Ugagirl-I had that happen to me just this past Thursday night-I haven't been banded yet-date is March 25th! But I started on my new life way of eating January 8th and have lost over 51 pounds so far. Thursday night I went to the emergency room with a horrid bladder infection-passing blood clots from places I shouldn't! (excuse the grossness) Anyway, when the nurse came in, she asked my weight and when I told her, she chastized me and said that with my weight was probably causing my infection-I am 46 years old and this makes a total of 3 UTI/bladder infections I have had in my life and I have been overweight all of my life, so the probability of weight causing the infection would be low. And since I have already lost over 50 pounds in a couple months, that would make it more unlikely-then the doctor came in and said I had a whopping bladder infection (duh) and along with the prescriptions, he gave me diet literature. 5 years ago I would have punched them both in the mouth and waddled out-thank goodness I have matured a bit since then.

Least Disgusting Way of Getting 30gr of Protien Per day?
mmh498 replied to Tons of Fun's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
Hi-I haven't been banded yet, next week! But anyway, I have been trying to eat tghe right way for the last couple of months and one way to get the protein in is to use the Special K protein packets that you mix with water. They contain 5 grams of protein each, at 30 calories, so I feel that is a good trade-off. I prefer the iced tea flavor, but suggest you try all 3. Also, it doesn't take much tuna, salmon, or canned shrimp to really make your protein level jump up there. Good luck! -
Good luck with your band-kind of nice to read about someone who has just gotten banded and they are not having a major amount of trouble. I get banded on 3/25 and am very excited and ready for my new way of life. Keep going!

Hot Damn! I am so hyped-made my first goal of losing 50 pounds before I get banded. Was beginning to get a tad worried because I was at a standstill of some sort, but it happened. Doing extremely well on my liquid diet, not even tempted to eat real food.

Protein Drink Recommendation, Please
mmh498 replied to tammygirl's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I am drinking the EAS protein drinks-I get them at Wal-mart for about $5.50 for 4 drinks. I think they are quite tasty. I also use the whey protein powder from Wal-Mart-I have only tried the chocolate, but it is good. -
Yesterday marks 2 months on my new life way of eating and I have lost 46 pounds. Kathy took me out and bought me 3 new pair of jeans, size 26-down from size 34. Still huge, but not as huge, lol. Feels good to wear clothes that fit, and no damn suspenders. 2 and a half weeks before my surgery, I am so hyped!

mmh498 replied to hopeinapril's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Hopeinapril-thanks very much for the words of encouragement-they are greatly appreciated and I am sure in the coming months I will be looking for such words everywhere, when things get tough or I have had a bad day. One of the reasons I have lost so much so quickly is that I have an extreme amount to lose. I started at 318.6 and my goal is 140-so I am definitely going to need friends who know what I am going through. Could you please tell me, step by step, how to put the ticker on my profile and all the info like beginning weight, current weight, etc.? I didn't know I was so stupid on the computer until I tried that. Marcie -

mmh498 replied to hopeinapril's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Hi-My surgery date is also March 25th and I am so ready for this. I have known for about 7 weeks now that March 25th would be my date, so I decided to start eating right right then. I have lost 43 pounds so far, and am so happy about my "jumpstart". I am also self-pay and wish everyone the best. It is a lot of money, but is there anything better to spend money on than a person's health? I don't think so. -
Grand total so far of 40 1/2 pounds. Starting to go slower now, but that is expected-main thing is that I am losing. I feel better with just this amount of weight gone, cannot imagine how I will feel when I reach my goal.

Got on the scales today and am now at 280 even, and as huge as that is, it is quite a ways from where I started-38.6 pounds lost so far, and now I only weigh twice what I want to, lol. So only a mere 140 pounds to go-geez that is a scary number to put into type, but it is a reality. Exercising more is what is going to help, I have the eating thing down to a science.

Today is 5 weeks into my new life-have not been doing all the exercise I need, but will get back on track. I have lost 34 1/2 pounds, so about 1/5th of the total weight I need to lose-not bad for 5 weeks! I am doing quite well about not thinking about food 24/7 and I am not usually over hungry-I feel in very good control for now.

Hi and good luck to you with your upcoming surgery. I am in St. Joseph, Mo. and will be getting banded in late March in Mexico, self pay. I decided it was foolish to wait around for the surgery and so started my new lifetime way of eating on January 8th and am quite proud to report that as of today i have lost 33 pounds. Where I will need the help is in keeping it off. This forum is a great place to come to, answers many questions and keeps the spirit up, looking at all the success stories. Thanks.

Have you found out anything about Dr. Alvarez? I am scheduled to have the band done by him in late March. I am also self-pay, and am wondering about some of the things I have been reading online about his staff quoting different prices. Good luck with your band. Marcie

Today marks one month down and 31 pounds lost. I am so proud of myself and am feeling even more motivated to keep going. I have 6 and 1/2 weeks to go before surgery, so my goal of losing 50 pounds is looking like a piece of cake at this point. Have decided not to change my goal, just look at every extra pound as a bonus. Got the mess with the new doctor and different hospital all straightened out, so everything is going great.

Wow, today marks 3 weeks that I have been making wise choices in my eating habits-and I am now down 24 pounds! Almost halfway to my before surgery goal of losing 50 pounds. Very exciting and I am now trying to bike 10 miles a day.
