Mourning the loss of food for comfort?
Pescador replied to ella37's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
Comfort food equals my Mother and her teaching me to make biscuits, gravy, chicken and dumplings. I splurge at Thanksgivings or Christmas. Thank goodness my husband and I were sleeved together. -
No carbs - love them but a rare treat!

Post Op Food Suggestions
Pescador replied to ChunkyMonkeyGoneSlim's topic in Post-op Diets and Questions
I craved spicy food and made my own chili as low fat as possible, adding beans too. It was a staple for me, just 1/2 cup of sipping. Sure curbed my appetite. I was amazed that I was not hungry. Three years later I fight the hunger. Still trying hard. -
The days of meal planning are gone, thank goodness. When my husband and I have smoked salmon, boiled eggs, cottage cheese, Protein shakes, fruit, salad mixings, fresh vegetables, and Proteins on hand, we eat as we like. Sleeved together, we enjoy eating differently but eating together. A good store bought rotisserie chicken is priceless, for several meals. Sent from my iPad using the BariatricPal App

Did anyone NOT have a miserable recovery?
Pescador replied to ella37's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
I often wondered if I was sleeved with the lack of problems. Easiest thing ever. Life has changed tremendously at the age of 70, kayaking, boating, shopping and loving life. Hair loss was the worst part, but finally resolved. Wish all the best! -
Will I ever enjoy food I like again
Pescador replied to hazelzay's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
There is nothing I cannot eat. Nothing. There will be that day. Hopefully you focus on the good stuff. Three years later I am doing shakes now, trying to lose. -
Post Op Sleeve 2 1/2 years skin /vitamin problems
Pescador posted a topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I am so frustrated. I have been low in Thiamine and taking injections weekly. I am high in B6 toxicity. I eat healthy. I lost hair pathetically for over a year. I get blood work every three months and see the surgeon. My lips peel dramatically and around my mouth terrible. I slather every expensive good scent free lotion and Vaseline on my face and lips. I quit using soap on my face. I use expensive Lancome or Estée Lauder products when I go out, and nothing on my face most days at home. I am at my wits end. -
I think this surgeon needs some serious education on nutrition!!Eating an apple does not give you complete nutrition, and by eating so little one would completely stuff up their metabolism! Eating mindlessly all day is wrong, im not sure if he meant it in that context, but meeting your daily calories and macros is important for health in general. If the slower weight-loss is a concern for you, perhaps reevaluate what you are eating, are you having something that "seems" healthy but truly isnt? It could be a small tweak that makes a world of difference. What do you eat in a typical day? 1 boiled eg or nothing for Breakfast No bread, rice, potatoes, sweets or carbs in my house Water all day long Portion of 1 cup or less of anything for dinner, such as last night, 1/2 grilled chicken breast. Sometimes just steamed cabbage. My husband and I were sleeved together, he eats lots more and maintains. I was drinking a little wine but stopped completely. I might snack on 1/4 cup guacamole loaded with fresh tomato, 4-5 almonds. If I were eating this little food before the sleeve I feel I would be losing weight.

serious question for fellow "veterans"
Pescador replied to CowgirlJane's topic in WLS Veteran's Forum
Sam, my husband and I were sleeved in December 2013. He was overweight since he was a baby. He has gone from 320 to 220, he is so happy. He kept 1x to 3x clothes for forty years. Boxed and labeled. He lost 100 lbs twice on Optifast shakes - two years of liquids, no food. We went to WL seminars 15 years. The sleeve was presented to us at a seminar, and I led him to the fire. All the boxes of cloths are gone to Goodwill, and he wears a Large shirt now. He is off two BP meds and his insulin use is much less. His passion is clothes shopping these days, and looking good. We have had no problems with the sleeve in three years. We are living life again, boating and traveling. We can leave home for the day with two apples and Water or Crystal Light. We eat out regularly and share one Mel since surgery. We share a filet mignon with l vegetable. We would do the sleeve again in a heartbeat. My husband is not on BPal but I can tell you this has been the greatest ride. He will be 69 this year, and is healthier, happier and thin. God bless. -
I agree KarenDM about people discussing your weight. People gush over our weight loss, especially my husband, and it is annoying as heck. Thankful they do not know about the sleeve.

Is anyone not taking reflux meds post-VSG?
Pescador replied to kinkymoo's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
2 1/2 years post sleeve I am having severe reflux. Never had it in my life. Trying to cope. -
Can't you call them? There are so many surgeons and each of us have different rules and diets. It's crazy sometimes. If it is pre-op I would just eat liquids when hungry and just try to stay busy. Good luck, but try to call your surgeon!

serious question for fellow "veterans"
Pescador replied to CowgirlJane's topic in WLS Veteran's Forum
I joined prior to my sleeve in November, 2013. I posted hundreds and hundreds of posts, trying to be helpful, trying to get help. I cannot imagine what I would have done without the support I received here, and made many friends. I guess I was here about 1 1/2 years, and I hit a post that sucked the life out of me. Way too much negativity and I let it affect me. I just walked away. Now almost a year later, I gained 20 lbs, and slid back in here under a new name, to try to get myself back on track. I just limit my interaction and scroll past the problem posters that bother me. All you wonderful veterans who have stuck it out here, I really appreciate you for all the wonderful help and support that I needed so badly. You have a wealth of information to share, and I hope that each of you stay and keep Bariatric PAl the great place it is meant to be. -
Premier Protein is the only one we like and drink.
-
We were cautioned not to chew gum.
-
I know I eat too fast. It does get stuck and makes me miserable. I tr and try and try to slow down!
-
Moving around seems to be the only way I can get rid of the problem.

Sounds like if it is that bad you need a doctor's opinion. It's your life! Take care of yourself. -
Self-soothing and comfort foods post bariatric surgery.

I just started testing hot teas, started with Chai and cinnamon. Added lemon, then a tiny bit of honey. I plan to go through a lot of testing this winter. -
Good luck Julie, and happy Valentines Day too!

Meds and weight gain
Pescador replied to Lucrezaborgia's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
So sorry for all you have gone through but at least you understand and fight all this. Depression and three months of Prozac mouth me to my highest weight ever. I was more depressed from the weight gain. I am free of meds now, still have lots of days of depression, especially the holidays when my son passed away, but I het through it. The psychiatric Nurse Practitioner was so gentle with me, and I am horrified some said shut your mouth to you. From our experience, my surgeon didn't want to hear about problems except the sleeve. I hope you find the right combination of doctors who can help you. Keep up the good work!!! -
Get in a hot bath early evening, then eat dinner in your Jammie's. You won't want to get dressed and go back out. You are letting your mind control you with your urge to go get something. Change that pattern!!! Good luck!
