Banded in 2001. Questions about converting to Sleeve. Scared.
joking188 replied to VDLT's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
I am so thankful for Dr. Ryan Heider he has been so helpful with my revision and never questioned me when I told him my issues. Doctors who don't listen to the patients are dangerous. His entire staff have had weight loss surgery, which really is awesome they can answer most questions I have about what is normal and what might be a problem. When I went to him this last time was because of pain on my left side. Nothing showed on contrast and he took all the fluid out of my band and we tried for two weeks still had restriction so he said lets see what the insurance says. Well I have awesome insurance they allowed for removal of band and the sleeve all in the same surgery. I was worried but then realized he is one of the best in the country doing this and calmed down. I am three weeks out and yesterday had a piece of toast with peanut butter and nothing got stuck what an awesome feeling. I have lost 35 pounds as if yesterday. Best decision I could have made. -
Revision in Monday!
joking188 replied to adnlyn's topic in Revision Weight Loss Surgery Forums (NEW!)
I was back at work one week after surgery, because I don't do a job that required any strenuous work. I worked short days first two days back. I am back to normal completely and waiting for doc to give me permission to go back to my weightlifting soon. I had a harder time with band then with my revision ! -
Band to Sleeve Revision Leaks?
joking188 replied to gigi14's topic in Revision Weight Loss Surgery Forums (NEW!)
I had my revision on August 6th and my surgeon did a drain that way if a leak occurred I would know right away. They should do a contrast before you drink anything. My only regret is that I waited this long for my revision. As of yesterday I am down 35 pounds. So much easier than lap band was for me. You will do great because we have the eat slow and chew our food slowly down pat! Good luck! -
Considering revision to Gastric Sleeve -- should I?
joking188 replied to Meley24's topic in Revision Weight Loss Surgery Forums (NEW!)
I did the revision 2 weeks ago and I can say at this point no regrets except I did not do this surgery first. We are successful because the band teaches you to eat very slow so that is half the battle and the feeling when it is stuck is worse than any full feeling . But you know you are full and stop because we did the hole get sick because something stuck not anything I would do now because I can feel stomach acid again. The is new for me after 5 years to have to take Pepcid everyday for the acid I am hoping this will get better in time! Good luck making your decision mine was a must because of issues with my band and was experiencing type 2 diabetes again not an option since my husband past last year my kids need at least one parent here and healthy. My vote would be if you have a great surgeon do it! -

Just posing a question, not looking for an argument

I did the band 5 years ago and had nothing but trouble from the band. I have an Aunt and friend who have the band and love it. I recently have removed and I am a sleever. Best decision of my life. The diet right now is a little strict considering I lift in the gym and have much muscle. Trying to maintain till I can go back hard again. But worth the process for the fact no more restriction on my esophagus. -
I am down an average of 8 pounds a week right now. Started Pre op diet at 288 and when I weighed in 6 days post op I was 263. Prior to doing surgery I had been training for over a year and was not losing anything so for me I am thrilled not really concerned what the doctor would like I am more about my clothes getting bigger and feeling healthier. The weight will take care of itself with the excercise

August Sleevers Check In
joking188 replied to Sweet Pea STL Sleever's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I had mine August 6th and first time I have experienced nausea . Took a Pepcid and just hoping that helps this. Also have a little cough that won't go away. Last thing I need is a summer cold. -
Just sleeved Wednesday 07/29
joking188 replied to dlmacarthur's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
Thanks I know not worth the risk just have been on the optifast already 3 weeks and the taste is killing me. But tomorrow he has approved smooth yogurt. The hunger pains would come in my sleep so was not sure. I know during the day just my head saying it should want more not me physically needing more . I am trying to think about what kind of yogurt I want tomorrow. Big decisions.....for those who say this is the easy way I ask them to just try the pre op diet then get back to me. Nothing about this has been easy!!! -
Just sleeved Wednesday 07/29

Hey everyone I had the lapband removed and had the gastric sleeve done on August 6th. I am really feeling pretty good overall . My one thing is I am not sure if I am having gas pain or a hunger pain at this point in my recovery? I asked surgeon he said no but that is what it feels like. I have been on liquids for 3 weeks now and really want food, like a yogurt has anyone cheated and what was the consequence of doing that? The band never really worked for me so really hope this is my answer.
