I seriously wondered if I had a sleeve done. I was 67, took l pain pill at home. I wish everyone had such an experience! -
What did you take to the hospital?
Pescador replied to Williwaw's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
I took nothing. I was there 8 hours. They give you non- slip socks to walk in. I never once had the urge to look at a phone or iPad. Surgery, sleep, swallow, and Headed home. Good luck! -
Day of... what was it like for you?
Pescador replied to njgal's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
I was 67, 4 years ago. I went to the hospital, about 6 am, had sleeve by 10 am, went to room, slept, walked, had swallow test, and was home in 8 hours. Never looked at my phone, or needed anything. Wore loose clothes there, and wore them home. Took one pain pill when I got home. Drove to the grocery store late the next day. Never felt like I even had surgery. I walked in the mall about four days later. I wish everyone had such an experience. -
Exact same thing here - 30 lbs. I am at 190, 5'5". I eat very little. Acid reflux makes me feel sick all the time. Nothing helps. 2 years out and regain reached 30 lbs, and no matter what, I cannot lose.

Chicken too early dangerous?
Pescador replied to SippinAintEasy's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
4 years post sleeve chicken still chokes me. When I was first cleared for chicken, I cooked it slow in the crockpot, very soft and juicy. It stuck in my chest, and I could not breathe. It was horrible!!! Finally decided. I am giving up chicken, unless it is nibbling on chicken salad. -
Sleeve 8/21 .. I have had gout 4 times ,. I think it is protein drink .. any ideas ???
Pescador replied to pinkcaddywant2b's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
Tart Cherry capsules. Find the juice too. Publix might carry it. 8/21 is a new sleeve but make sure you eliminate meat. You can make veggie smoothies if you cannot tolerate the celery. Just use the blender, with Almond Milk, zucchini, kale, anything that suits your fancy. Do NOT let anyone prescribe these killer meds to you. I felt I had no choice, no direction from anyone. Thank God for my Pharmacist who runs a natural food shoppe in my City. -

I had gout beginning 30 days after the sleeve, for FIVE MONTHS, rotating to toes on both feet. I was walking with a cane, and crying with pain. My Bariatric doc said wasn't his problem, my Internist recommended two deadly drugs, one was indomethacin I think, deadly to sleeve patients. I had no choice. I could not stand the pain. The drugs put me in the hospital, deathly ill. I recovered, stopped the drugs, and suffered. I went to a compound pharmacist friend, hobbled in with my cane. In a one hour consult he prescribed this. Eat only vegetables and fruit for 2 weeks. Take tart cherry caplets, about 3 a day, celery caplets, use Tumeric on my food With salt and pepper the rest of my life, which you can google. Find tart cherry juice in a health food store if you can. Eat lots of celery! I swear to you in four days I was easing up on the pain. Five years later, I have all these caplets in my house. I have not had gout since. That is the worst pain ever. I am living proof of this natural cure when the doctors and meds nearly killed me. -
Chicken too early dangerous?
Pescador replied to SippinAintEasy's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
BEWARE? I had a bite of moist juicy chicken about 7 weeks out, per my plan, and it lodged in my throat. I could not breathe. I ran thru the house like a crazy person, it moved down and I could breathe. I dearly love white chicken, but it lodges in my chest four years post sleeve. I no longer plan to eat it, because just recently a rotisserie chicken just reminded me. -

Ideas on what to tell work
Pescador replied to general_antiope's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
Say Hernia. My husband and I both had hernias. My husband and I were sleeved and told no one not even his 30 yo son. We lost weight slowly, ate healthy, ate less, and were watching what we ate. Four days after the sleeve I drove to and walked the mall. I was in the hospital 8 hours and needed no pain meds at home. So no one had any idea. Now we have people gushing on and on about the weight loss, and God forbid I had to listen to them tell everyone about our sleeve. My husband has taught me you don't owe anyone an explanation and it sure uncomplicated our life. -
Alcohol for Bariatric Vets
Pescador replied to JupiterinVirgo's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
I have two times had a glass of wine at dinner, went home and had a rum drink and was so intoxicated it was awful. Both times it hit me like a ton of bricks. Just beware, especially single girls! -
I am not sure why it happens. Seems it would be lower down. Just resting or walking relieves it. I feel it in the middle of my chest, even 4 years post sleeve.

Yes. Very common.

Alcohol for Bariatric Vets
Pescador replied to JupiterinVirgo's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
I would be way more concerned after 4-5 glasses of social wine of blacking out somewhere. Very low Alcohol tolerance following the sleeve, and you can get drunk way fast. Beware. Your food addiction can become another addiction. -
The winter months are fine with the wigs, or indoors. I am in the South, and a trip to NOLA the heat nearly killed me. I only wore the wig when I went certain places, and substituted a visor at the grocery store, etc. you may be luck enough to not lose much hair. You must try a wig on, the three I bought on eBay did not fit my head. THe $160 wig I bought was a wash and wear life saver.

I had extreme hair loss but extensions would have pulled more hair out. I wore a nice beautiful wig 2 years, and let my hair relax. Biotin for 2 years was a joke. I am 4 years post sleeve and happy hair again.

I went to seminars with my husband 20 years. Everything seemed too invasive and scary until the right surgeon at a sleeve seminar. Still he was to sold. I discovered with three comorbidities I qualified and I signed up. He followed me into it. He was so afraid because of his severe diabetes, and heart problems. Overweight all his life, I watched him starve himself on Optifast shakes for 2 one year periods, lose 100 lbs, and always gain it back. Now for FOUR years he has kept off the 100 lbs, and no more Rescue calls in the middle of the night. At 70 years old now, kayaking, fishing, boating, he would tell you it is the best thing he ever did for his health! We would both do it again in a heartbeat!

1st restaurant experience post op
Pescador replied to sylvia2017's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
We stay away from pasta and buttery dishes. If we go out to dinner, I order grilled fish or a bun lessburger, and my husband orders a salad and we share with no explanation to anyone. I don't think we ever leave without a go box. My husband being a long time diabetic, potatoes, pasta and carbohydrates are never eaten. My husband has kept off 100 lbs for four years, but if we strayed into certain restaurants like yummy Olive Garden, it would be disastrous. I lost sixty lbs, regained 30, even though we rarely eat out and have no trigger foods in our house, I struggle daily. I eat less than my husband but nothing works. Two years post sleeve I started regaining. I envy people who get the weight off and it stays off. This sleeve wasn't so magic like it was in the beginning. I am still dieting and having vitamin deficiencies. -
why did i bother to tell my friends UGH
Pescador replied to sassy683's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
My husbands 31 year old son has no idea my husband has had a gastric sleeve 4 years ago, and all my husband has said is I am not eating carbs and changing the way I eat, which is true. 100 lbs gone and his son hasn't a clue. You eat less, the weight loss is slow. My husband doesn't want to discuss his personal business with anyone. It's doable. -

My husband doesn't want anyone to discuss his toenails, his heart stent, his diabetes and sleeve. Damn, life is so much easier not sharing your health information! -

Pescador replied to sassy683's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
It has been wonderful that for four years we haven't had to discuss one thing with anyone about our weight. Life goes on very happily without our weight and surgery being the topic. Chose to keep is to ourselves. -
4 years post sleeve we still burp when we overeat or eat too fast.

I drove and walked a mall 4 days after my 8 hours in the hospital for sleeve. I was not sleepy. I was 67 then.
