When you can't visualize being slim.
Pescador replied to Ebony Rose's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
I was too concerned about getting through each stage to even dream of how I might look. I think the older you get, like me, you worry more about your health issues. Best wishes!!! -
It's lonely in this thread, YooHoo, anyone else out there?
Pescador replied to stoongal's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
It has been the best decision of our lives. We were in such terrible health, and we are now paddling kayaks! Walking on the beach, and boating in North Florida and Pensacola. Just plain living again! -

Seventy and so happy. My husband and I share a plate wherever we go and no one questions it because we are watching our weight, with no one the wiser that we had the sleeve. No drama in our lives! -
I just turned 70 and had my sleeve at 66 with my husband. It has been life changing and we would do it again in a heartbeat. 15 years of WL seminars for him, and I led him to the fire. He is so thankful, happy, and 100 lbs. lighter for the rest of his life.

You have a double whammy. I hope you have a NUT who should have an ideal plan for you. The FF soups were a blessing, the low sodium broths, the low fat cheese sticks, FF refried beans with salsa and sour cream, smoked Salmon, tuna, and even the shakes which never bothered me. I love the sugar free Torani syrups in all flavors. Good luck. If your insurance covers a nutritionist, or there is one on your surgeons staff, please look toward good advice! Best of luck!

Need encouragement!
Pescador replied to KaylaWls1216's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
If you have a good surgeon who has a good staff, you never have to worry about anything. They do all the legwork. They handle the Medicare. EVerything. My husband and I had the sleeve, and never once had to do anything except what our surgeon and staff told us to do. I hope it works out for you, sincerely. -
The struggles are real. My health was severely declining with onset diabetes, asthma, HBP, so I qualified for the sleeve. It has drastically changed my life. My husband has had diabetes 40 years, so that is what scared me the most. I can now walk a block without gasping, my feet are slender, not puffed up with fluids, and I am off Metformin, and off one HBP med. I wish everyone the best!

Hospital stay: what should I take with me?
Pescador replied to katie09/21/2016's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
I vote for no bra and a loose shirt! I hate bras! -
Sorry Mom, I just cannot imagine someone telling you to gain weight to pay for surgery. It struck me as weird and off popped my mouth. Maybe there is more to this such as severe health problems? Make a good informed decision and good luck!

Gastric Sleeve vs. Gastric Bypass?
Pescador replied to chuswysly's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
We had the sleeve. I have several friends and family do the bypass. Some were so successful with the bypass, some gained it all back by eating mac and cheese and mashed potatoes. I have gained 20 lbs I lost with the sleeve. I believe it is up to the individual and their eating habits. I see a lot of bypass patients here who end up with the sleeve. I hope you really research this, because we all have such different experiences. Personally my husband and I attended WL seminars 15 years, and until the sleeve seminar, we felt everything else was not right for us. So thankful and happy. My husband has lost 100 lbs! Life changing! -
Weird.

Hair Loss and Hair Extensions
Pescador replied to BJames42613's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I took Bioten, the placebo, I did everything under the sun to save my hair. Quit coloring, everything! Five months to 1. 1/2 years, thank God I found an awesome wig. An extension would not have helped the hair loss around my face. I survived with visors too, in the Florida heat. Happy to have a healthy head of hair now, three years later. I thought I would be lucky, NOT. -
SO EMOTIONAL AND EXCITED AT THE SAME TIME!

It will all fall into place and I will never forget the excitement of preparing for the sleeve! -
A Tale of Two Grandmas
Pescador replied to gowalking's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
Fantastic !!!! -
One thing I learned. After one year I went on a cruise, had a dinner roll every night, great meals, then went to Perdido Key eating out for a month. It put me on a path to regaining 20 lbs. I am back on track with shakes, salads, and proteins. I have finally lost ten hard to go pounds. If you don't stay focused and track your food, like me, you will gain, and I can tell you that even TEN POUNDS is hard to get off.

Crushed Warfarin/Coumadin is Nasty. How do I hide the taste?
Pescador replied to Nikki Bailey's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
Applesauce or cinnamon applesauce is the greatest! -
These posts make me appreciate that my husband and I had this surgery three years ago and his request was that I not discuss our surgery. It makes life easier, and more pleasant. I am thankful it is not the focus of our relationships and life. We are all so different, and that makes us all unique!

Wish I knew ahead of time what my tummy likes - wasting food and money
Pescador replied to trekker954's topic in Post-op Diets and Questions
I also live in Florida, and our favorite meals are blackened or grilled Mahi, Grouper, and other salt water yummy fish. Old Bay seasoning is my favorite. It takes a very few minutes to sauté the fish. Scallops are soft also. I really enjoy making a fresh crabmeat salad, with Avocado. Pinterest has so many versions. I do not like deli meats at all without bread! I have a love for spicy Mexican food, so at your stage I enjoyed a couple teaspoons refried beans topped with salsa. There are so many options for food, that I found it fun to create. Good luck! -
Tried cottage cheese for the first time - help me jazz it up
Pescador replied to trekker954's topic in Post-op Diets and Questions
A little sugar free Jam or Jelly if you like sweet. Cottage cheese goes with any fruit, any veggies, especially sliced tomatoes. I love it! -
At what point did you notice your weight loss slow down?
Pescador replied to IveGotThePower's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
Stalls off and on for three years. Start living and ditch the scale! Eat healthy! -
Honestly my husband and I enjoyed the pre-op meetings as we needed so much information about diabetes and insulin. Didn't get the information we needed, but we made it. After the sleeve, the meetings were run by the talk on and on about myself individuals who loved to hear themselves talk, instead of hearing from each person, 15-20 of us. I have learned more on my own, and have enjoyed the journey. I have enough trouble taking care of my household, my loved ones, my husband and I being sleeved and still striving to be healthy, that I do not want to ever waste a minute of my life being concerned about the way someone else acts. I really enjoy encouraging each person here who is walking this road because I remember being very afraid going into the surgery.

Any coffee drinkers in the house?
Pescador replied to jenrae1's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Seeing the clumps of protein powder I cannot imagine shaking it and drinking it later. Maybe it works for some. My husband drank a pot of coffee each morning post sleeve, and I drank one cup. No problems whatsoever. -
How to break the habit of eating and drinking
Pescador replied to JayVSG's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I avoid the water when eating. Sometimes I forget and it is really evident because I eat a little too much. Leave the water somewhere else, tea, or whatever. It does make a difference. -
Let's face it, we can do and eat as we want, and I never thought of asking anyone here if I could eat a taco so soon. I was so in fear of my possible choking or death that it took me about four months to chew lettuce. I am three years out and just had 1/4 piece of bread , and the choking feeling in my chest was not worth it. When I was two months out I choked on a small bit of soft crockpot chicken, and the fear of God was put into me. I know the questions about eating a chicken leg one week post op will continue, but I love the lighthearted joking that entertains us all. Loosen up as you tighten up your panties!
