Don't feel the limitations that I believe I should.
Pescador replied to chai20's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
I admit I am still weak at times. But if I had a sleeve of crackers in my kitchen, I know I would late nite grab one, two, three...... for that reason, there are NO crackers, chips, candy bars or the like in my house. If I feel hungry, I know I have a container of low fat cottage cheese, or a few almond in the kitchen, and all is well with my soul. -
My husband and I share a small filet mignon, and can barely finish it. We were both sleeved. If we even had room for a side, it would be steamed zucchini, definitely not mashed potatoes. Perhaps the mashed potatoes (called slider foods), are sliding your meat on down, therefore you don't get the full feeling.

Yes! I just started it, and I love that it is a small amount compared to other protein powders. I have added it to several things, even V8, with no taste affected.

Cheated 5 days after my sleeve
Pescador replied to jenniferbook902's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
After surgery, you realize that every family function revolves around tons and tons of food. I see my young nieces with plates as full as two grown men should eat. Of course they are already overweight. Very overweight for their age. we go out to dinner, share a plate, and watch a crowd of friends gorging themselves. Funny thing is before surgery we never paid attention, and it is a SMH experience to watch the gorging. None of them want anything said to them about how much they are overeating but they are crying because they are fat. I say family functions especially can get you in trouble with your weight loss, so please try to make a conscious decision before you go, to stick to your guns and not celebrate eating with the family. -

I would like to remind all the newbies that you need to be firm with your families. If someone says here is a chicken nugget, say NO! If you know the family is going to a fast food place, stay home. Always drink a protein shake or protein bar while the family is eating fast food, so you won't be hungry. We all have to be strong to succeed. Your family may feel bad because they know you want to eat with them, but do not allow them to enable you. They will love us to death with food. Good luck everyone. -
I vacationed a month, and went on a cruise. I cruised myself up 20 lbs. Losing this 20 lbs is so hard, even though I am back on shakes and eating right. Makes me furious with myself because those dinner rolls I ate were not worth it. Only we can sabotage ourselves.

Newbie questions sleeved 10/12
Pescador replied to BeYouTiful617's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
It was a really hard journey getting ANSWERS prior to the sleeve, with my husbands severe diabetic problems. No one gave me the right answers that made us feel comfortable, yet the alternative was so bad that we had to trust the surgeon. I am off Metformin and my husband three years later is on a low dose insulin, being diabetic for 40 years. His A1c has lowered drastically, his BP mess have decreased. I have not called rescue in three years, thank GOD. It will definitely help you manage your diabetes. Best of luck! -

I am sincerely sorry to hear that and hope whatever problems you have get resolved. For me and my husband, it really was lifesaving with the severe health problems. Big hug. -

1 month post-op, so many questions!
Pescador replied to avatarkorraa's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I never puréed anything. I took soft food, refried beans, anything I could mash with a fork, and moved on without a problem. Wasn't about to eat puréed meatloaf. Low fat chili was my first "food" about six weeks post sleeve, on Christmas Day. It was wonderful. Good luck, I think you had a rough time but things will look up now. Keep us posted! -

Good grief! (My favorite saying)! Relax and go with it! If something is wrong you will be the first to know! Just do the best you can, read and learn, don't compare yourself to everyone else, call your surgeon if you see blood or you are Dying (as some people say here) or go to the ER. I spent 8 hours in the hospital with the sleeve and took one pain pill at home. I trusted our surgeon that he did an amazing job and I trusted myself to know when to be scared. Try to imagine your wonderful future! Good luck! -
It is good that you are gaining insight here prior to a seminar. My husband and I walked into a WL seminar, one of many in 15 years, and met the most amazing surgeon who completely won our trust and admiration. The best! There was no doubt we were in the right place.

What has been the hardest part of your journey thus far?
Pescador replied to xoxococojay's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
I told you what worked for me, but everyone has different experiences when it comes to therapy. The important thing to realize is that while the surgeon gives you a physical tool, you need psychological tools, too. And they can come from a variety of sources....psychiatrists, counselers, online or in person support groups, addiction recovery programs, self help books, etc. Seek help wherever and whenever you need to. TRUTH! awe are all different. Do not compare yourself to others! Listen and learn! I miss the EDIT button! -

If you find yourself struggling emotionally, seek help. My surgeon has a life coach on staff, and i get to see her on regular visits, to discuss eating, and anything else. She is great. I would say living day to day and not worrying about tomorrow, is the best advice. Just give me beef jerky and a cheese stick and I can get through a day. I miss my mamas chicken and dumplings but I can tell you it is like eating ourselves to the grave. -

It will get better. My husband and I, and so many many people here, had hernia repairs during surgery. Just keep sipping. Look toward the prize! -

Before surgery, it was fear for my husbands life, and my fear of the unknown. After surgery it was fear of what the hell is going to happen now, I will act like I am pitiful and post surgery. Two days later I was walking in the grocery store. Four days later I was in the mall, visualize what I might buy one day. I had a little cheese stick and protein shake with me so I would not be hungry, and damn!!! I never got hungry! Amaaaaaaazzzzziiiinnng! Three years post op, NO FEAR! -

I am having my sleeve surgery on Oct 20 ..any advice on what to bring to the hospital.
Pescador replied to smiley1968's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
It is a little different if you have a long car ride. I live ten minutes away from mine. Just like any surgery, make sure you are comfortable on the ride home. My husband and I never had pain or nausea, but some people do. So you might want to put the a little barf bag in the car. You sure won't need food! Good luck, and I hope you all have an easy surgery like we did at age 67. The fear was in our head but that is all it was. The surgery was no pain! -

No awful bra needed, wear loose clothes! I took my husband with me, in and out of the hospital in 8 hours and never even felt I had surgery. Seriously. It was 10 times easier than I anticipated! -
Newbie questions sleeved 10/12
Pescador replied to BeYouTiful617's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
You need to add flavorings to the shakes, although I do like Premier chocolate remade shakes in the carton. You will hear about Torani SF syrups, Dasani flavored drops, even adding a little SF pudding, low sugar yogurts, even Crystal Light powder. You need to remember there are no medical experts here so if you see blood or have pain, go to the ER or call your doctor. Trust your gut instinct about your body! -
