    I have a surgery date!

Mmmm I had chinese last night. I purchased the sampler from unjury. I've only had the chocolate supreme so far and it was pretty good! I typically don't like Protein shakes so I was excited.

    I have a surgery date!

I just got scheduled for October 22nd! They had an opening on Oct 3 that I really wanted, but my friend is going with me as my companion and wasn't available. I start the preop diet in 3 weeks. Until then, I am having a food Farewell Tour and enjoying some favorites for the last time for a long long time. I am also buying some samples of different Protein shakes to see which ones I like. Good luck!

    Nervous to complete application

Whoa, deep breath. Sending in the paperwork is scary. I just sent mine yesterday. This is a scary decision, I won't argue that, but you cannot hide behind your fears. You have your insurance approval (that's huge!), your daughter will be just fine and will love being your nurse, take the time off from work. Excess skin? Pfftt. There may be some, but so what? If it bothers you that much, open a savings account and start saving pennies for skin removal surgery in the long term future. Spanx, baby! Do this for you. Do this for your daughter. Just because the paperwork is submitted doesn't mean you can't back out if you really have to, but fear alone can't be the reason to back out. Every excuse you listed is from fear. Focus on the "I will be able to do...". I will be able to shop for clothing in any store I want. I will be able to lower or get rid of my medications. I will be able to bounce my grandchildren on my knee because my big ol' belly isn't in the way any longer. I will be able to fly coach and not worry if the airline will make me pay for a second seat. I will be able to ride any ride I want to at a theme park. I will be able to scratch my own back without the assistance of a friend or a nearby wall. I will be able to save money for skin surgery because my food bill has gone WAY down. I will be able to do ALL those things I've never been able to do because of my weight. Sweetie, my surgery is scheduled for Oct 22nd and I'm scared too. But I am WAY more excited about the "I will be able to do".
  4. It's harder for you since you have so much of your life weaved into your extended family's lives - most people don't work in a family business. It isn't fair to you that they are trying to deny you the time off to do this because you had an injury LAST year. I think that the only way to get them in the corner is to do the surgery and wait for them to see your progress as you lose weight. GET THE SURGERY. Remind yourself that you are doing this for you and your kids. It doesn't matter what the family thinks. You have proven that you can make arrangements to make it work without the family approving. They love you and they are scared at the misconceptions spinning around so they plug their ears and refuse to hear what you have to say. Perhaps it would be beneficial for one or two of them to speak with your surgeon. Choose someone that you feel could be swayed and become your mouthpiece to the rest of the family. For what it's worth, my mom was scared when I told her I was considering surgery two months ago. Since then, I have done lots of research to answer her questions and concerns. I explained that I joined this group to get information from actual patients, I have joined the facebook group for the surgery center and have talked to my surgeon, a few nurses, and dozens of current patients for their opinions on everything. I have not told my sisters as they tend to be judgmental and I am not sure they will be supportive. Mom is now as excited as I am about this surgery. Your family loves you. They will come around eventually, but don't let them stop you from living your life and ensuring you have longer to live.
  5. I just got my surgery date yesterday. Come on October 22nd! I start my preop diet in 3 weeks. Let the Farewell food Tour begin! Ruby, every surgeon seems to have a slightly different preop diet. Mine is high protein/low carb and clear liquid only 3 days before surgery. I am so excited I can't sleep.

    Vitamins making me nauseated

I have read that sometimes the Iron in the Vitamin is what can trigger the nausea. Perhaps you can try an iron free vitamin for the time being?
  7. I don't see how it can't help. I have low back problems and visit a chiropractor a few times a month. My low back issues are a combo of my weight making my spinal curvature hyperlordosis as well as my sacro/illiac joint being out of alignment, which is probably unrelated as much to my weight.
  8. @ Babbs, it is fundamentally accepted that those of us from Idaho are crazy. (I live right on the WA/ID border- live in WA, work 5 minutes away in ID so I count as one of those crazies).

    How to Prepare for VSG

I'm in the same place as you. I'm waiting for the sale of my house, which will allow me to pay for my surgery since insurance won't cover it. I have started working on my food demons. I heavily drink Diet Coke and have started slowly reducing the amount I drink (the headaches!). I have ordered a sampler packs to start figuring out which brands and flavors of Protein powders I can stomach (I hate protein powders but my first unjury chocolate splendor was pretty good). I've spent a lot of time reading here and researching everything I can. I've joined a support thread on Facebook for with the surgery center I have chosen. I've started planning post operative meals after I get past the soft food phase. I'm looking into which are the best supplements brands to buy for post surgery and started taking Multivitamins and supplements now. There really is lots to do! Good luck!

    Unsupportive family

I am still saving for surgery. I told my mom, my boss, and two friends. One friend isn't supportive because she knows someone who died having WLS surgery in the states and is terrified that she will lose me. She lives out of state so I told her what she wanted to hear that I changed my mind. My sisters aren't to be told because they are critical of me to begin with. I don't trust that they would be supportive of the surgery, let alone the day to day. I can see them critiquing every single thing I put in my mouth, so I swore my mom to secrecy. My mom is very concerned but acknowledges that I'm 37 years old, knows the lifelong struggle I've had, and I have done my research. My other friend is my champion. She is as excited as I am and will be travelling with me for my surgery. If your family is not supportive then look to your non-biological family for support. There are friends who love you and will support you in your decision. When your family asks about your obvious weight loss, tell them you are dieting and leave it at that. Good luck! You have friends here as well who know exactly what you are going through.

    Protein Drinks

While I save up for my surgery I decided to start trying Protein shakes so I can figure out what I like and can prepare. Typically I HATE Protein Shakes. I just bought the unjury sampler pack. They send two individual packets of each flavor to try. I cracked open my first one, chocolate Splendor, and it was great! I was so pleasantly surprised. I have great hope for the other 4 flavors.

    Donate or Save Clothes

Get rid of them! If you do start to gain, you will feel it in the tightening of your current clothes. That will kick you back on track. It's too easy to simply reach in your closet and grab a bigger pair of pants.
