RNY journey for gastroparesis in Minnesota
Teejay1958 replied to CindyI114's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
I'm sorry you've been in pain. I am 6 weeks post surgery, and I had very little pain (except trying to get out of bed in the morning)! I too, had gastroparesis before surgery, but now I feel great. I hope that you have the same results! Good luck and keep us posted. -
Surgery was sept 21 2015 one year out
Teejay1958 replied to kayluc16's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I'm so sorry you feel this way. I am 6 weeks out from surgery and my fear was that I would get too thin. I had surgery not only to lose weight, but to resolve my diabetes and another co-morbidity. Has your Dr. said anything about your issue? -
Help I went in for my initial consultation and wanted the Gastric Sleeve the doctor suggested the Duodenal switch surgery
Teejay1958 replied to BigJohn58's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
The same thing happened to me. I thought I wanted the sleeve; I'm 5'2" and was just over the necessary BMI to be approved for WLS. However, I had severe GERD, and also diabetes and sleep apnea. I was concerned I would lose too much weight with Gastric Bypass Duodenal switch. My surgeon told me that the sleeve may not resolve my diabetes and that it would make the GERD worse. So GPS it is! I have to say I'm very happy to have decided on the bypass. I'm down 30 pounds since surgery five weeks ago. My weight loss is slowing (which I'm okay with), and my diabetes is resolved as is my high blood pressure and sleep apnea. I'd say, go with your surgeon's recommendation. He's done many of these surgeries and seen the outcomes firsthand. But, if you are really uncomfortable, then attempt to get a second opinion. Take care and I hope everything goes well for you. -
Gastric Bypass Surgery was September 26, 2016
Teejay1958 posted a topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
I had surgery on September 26, 2016. I was released from the hospital the next day and I'm doing great! My abdomen is a little sore, but otherwise, no issues at all. I weight 185 pounds when I went into the hospital; today I am 172.4! My blood sugar is normal, and I am off meds. Also, my blood pressure is normal and I am off all but one bp medication; and I'm only taking half of that! No one thought I should have WLS. My husband was against it, but was supportive anyway. None of my friends thought I was heavy enough to have the surgery. But I feel it was worth it because it I feel so good and I'm already off diabetic medications and most of my other meds. So glad I did this! -
I didn't choose bypass specifically. For my issues, my surgeon thought that RNY would be better for me; and the more I read, the more I believe so too. I will let you know if I have issues and how everything goes. But yes, as of now, I am happy with my decision.

Congratulations! Glad everything is going well for you. My surgery date is September 12 and I'm watching these posts to see how everyone is doing. Take care, stay hydrated, and best of luck to you!

September Surgery...Lets do this
Teejay1958 replied to etorres's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I'm just a few days ahead of you. My doctors making me do the liquid diet for 3 weeks (ughhh) so I'll start on the 18th Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App I started my liquid diet Monday, August 29, 2016. My surgery day is September 12. The diet is really hard but I have to push through it. I just don't like the protein shakes (and I've tried many of them). I'm sticking with Premier because they seem to be the best nutritionally, plus I can ALMOST stand the taste! Good luck to everyone and we'll all meet back here with wonderful results. -
