i have PCOS, too. Have nexplanon implant and it's the best!!! PCOS patients do best with hormone based birth control, and this is my favorite type... have tried variations of the pill, provera 10 day pills, and IUD. This is best by far for me.

How many days off work ?
SweetPotato replied to Amayor85's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
im a therapist and doctorate student. Was at work a week after surgery. I walk a lot, work in a clinic and have to get clients from lobby downstairs and take to rooms, in addition to going to get files/paperwork, etc. I was fine. Just walked a little slower than usual. -
I was forced into the gastric sleeve.

sounds like regret and externalizing of blame... hope they get the help and support they need and can learn to work their sleeve. -

What can I do with...cottage cheese?
SweetPotato replied to Inner Surfer Girl's topic in Regular foods (stage 4)
My favorite thing is to add a drop of vanilla, 1/2 a Splenda and some diced strawberries or some blueberries. Tastes like cheesecake if you close ur eyes:) -
I totally get that. Sometimes we are doing something incorrectly, but don't notice it AND sometimes there is something physically wrong. It would be nice if it didn't automatically jump to us not following directions, but I also feel like there are soooooo many people out there that don't, either because they didn't understand the rules, misunderstood them, forgot, or didn't care for them, that it's hard for medical providers not to go there first. I am not experiencing that feeling unless I don't chew my 30 times, but my experience isn't the only one. It sounds like you aren't alone in this and, even if you were, it causes you discomfort and should be addressed. I hope you get to talk about it at your follow up and together your surgeon and you can figure out what is causing this.

i did mine late in the afternoon and was discharged early the next morning (a little before 9am). Surgeon did the leak test as part of the surgery. I could have gone home same day, but they want to make sure patients can walk and get fluids down before they go home, so they keep everyone overnight.

sometimes i think I'm chewing thoroughly, but when i count, I'm not getting to the recommended 30 times. when I'm more careful about doing it, i find that I'm less likely to get that feeling. have you been counting?

What are you guys eating?
SweetPotato replied to princesswarrior's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
i had an egg scrambled with tuna for breakfast, lunch was some diced baked chicken and 2 small boiled brussels sprouts (i ate one), dinner will be salmon and, if i have room, a little bit of zucchini. i usually don't have room for the veg, but i always give it a try:) i have a little container with an oz of low fat cheese with me in case i get too hungry before dinner, but i doubt ill need it. i usually do some variation of this menu... eggs for breakfast, some kind of meat and a tiny big of veg for dinner and lunch, pack some low fat cheese or nuts/seeds (loooooooove sprouted raw pumpkin seeds) for a snack since my days are super long. -
I'm in Fairfield... Work/school in Berkeley and SF.

Food and liquids together
SweetPotato replied to denisa's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I didn't say anything of the sort. I simply said that we should follow our surgeon's post opinstructions and that there are reasons for such. If you feel that there has been a misdiagnosis, by all means, get a 2nd opinion. If you don't trust your surgeon, you should get a different one. And please don't turn my comment into a slippery slope argument. -
Food and liquids together
SweetPotato replied to denisa's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
My comment is for those who have been told to not eat and drink at the same time (the vast majority of Sleevers) who have decided not to follow their post op instructions. We all should follow our surgeon's instructions whether or not we agree with them. I don't drink Protein shakes because my surgeon and NUT consider them to be soft calories and have instructed me to get my protein from food, but I don't tell people who were instructed to drink them that there is no reason for them to do so. I can't say that there is no reason (scientific or otherwise) for an instruction simply because it isn't one that my program follows. There is a reason for each and every decision that our surgeons make. -
i like to cook a great big hunk of salmon with fresh dill, garlic and some cooking spray for about 13 minutes in a 425* oven. It comes out so most and delicious! Sometimes, if I'm feeling fancy, I'l coat it in a mixture of dijon, black pepper, garlic, a tiny bit of lemon juice, and a pinch of salt and then sprinkle some parsley on top.

Food and liquids together
SweetPotato replied to denisa's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Yes, we keep our pyloric valve which closes when we eat the dense protein and keeps it in our sleeve to promote satiety... However, it doesn't fully close and our food drips down into the duodenum/small intestine. When we drink while eating, the liquid helps it to drip/drain faster because it lessens the density of the food, which means that we don't keep it in our sleeve as long. The pylorus is the reason why we also need to sip when we start drinking... We sip, wait for it to open and then sip some more. It opens more quickly for liquids AND because it's always slightly open (even when closed) they pass through pretty quickly. Even if this opening and closing function wasn't true of the pylorus, why wouldn't you follow your surgeon's instructions? -
I wear a Fitbit and do lots of walking throughout the day. Also, at least 4 days at the gym/week an hour a time. Alternate days of swimming/water jogging with weights and weights/treadmill. I started back again at week 6. Am 2 months and 2 days out. Before surgery, I was doing 6 days/week... Hoping to get back to that:)

Feedback for how you feel day 1-2 immediately after sleeve surgery
SweetPotato replied to nysweetest1's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
I was super nauseous right when I woke up, but that went away after less than an hour. I was up and walking briskly and unassisted that evening and was shopping with my family 2 days later. A little tired and bending over wasn't fun, but pretty ok. -
I lost 93 pounds in 4 months but I dont feel much different.
SweetPotato replied to leighannnn1791's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I started at 401.5 and now am at 314... Almost no one has said anything about my weight loss. I don't see it much other than in the way my clothes fit... I've always been a skinny jeans and fitted tops kinda girl and I've noticed my clothes aren't hugging me as tightly as I like. Finally went shopping and realized I went down 3 sizes for the same fit. I try to not focus on the way I look and, instead, on the way I feel. I don't get as winded when I climb stairs and exercise, my back isn't hurting like it used to, I have more energy, etc. the rest will come. -

Horrible lesson learned!
SweetPotato replied to retzlpa's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
I was told 10 before and an hour after for life. Specifically so the food doesn't move too quickly through my sleeve and cause me to get hungry too quickly afterwards.
