    Any 8/24 sleevers?

So excited! Had my final surgeon visit yesterday. All looks good and ready to go. Don't forget to bring your pillow to hold your stomach when you cough. you spirometer to help expand your lungs and you c-pap/bi-pap machine if you have one. I started drinking 64oz of Water yesterday. Took all day and that's with a whole stomach! I think I'll have to start getting up earlier just to start drinking.

Need4 change he may not have put you on diet because a lower bmi would disqualify you for insurance. Cigna is funky like that I've heArd. Trust you doctor.

    Pre op Diet

Either 1 protein shake and (2) 800 cal meals or 2 shakes a (1)800 cal meal
  7. I had lapband for 7 years..then complications where they had to remove it. Now having sleeve on 8/26. My doc doesn't even do the band anymore because of the complications. Sleeve is new rage... Bypass is #1... I like sleeve because I will still have a stomach. Lapband can slip and cause a lot of scar tissue
  8. Had lapband 7 years ago recovery was a breeze. Having sleeve on 26th and I expect a little more discomfort but bearable. I know of one girl who did Zumba a week after the sleeve..that's promising right? It'll be fine.
  9. Sometimes they have so many patients it becomes a cattle call. Do your homework before you switch.
  10. Thinking thin... Best to you tomorrow get a good nights rest
  11. Chellebell my surgery is day after yours on 26th. Just started my pre op diet. I jonesing for some caffeine. Took 2 Tylenol pm and going to bed early.

Who, and when, to tell about surgery?

This is my second WLS, had band in 2008. Had some complications in 2014 and it had to come out. Of course, in a years time I gain almost all weight back. One of mygirlfriends husband told me "now you look like the girl we know, I recognize you... t's good to have some girth... a little girth never hurt nobody". I was kind of shocked. I'm sure he was well-meaning but I didn't appreciate it that way. So needless to say... I'm not sharing my new decision to get the sleeve with his wife so she won't share it with him. WLS is a personal decision that I have to make for my health and emotional well-being.. .not because "girth is good". So I have been very selective about who I share this information with. A few close friends that know and respect that I want to keep it on the downlow and that's it. The rest will find out when they see the results. After it's over, if someone ask I'll be happy to share with them my decision to use the WLS tool. After it's done.. there is no point in trying to discourage me. Best to all on your personal journey! I'm going in 8/26
  13. I wish follow up care included a consultation with a plastic surgeon for body conturing/ skin removal
  14. Hello All. I'm a converter too. Same issues... everyday vomitting with the band. Had lots of scar tissue and blockage of esophagus. Finally ditched the band in Jan this year. BMI is 35.8. Can only lose about 3lbs to still qualify for sleeve. It's shocking how fast the weight came back on after band removal. I had to appeal insurance decision to look at my case as a continuation of my treatment rather than a new case. Finally, after a month they approved me... but i'm not taking any chances... bmi will be 35 on surgery day.
  15. I go 8/26 too!! I haven't started the diet yet. So that I will qualify for insurance on surgery day I can only afford to lose 3 lbs so my bmi will remain at 35... That really sucks doesn't it... Smh
  16. So happy to have found 'my group'. Lap to Sleeve. Band was removed Early February and I am scheduled for sleeve on 8/26. I'm so looking forward to it. I know these procedures are just tools and not cure-alls. I know work in involved. I was banded in 2008 and lost over 100lbs. After the complications with my band I regain much of that weight back...although it happened on it's own and quite fast, it was also a necessary evil in order to qualify for the sleeve. All my health issues resurfaced when I gain weight. HPB, back pain, sleep apnea... and low energy. I can't wait to get rid of all that and be healthy again. One of my co workers had a leak but what happened to her is rare unless you don't follow instructions and then you can only blame yourself for that. This is too much to go through not to commit to success. Ppl gain weight when they each high caloric foods.. then that sleeve starts to stretch and you're back a ground zero. But... that's not going to happen to us... we're on a mission right!?!?

    Any August Sleevers?

Monieanne - I'm transitioning from lapband to sleeve too! I am over all this weight gain. With sleeve I went down to 119lbs but then complications. I"m up to 209lbs now and feeling miserable. I'm can't wait to get my high energy life back! 8/26/15
  18. They absolutely will treat you better...no doubt. Be sure to maintain who you are. Many of us are friendly people by way of our obesity...it takes the attention off all the weight we carry. If you had a great personality before weightloss...keep it. We can never forget where we came from and start looking down on others who are overweight. It can happen so easy. When we were fat there are always a few mean spirited people who want to make you feel bad....don't become one of them... Help others join the journey without being unkind.

    Surgery tomorrow!

Don't forget your incentive spirometer .. That plastic contraption you breath in to help expand your lungs. I have to use mine 2 weeks before surgery and bring to hospital. Also a robe..they want you to start walking those halls ASAP after your surgery.

    Nervous

It's normal to be a bit anxious. My surgery is August 26 and I can hardly wait. This will be my second bariatric surgery. Had lapband in 2008. Had complications and the had to remove it which caused be to blow up to 209lbs in a matter of months. I actually have a badkadunk and believe me...it is heavy!! I can't wait to loose this weight and get my groove back. I miss all the energy I had when I lost weight the first time. After it's done and you start to loose those pounds, you will be Sooooohappy that you took charge of your health. Best wishes to you all!!!!

    Liquid diet starts today

John...when is / was your surgery?
  23. I'm so ready for this. I had lapband 7 yrs ago. Did well until complications tat caused me to have in removed this January. I blew right up. Last year in March I was 119lbs, which I admit was too small for my 5'4" frame. Now I am 209lb... I'm so depressed because my life and health changed drastically..I hardly had time to keep up. Having the sleeve on August 26!!! Yay!!
  24. Juno5. My dr said they same to me but, the office manager said differently. She is the one who has to make sure the doctor gets paid
  25. The office manager told me the same. It's related to your bmi. At minimum it has to be 35 with at least 2 co-morbities like HBP and sleep apnea. If it's under that, insurance may deny you as not qualifying. If you bmi is higher than that already ..then likely you'd be encouraged to loose weight but not enough to be under 35
