Richmond California Kaiser? anyone
SweetPotato replied to BairwithMe's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
It feels like a mellow recovery. I've always been a fan of tight clothes, but I like what the loose ones mean:) I didn't expect my skinny jeans to be baggy so fast... -
Richmond California Kaiser? anyone
SweetPotato replied to BairwithMe's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
I'm feeling pretty normal, unless I'm eating something. Not too tired, which is surprising to me. I was even able to run my usual 2 hour support group without feeling like I needed a break. I commute to SF for work and my stomach hurts a little when I get out of the car... That's the worst of it right now. I'm also struggling a little to make myself eat and I'm not up to 48 oz of water yet, but Im close:). Can't wait to weigh myself, cuz these close are getting loose! Everyone seems to rave about Dr Baggs. -

A friends WLS post op diet plan is causing a great bit of a WHOA! for me!
SweetPotato replied to Stevehud's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
My plan is 2 days liquids, 2 weeks modified liquids (sugar free pudding, low fat yogurt, blended and strained soups, etc), then two months soft foods (tuna salad, scrambled eggs, soft veggies, etc) then regular stuff. And never any protein drinks or bars. Surgeons have different plans... -
What about packets of tuna or salmon in foil? They don't require refrigeration and are super portable.

Kaiser - Pre-op weight loss
SweetPotato replied to morgankw's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
The orientation will include the nutrition class. Then you will get appointments to meet with the surgeon and psychologist ( separately). When you meet goal weight ( surgeon will tell you what that is), you will get to make your appointment with the case manager. During that meeting, you will schedule surgery and she will sign you up for the final two classes and physical ( all same day). She will give u instructions for blood work, ECG and any other labs/tests they want you to have based on your medical history. -

The universe is against me
SweetPotato replied to mystiq's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
It sounds like what you really need is some support. You've gone through a lot recently, not including the surgery. My suggestion would be to see a therapist. Primary care physicians are generally not very well educated in psychopharmacological interventions, whereas a psychologist generally is (though not as much as a psychiatrist). They would be able to provide you with therapy, as well as help you to think about whether meds would be in your best interest and which would be best suited to your symptoms. -
Can someone on Synthroid or Levothyroxine show me your pill schedule?
SweetPotato replied to jobillandjosh's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
taking my levothyroxine at 6 am with ice Water, then start everything else a few hours later. I take chewy Vitamins, Bariatric Advantage chewy bite 500mg calcium and Iron, Centrum adult chewable Multivitamins and a sublingual b-12. Taking pill form of b-1 and D3 in about a month. -
I did it! So excited to be a newbie here on this board!

i reeeeeeeeaaallly like making a bag of good earth caffeine free sweet and spicy tea, steeped in about a 1/2 cup of boiling Water, and pouring it in my water bottle full of ice. Doesn't need sweetener and tastes like the iced tea version of big red gum. amazing!

To tell or not to tell...
SweetPotato replied to DaisyAmy's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I have told my father and sister because they are my closest family and I knew that I would need their support through this process. I also told my three best girlfriends for the same reason, added to this, I am going to be the bridesmaid in one of their weddings in August and figured that my changing body is something that she should know about because it affects her special day. I haven't told anyone else, though I did tell some people that I was having a medical procedure, as I am a doctorate student and therapist and my dropping out of life for recovery affects my clients and my school attendance. With regard to telling others, I feel like this is a super personal decision. I work primarily with clients who have multiple medical diagnoses, including HIV and HCV, in addition to severe psychopathology and/or substance use disorders or recovery from such. I also work with clients who seek gender confirming surgery. When I was thinking about whether I wanted to tell people about my surgery, I thought about my clients and the discussions that we have had about their identities and diagnoses. I would advocate for them to make disclosures that they feel comfortable with to people who can be supportive, which is what I decided to do for myself. Even before surgery, I lost 49 lbs and it was getting noticeable. When people asked about it, i told them what I was comfortable with: I am following my nutritionist's eating plan and going to the gym 5 times a week. And only to people who I felt comfortable discussing my body with. To others I just said, "I've made some changes." -
i just had surgery at kaiser richmond. We did a pre op diet of 3oz Protein with veggies and a carb (1/2 cup potato/ sweet potato/squash or slice toast whole grain bread less 80 cals) for lunch and dinner, or a fruit instead of veggies at Breakfast. Add to that 64 oz of Water, stop drinking 10 minutes before eating and don't drink until an hour after eating. Chew every bite 30 times. No caffeine, alcohol, carbonated drinks, no Protein Drinks or drinks with more than 20 cals/ cup, no straws, no gum, no Pasta, rice, fried foods, etc. It was hard at first, but i lost hella weight and after a couple of weeks started having a better connection with my hunger and more energy.

Decide not to have surgery?
SweetPotato replied to MarciaN's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
sounds like you made a decision that makes sense for you and that's the most important thing:) I have had a similar experience to many posters... even now, I have lost 45#s pre-surgery, but am having the sleeve tomorrow. I know that I've lost before but can't keep it off...this is just another tool to help me to do that. -
