Vitamins...yuck
Yaberhoo replied to Unicorn Believer's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I only used chewables until I was 6 weeks post op. I found a bariatric Vitamin in a capsule form that I've begun to take. -
How long did you sleep on your back?
Yaberhoo replied to SEVENTYSIXGIRL's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I am a stomach sleeper. I slept on my back while in the hospital and when I got home, I slept in a recliner for several days. About a week after surgery I moved to my bed, but elevated my upper body with pillows. I also put pillows under each arm to simulate laying in the recliner. About a week later I was back on my tummy. -
Insurance will not cover
Yaberhoo replied to feelfatnomore's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
My insurance doesn't cover bariatric procedures at all. There are some surgeons that will do it at a reduced cost if paid in cash. However, I decided to go to Mexico. I found a reputable company with an excellent surgeon. It was far, far less to have it done there and I had wonderful care. -

The struggle is real today
Yaberhoo replied to ttgill's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
You find them in the deli area next to the fancy cheese. They are small one ounce rounds of cheese that are individually encased in wax. -

Mini Baby Bel cheese saved me. I would eat one or two a day when the hunger was bad. Hard boiled eggs also do wonders for a sweet tooth. -

How Is This Possible?
Yaberhoo replied to bdfletch's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
My doctor's scale is 7lbs higher than mine at home. I loudly announced that MY scale is the official scale and it is obvious that my clothes weigh 5lbs. Because we all know that the only proper way to weigh is first thing in the morning, after the morning potty, and in your birthday suit. Dr. agreed. -

Sudden Food Intolerance
Yaberhoo replied to CSchulden's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I agree that you may be simply eating too fast and your body isn't given time to give you that "full" signal. Before surgery I never ever felt full unless I was overstuffed (like at Thanksgiving). I made it a point to listen very very carefully to my body when I eat. I discovered I have developed a tic. When I am full, I hiccup/burp once. If I do it twice, I know that I've over done it and will be begging forgiveness from my tummy overlord soon. I call it my "full" button. The instant it happens, I now push my plate away so I am not tempted to nibble one more bite. Maybe you have one? Perhaps your nose runs, you burp, you get a certain sound in your tummy, some people sneeze... -

Does it ever get better?
Yaberhoo replied to crazyplantlady's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Slow it down and accept that you have a new tummy overlord. All hail the tummy overlord. Although you may be permitted to have meat at this point, your stomach appears to disagree. Put it on the back burner for a few more weeks and try again. I know some people who cannot eat chicken months out. I could eat it at 6 weeks. Also, meats should have some sort of sauce on them to help them go down. Plain meats tend to upset the healing tummy. It DOES get better. I was desperate for meat one day and tried beef Jerky at 8 weeks. I just knew that it was going to be too rough on my tummy. Runt surprised me. I swear she sighed and relaxed when I tried my first bite. Oh, name your tummy. It really helps, especially when you two are arguing like now. -

Unsupportive family
Yaberhoo replied to ralambert511's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
@@lalajade, no you cannot win in that situation. If he wasn't supportive of the surgery, it would have been additionally stressful to have him with you at the hospital. You need support at that time, not criticism. Since he wasn't supportive before surgery, it is reasonable that he wouldn't be supportive while you were in the hospital. Now that you are post op, I hope that you both are able to move past this hiccup. However, his lack of support could be more than fear for you and may be a reflection of his insecurity in this relationship and your potential weight loss. Hope for the best and don't hide your head in the sand if it isn't. -
Self pay and could cry over the amount, couple of questions
Yaberhoo replied to mmorris4's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I wouldn't rule out Mexico! I had my surgery there, paid $4600 all inclusive except travel. For those who have a hiatal hernia, doctor will repair it for an additional $350 or so. I'm am so happy I chose Mexico! -
I don't care if the gentleman in question has children. At my age, it should be expected and I love kids. I simply haven't been as fortunate as many others to have that opportunity. The gentlemen in question on Valentines day is divorced with twin 11 year old girls. I am trying to not let it get me down, and really after that first night it hasn't bothered me - it's almost funny. I don't have much experience with dates at all - less than a handful my entire life. My former weight had much to do with that and certainly caused some stout self-esteem issues. This is all stuff that people learn as teens, but I did not. I acknowledge my issues and am trying to change them. I don't think dating multiple people at once is a possibility right now as I can barely get one date with one gentleman LOL! I have you lovely people here, my family, and a few friends who are ready to strap on their boots for some butt kicking and that just makes me grin. Onward to bigger and better.

It works well in cream or milk based soups like clam chowder or cream of chicken.

Agreed, scales fluctuate terribly. I was at the doctor last week. My scale is my "official scale" and showed 80 lb loss. I went to my appointment and her scale showed 7 lbs higher. I joked with the nurse that clearly my clothes weigh 5lbs and the only proper way to weigh is butt nekkid and after going to the bathroom. My doctor walked up behind me, hearing my comment, and said "and before you eat!" Agreed, scales fluctuate terribly. I was at the doctor last week. I did preop for 3 weeks before surgery. High Protein, low carb, low calorie, low fat. Basically a Protein shake for Breakfast and lunch, and a salad and 6 oz of chicken breast or fish for dinner. I lost 21 lbs during that period of time. It sucks, it's limiting, but it may get you to where the insurance company wants you to be. You have time.
