12 days post op and hungry--normal?
Pescador replied to HorsecollarMinnie's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Pretty soon you can eat puréed chili and bites of refried beans. Something to look forward to. -
Well said. Congrats! Diabetes is what motivated me and my husband. Would do it again in a heartbeat.
-
There is always a friend here for support, like picking up the phone. Also, all the information you need. Hang in ther, you are doing an amazing job for yourself, and my husband and I did the sleeve without anyone knowing also. I am glad you have your friend. She will also need you to comfort her, so take care of yourself. A hug and a prayer.

Ditch the scale and start living, not stressing. Weigh once a week or two weeks.

No drinking with meals?
Pescador replied to gustavio's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
It makes your food slide down too quickly, which will make you hungry way too soon. You really need to follow this rule. There are thousands of posts here that explain it better than me, but to be safe leave your drinks away from the table. When we eat out we do not order any drinks. -
Share Your Soup, Stew, or Chili Recipe!
Pescador replied to Alex Brecher's topic in Food and Nutrition
I make recipes up as I go and love experimenting but anyone who likes this can make it to their taste. My husbands favorite is a crab bisque. It is loaded with lots of Fresh crabmeat, FF milk, white wine, Old Bay seasoning to taste, salt, pepper, Parmesan cheese, mild cheddar cheese and a little hot sauce for kick. I love winter foods. -
It happens to almost everyone. There are more posts about stalls here than anything else, so you should carry on, don't weigh every day, and get out and enjoy life. Good luck!

We were warned no gum, candy or mints, and no straws. I can understand the reasoning, that the gum could get stuck if you swallow, like the piece of small soft chicken I choked on and could not breathe. Also I understand the straw causes you to suck in air as you sip.

Welcome and best wishes. I don't know the answer but the surgeon definitely will!

What an amazing journey you are on! I am so excited for you!!!!! Keep on track! -
I am so proud for you taking advantage of the hospital's help in having the sleeve. You will do wonderful.

dccarite, you are in exactly in the same frame of mind as so many here, when they were preparing for surgery. I personally was in a state of fear and extreme excitement, at the age of 67, because even at my age I do not want to look old, fat and matronly, but most important I wanted to stop the diabetes before I was put on insulin. My asthma has improved to where I can walk a block without gasping, my husband is off his Cpap, he has lost 100 lbs, and gave away all the bins of 4X, 3X and 2X clothes. We both did this because of health problems. We were unable to do much of anything. Now we are traveling, walking on the beach, kayaking, boating around Florida, just a great life. This has been such an exciting journey. For younger people it is best to do this before you get the diabetes and health problems! GOod luck!

How do I swallow all these pills?
Pescador replied to rolosmom7's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
We have a small plastic pill cutter and we cut some in half or fourths. In no time we were swallowing them whole. Just not all at one time, like we can do now. -
Stay in bed, get rest. Sip good broth, add protein powder to soups. Get your liquids with things like SF packets of apple cider, hot tea. Hope you get well soon.

How do I swallow all these pills?
Pescador replied to rolosmom7's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
We managed to continue taking a lot of meds. I would recommend spacing them out a little, some pills can be cut in half. The big vitamin I conquered by going to a liquid vitamin called Source of Life, highly recommended by our pharmacist who has a health food store. The more we got comfortable with the sleeve, the easier it was. Capsules can be opened and sprinkled into applesauce, such as Omeprazole. -
If you think it is not normal then please call your surgeon! Good luck.

Negative comments - not "fat enough"?
Pescador replied to Jim Paulette's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Vamping, three years post surgery, I think I am just allergic to my weight being the topic of conversations, and they have no idea I had the sleeve. If people knew, they just want to go on and on. I really admire people who are open about it because let's face it, there is NO need to be ashamed. I would support anyone who shared with me, it just bothers me to talk about myself! No harm intended, best of luck! -
Headaches seem to be universal in this process. Worse than surgery lol!

Negative comments - not "fat enough"?
Pescador replied to Jim Paulette's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
One thing I don't do is discuss my weight, health and surgery with strangers in a waiting room. My weight is not discussed with my neighbors or family. Too many people have their opinions, and AAAARRRRGGGGGHHHH I don't want their opinions!!!!!!! I just want to enjoy life! -
Starting my 2week protein pre op on wed...so nervous!
Pescador replied to Sherbear2's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
Relax and stay busy. The fear of the unknown is what is scary. At age 66, I felt so great I honestly wondered if they really did anything to me. I spent about 8 hours in the hospital, before and after, the sleeve took 30 minutes total, I took ONE pain pill at home, was shopping and walking four days later, and felt like a million dollars with hope for the future. Everyone hates the two week before and after foods, but we all did it, and seriously it's like getting our pacifier taken away when we can't eat what we want. After surgery you 88042971I'll be able to eat anything and everything. It is your choice. You just cannot eat as much! Best of luck. -
Pushing my surgery date back.... I'm so scared
Pescador replied to Marie1120's topic in Mexico & Self-Pay Weight Loss Surgery
My husband and I were scared to death but more afraid of the diabetes and health problems that WILL come with obesity. We are loving life, at 69 and 70 years old now. Live while you are young. Thankful we didn't let fear stop us. We celebrated with new kayaks! -
My husband is 6'1", was 320 lbs. he is 100 lbs lighter and it is wonderful!

I loaded up thinking I would be housebound and recuperating when I was out of the house driving to the store two days later. I threw away so much, the protein powders that expired. What I now realize is that you should keep the basics, shakes, puddings, jello, yogurts, bouillon, FF creamed soups, crystal Light, SF Torani syrups, Cream of Wheat. I wasted so much money. I bought the Unjury soups that clumped when hot and they went in the trash. They are only good lukewarm. I think my homemade chili was the most wonderful soft food I ever tasted when I reached that stage.
