Keeping the weight off after lap-band removal support thread
smileyk replied to SElaine's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
HI all, has anyone heard how HeadHunter is or has he had his surgery yet??? I would like to know how much removal cost , if insurance want pay , anyone know? hope everyone with complications are feeling much better!! shirley -
Hi everyone, i hope you can help me . I found out i have chrons (in Feb), about 6 wks after band placement. Since surgery i hurt in the center of my upper abd through to my back. It's a dull nagging pain all the time , just seems to hurt worse with friction type movement. I believe it's my band not chrons, reason being is GI doc says chrons is slight and the pain i had with it(chrons) was to my right lower side.I have called my lapband dr and he won't take my pain seriously, he has passed me off to my GI & PCP. Last week i again called his office told them I needed an appt., 2 days later they canceled me saying he needed to lighten his load for a surgery.I suffer at night the most. I called the next day asked them to do whatever to take the band out. I got a call yeaterday that it was denied. I obtained the denial letter from his office. The request letter was so weak and basically suggested i just want it out , but that i do have chrons... I AM SO DISAPPOINTED IN MY LAPBAND SURGEON !!! I have pain and he has not once tried to find out why ... the only other lapband doc in town is out of network and insurance denies him also.(he offered to do egd free of charge , ins / hosp said no) I believe the band is a great tool and i have loss 52 lbs since new years eve, i would have been sold on life with the band BUT i did this band to feel better and be healthy and I HAVE NEVER FELT WORSE ! I am so depressed . I know i rambled (sorry) I have just kept it all inside and with all the problems it could be i'm a little freaked and tired... gonna see if GI doc will do EGD & go from there... want to appeal denial any suggestions good or bad I'm open at this point for anything ... just want the pain to go away....shirley

How many work outside of home and how many have insurance??
smileyk posted a topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
:confused:The reason for this post is because I presently have full coverage insurance and work (3) 12 hr shifts weekly BUT I maybe unemployed soon and without coverage. I'm nervous about band problem's as well as just not having insurance and would appreciate any input. I think it wouldn't be such a big deal to me if I were younger(42) and didn't have the band... The reason I asked about working outside the home is I find it hard to juggle and find I don't do as well at home after work . I think it's emotional eating. How do you find a ''happy medium''?? I am an RN in an Intensive Care unit, maybe a less stressful job will be good for me. Thanks for input:wink: -
I really like this site BUT my bra sits right at that area, how does that feel??? Thanks for the pic...

Hi Chrisann I'm Shirley, I've read many of your posts, we were banded on the same day, new years eve 07. I will get my first fill in a week or so, I have not been as ''happy'' about my band as others. No real reason , just struggling with it all... My question is "what do I need to do to prepare for the fill ?" I would appreciate any other suggestions you might have, thanks. Shirley

Do you think there is discrimination against obese people?
smileyk replied to milton5a's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
It is discrimatory, it's real, it's raging in society AND it's ok... to most people out there. I'm 42, a nurse, been fat 42 years, been obese at least 25 yrs. My highest wt recorded 397, banded 12/31 wt 355, lost 14.5 lbs since banding... with all that out there here's what I wanted to say, I have walked into stores had people completely ignore me , mostly avoid eye contact so they don't have to wait on me. Had people passing me in hallways move so far to the side of the hall they rub the wall never making eye cotact almost like they are scared they'll catch '' being fat'' ... I see the disgust in others eyes when they do attempt to make eye contact ,only to be looking at my stomach because it so big. I 've had men open doors for people 2 feet ahead of me and let it go in my face, YOU can say they would do that to anyone BUT no it's almost understood when your as obese as i am. I've had people I work with ask questions about information they should ask me, and they knew it, they would ignore me and ask my co worker who had to inturn ask me... I finally would leave the area , making them have to hunt me to answer their questions , NOW they ask me first , I can handle my business , hope they can... sorry i strayed ... bottom line is ...people ignore you talk about you, dismiss you, don't invite you, there are some who feel sorry for you. There are so many different discrimatory ways and actions out there I think I have almost accepted them as normal... -
Abdomen/Port site pain?

So relieved to know that someone else is feeling that sort of discomfort when they turn over in bed. I keep telling myself this all will pass, only it seems so slow... -
Tell me about that 1st full day you were home
smileyk replied to gingerbug's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I had surgery 3 days ago, I still don't feel ''GOOD'', guess air in my abdomin is what's causing me problems...It feels like there's a large area & that things are moving around in there. Is this normal??
