°Being Moody, is it just me°

Your fat cells store hormones so when you burn the fat those hormones flood your system and make you as hormonal as a 13 year old. It will pass and it is very normal. Hey it's proof you are burning fat!
  3. I'm from WA and my insurance won't cover any bariatric procedure. I self paid in Mexico and had surgery on 10/22/15. I am down 50lbs today!
  4. Hi. I had surgery in Tijuana on Oct 22nd and had a great time. I can answer your questions in regards to the company I went through. 1. Before surgery you are introduced to your follow up care nurse. She emails an introduction as well as the what to expect information so you are armed with it before surgery. She also emails my weekly food limitations as I move through the recovery. I had a slight fever 100.2 a week after surgery. I emailed her and she checked up with me four or five times a day until the fever broke. Low grade fever is very common after major surgery. The company has a very active facebook page wherein everyone from the management, nurses, surgeons, drivers, EVERYONE, is on it. That was the main reason why I chose them. I got to speak with dozens of current and former patients, everyone was constantly posting pictures of the hospital, staff, rooms, etc. Any questions are answered within minutes either on Facebook or emailing the nurse. 2. The hospital was very clean. The staff was caring and professional. They were on the ball with medications and immediately at my bedside if I needed them. I took a friend with me (companions stay with you in the hospital room and in the hotel during recovery days). She was very impressed with the staff. I never felt worried due to professionalism or hygiene. 3. I would recommend it to my closest family. The stay is six days, 5 nights. My friend was with me every moment except while I was in surgery and recovery. They had drivers that would take us anywhere we wanted to go. The hotel was beautiful and comfortable with an on call nurse on hand during the day to do bandage swaps, check blood pressure. The first night is at the hotel after preop blood tests and check in. The next morning you are picked up from the hotel and taken to the hospital for surgery. You spend surgery night and the next night in the hospital. Day 4 you are released and taken back to the hotel. We were taken shopping by the drivers for both fun stuff and to the pharmacy for anything you wanted (Prilosec was really cheap down there), homemade ice cream at a local ice cream shop, and broth at a favorite taco stand. One more full day and night of recovery at the hotel. The sixth day the drivers drove us back to San Diego to the airport. Easy peasy. I had no bad experiences in Tijuana. Everyone was very attentive and caring. I would absolutely recommend them. They also have a plastic surgeon and dentist with the company for those who want other procedures done. I know a few who had dental work on the first day before surgery, others had botox, etc. I plan to go back when I need to lose some of my excess skin. I went to A Lighter Me.
  5. The first week after surgery I was restricted to Clear Liquids only. They weren't concerned about me getting much Protein during that week. I can't stand Protein shakes so I relied heavily on GENEPRO mixed into my foods.

    I am having potty problems

@, that's because you are eating more Protein and a lot more Fluid. Fluid in, fluid out. After surgery, I had diarrhea until I moved on to pureed foods.

    Burping/belching post-op?

Gas happens. It either comes out one end of the other. You will sound like a small frog for a while. All perfectly natural. Just wait until you develop your "I'm full" trigger. I do a single hiccup that sounds somewhere between a hiccup and a burp.

    I am PISSED!

Breathe and find the post called "Embrace the stall." EVERYONE stalls somewhere around three weeks or so. I stalled at 4 1/2 weeks. Hide the scale, take your measurements instead, focus on your eating. You aren't eating enough Protein and that is vital. There's no way that you can gain 3 lbs of fat with what you posted. What you gained is Water weight as your body freaks out from the sudden loss. It's all part of the process.

    Burping/belching post-op?

I tend to burp when I drink or eat too quickly. You are still getting rid of the gas as well. I would call this normal. Are you drinking with a straw? This can introduce gas into your stomach and should be avoided. If you have Gas X strips, take them.

    Emotions after VSG

It is perfectly normal. Your fat cells store hormones as well. When you burn the fat, the hormones flood your system and make you as emotional as a 13 year old. Ah the joys of weight loss! At least you have proof you are burning fat!

    Mexico anyone?

Me too! I'm not on the wet side of the state, but I can't take the heat. My surgeon was Dr. Elias Ortiz at A Lighter Me in Tijuana.

    Mexico anyone?

I went shopping but I tired out really fast. It was about 90 degrees that day and far to warm for me. I also was in no mood to deal with the aggressive vendors. Dios Mio! I went to the bus early and waited for the others to come back. Our driver gave me a Gatorade while I waited and I enjoyed the scenery.

    This Hair Loss is Horrific

Once you stop using rogain the hair falls out. I spoke to a friend who owns a beauty school.

    This Hair Loss is Horrific

Also up your protein. I am for 90 to 100g a day. Maybe it will help.

    This Hair Loss is Horrific

It happens. There is nothing to prevent it. The drastic changes in your body and diet threw your body into panic mode. It reacts as if the boat is sinking and throwing worthless stuff over the side will help the boat stay afloat. The biotin will help your hair regrow. There is no set timeframe for how long it lasts.

    Emotions

The sleep thing? Me too. And if I sleep I have nightmares. Totally normal. Your body is freaking out still.

    Emotions

Ok breathe. Welcome to hormone fluctuations due to weight loss. This is all normal. Hide your scale and stop comparing your weight loss to everyone elses. The fact that you are emotional proves you are burning fat which stores hormones. You are doing fine. Just keep to the program and focus on water and protein. Period.
  19. This was my second surgery, but I had a small case of nerves on surgery day. Seriously though. One second you are talking to the anesthesiologist and the next second you wake up in your room all done. Lickety split. The pre op nerves are the hardest part. I told myself it was time for the big girl panties and get shit done.

    I'm Sad

My insurance wouldn't pay (and I weighed over 400lbs!). I did self pay in Mexico for $4200. total except travel. I did my research and found a wonderful, reputable company. My doctor is not only certified in Mexico, but also certified on the American Board of Surgeons! That cost would probably be similar to any copay you have to pay in the US.

    Week 2-3 Stall!?!

It's all part of the process! Embrace the stall. You don't have another choice. They scale will start moving again, I promise. For goodness sakes, HIDE THE SCALE. Also, stop comparing your weight loss to others. Everyone is different. People like me who have 250 TO LOSE will lose weight initially faster that most people with 80 pounds to lose. What everyone needs to realize is that as you get closer to goal, your loss will slow down. Your body will be fighting to keep the extra weight on. Therefore, if you don't have massive amounts to lose when you start, the weight loss will probably seem slower.

    Very discourged

Babbs' advise is excellent. If you make your Protein and Water goals, you will increase your calories as well. You are still stuck with liquids so getting the calories up is a challenge unless you are drinking Protein shakes or cream Soups. Also you are so soon after surgery and your body is in shock. They tend to pump you full of fluids while in the hospital so I bet you drop some weight fast in the coming days. All of that water weight.
  23. If the Vitamins are upsetting your stomach, check and see if they have Iron in them. Iron in the Vitamin can often upset our new tummies. The one and only time I have been sick since surgery was 30 seconds after I tried a new bariatric vitamin with Iron. I left a trail of flame behind me when I ran to the bathroom. I switched to a non Iron and things have been fine.
  24. Thanksgiving dinner last week was my first thanksgiving since being sleeved. I watched my family pile their plates high while I took a tablespoon and a half of stuffing with gravy, one bite of mashed potatoes and about 2 ounces of turkey. Naturally, two hours later I was hungry and ate another two or three ounces of turkey. Another two hours, I was reaching for the turkey again. My sister walks in and finds me digging into the turkey and says "Leave some so we can have sandwiches tomorrow!" I reacted as I would have before surgery and wondered if I took to much. Then I realized how little I had. I told her that she ate more turkey at one sitting than I had all day and I wasn't making a dent in her 15 lb bird. I reminded her that I said no to my delicious homemade cornbread, the homemade pies, and all the other treats they had. I chose to make a good decision. She agreed. The next day I went to her house on my lunch break. I got my 2 ounces of turkey and a bite of stuffing. I showed her the plate and said, "I'm eating you out of house and home!" She was offended and became defensive saying "I only made one comment." I'm still hurt. She made me feel bad and embarrassed.
  25. Gas X STRIPS, at least 3 boxes. You cannot buy the strips in Mexico so make sure to bring plenty. I went to Mexico last month for my surgery and went through at least 2 boxes. Extension cord so you can plug in your electronics as the plug ins may not be in good locations (you probably don't need an adapter depending on where you go). Hibclens and gold Dial soap for showering and keeping the incisions clean. Extra tape and gauze. Chapstick is a good idea, Loose clothing is a must. The days I stayed in the hospital I just kept the gown on, but you will need pajama pants and loose shirts. EXTRA UNDERWEAR! I can't stress this enough. Never trust a fart. Those were the things I used the most.
