I never had to do a liquid diet before being banded, my Dr. Asked if I could try and lose 5 lbs before , and I did. I think the idea of "dieting " before surgey is to shrink your liver to make installing the band easier. Check with your Dr. and good luck on being banded ! Best decision ever !

Seems like every Dr does this differently. Some people have said they were on a liquid pre-op for 4 or more weeks. other do a few days and othesr yet no pre-op diet. Also seems to vary with your initial weight and the type of surgery you are having. Some have had pre-op diets that are not all liquid. Give the Drs office a call and ask what your Dr recommends.
