My SIL is a skinny person. She looks at food as "filler". If she can eat a little piece of something to make the hunger go away, that is what she does. She doesn't like to cook (which is something I love), and she says she wishes you could eat like you fill your car with gas. Once a week, fill 'er up! I don't think we were really meant to not enjoy our food, but I think the band will definitely help with the full feeling so that a little food takes care of the hunger. One thing that she does wrong though, and it shows on her, is that she doesn't care what it is that she "fills the void" with. If a plain piece of wonder bread will do it, she'll it all the time. A bowl of cold cereal, etc. She doesn't think, "Have I had protein or veggies today?" So, I don't think she is healthier, except that she doesn't have the effect of fat on her body. Karen

I have only had the shoulder pain, it's gone now. I have been losing weight, 16 pounds so far, which I'm sure is water weight, but I'll take anything! I am wondering, do you have to make a whole new ticker to update it? I haven't figure this forum out yet. I know yesterday I joined a challenge, can't seem to find it today. I just got one pound of my 25 pound goal off YIPPEE!! Karen

Fall Weight Loss Challenge
goinggoinggone replied to StartingOver's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
I want to try this. I'm new to the group, new to the band! I will try and get a picture soon. I would like to lose 25 pounds in 10 weeks. Usually with any diet I lose that much at first, so I think I can do it; I'll try it anyway! -
I went last Tuesday to Dr. Joya, surgery went fine. I thought the pain med was lousy, not much more than ibuprofen. My shoulder was the worst part, still is, but it is going away. Took me a few days to sleep on my side, now I'm feeling good, but hungry! I went and got a massage on Monday my shoulder hurt so bad. It helped for a few hours, but was still worth it. Karen

How did you pay for your banding?
goinggoinggone replied to sleepyjean's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
I got a cash advance on a credit card with low interest. It wasn't that using the credit card was so smart, but the payment is about $100. a month, unless we pay more. I plan to save that much at least in groceries. But my husband felt that if I went to the hospital with health problems it would cost us more (uninsured) for a day at a US hospital than the $8,000. for Dr. Joya. I could have waited a year to save, but I had this feeling it needed to be done NOW! -
By now you are probably "filled". I hope it went well. I will be doing that for the first time in a couple weeks and I am watching posts to see what I can learn. My band is a different size, holds 9ccs. I'm glad the fill doctor has done lots of these so they can decide, hopefully, what's good. I have a friend who just went and hers was good. Karen

I'm quite new to the group, had my surgery with Dr. Joya last week in Mexico. I am wondering, if I'm wrong, that's fine... Something like this is awful, but how do you know it happened? I'd like to know the Dr. who lost the patient. I'm not saying I don't think it happened, but it just seems like there would be a little more info. Then a person could check the Dr. and see if he has had any fatalities?? I think I would have probably given more info if I posted this?? Karen
