a pastor for counseling. Best of luck, I have been where you are and I thank God I am not in that unhappy place anymore. ❤️

What do you wish you had taken to hospital?
Pescador replied to Nurse_Lenora's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
You won't need much of anything. Got to hospital, prepped, sleep, surgery, recovery room, sleep, walk, and go home, all within 10 hours. Didn't need a thing. -
It's all so surreal...
Pescador replied to Terance ✌❤️????'s topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
You will be so happy you did this! Remember, there are thousands of us who went before you. Everything you feel, most of us have been there. Thank God for the helpful people who can soothe your fears. I will be 70 this year and I would do it again. ❤️ -
Your sister has already told imo. No one's business but yours and that is not lying when you tell no one.

reactive hypoglycemia (reoccurring low blood sugar)
Pescador replied to Healthy_life2's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
My husband had terrible low blood sugars before the sleeve - and numerous ambulance rides unconscious. None since, except for Ketoacidosis2 years after the sleeve. I am thankful for the sleeve and the stabilization of his blood sugar. I am thankful for his life. -
What are you eating for Super Bowl Sunday?
Pescador replied to Cape Crooner's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
2 1/2 years after the sleeve I will have a meatball, or a cup of chili, or raw veggies, at a club we belong to. I will cook and likely eat what I take. Pret much my husband and I eat whatever we like, share a filet mignon, and eat in moderation. The food is not that important anymore. Loving it. -
I went out to a brunch 4 weeks after surgery and had a cup of bisque I sipped on. Maybe soup is an option!
-
I will be 70 this year. Had the sleeve Nov. 2013. It got me off Metformin, one BP pill, and asthma meds. I was a mess.

I survived a four year abusive maniac when I was 39, after a 20 year marriage. My advice would be to get through your surgeries, take care of yourself, and get yourself in a position of being self supported with a job and a positive support system. The future will be brighter!!!!!!!! Best of luck, keep focused!

I was 67, sleeved 2 1/2 years ago. Never felt better. Would do it again in a heartbeat.

I lost my hair from five months out, for so long. A good wig saved me. I took Biotin over a year, no results, just kept losing hair. Finally started taking Hair Vitamins about a year and half after the sleeve, and now it is 2 1/2 years and I am finally hair happy again. I cut my hair short, did everything possible to make it healthy, and there are just some of us who will have more hair loss. We will all survive it! Good luck everyone.

If you can eat protein bars you can eat anything. Scrambled eggs, boiled eggs, soft fish, there. So many options. Enjoy your trip and just have a fanny pack, string cheese, protein shakes. The happiest, healthiest, and least hungry I was, was about six weeks post surgery! Have fun!!!

I absolutely left Bariatric Pal because of posts like these. I am back because I need support. Sounds like the 9th grade popular girls attacking the weak. High fiving each other because they are so cute. Good grief women!

How much ounces do you eat after 1 year?
Pescador replied to Hagar.vsg's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
I learned I could eat pretty much anything, even though it got uncomfortable, and I kept grazing. Since my husband was sleeved also, I do not cook. His choices were better than mine. I learned that I must journal my foods the rest of my life. I thought I wasn't eating much.. The scale proved me wrong. -
Did you keep your surgery a secret?
Pescador replied to readyforachange84's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
My husband and I were sleeved together. He is very private, I tell the world. He convinced me it is his business therefore even his son doesn't know. Frankly I am thankful, because I don't want to talk about it anyway. Life is good. -
Hair loss...does it ever come back?
Pescador replied to Jengarcia055's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Rking, the hair vitamins helped turn it around. I took so many vitamins, and still even Thiamine shots now. I seemed to have worse problems than most people here. -
She works in the office of the Bariatric Surgeon, is on his staff. Lots of job poSsibilities there!!!!!

My doctor started me with a life coach in his office after I regained 25 lbs., and after two visits I realized Even though I was eating less than I used to I had resorted to eating the same foods I used to especially over Thanksgiving and Christmas. Six days of writing down every bite I have lost 8 lbs. I could not believe I had wandered off the path of eating the way I should, so easily, with a bite here, and a bite there. I stopped the Life Coach and got back on Bariatric Pal, and am determined to not fall to the wayside again. I WILL write down every bite I take.
