What the BLEEEEP am I doing wrong?!?
Joanna240 replied to MamaJava's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
What are your carbs in relation to the calories? I'm starting to believe that some of us are very carb sensitive and even with LapBand will have to stay on a healthy LowCal/LowCarb diet for the rest of our lives. You may want to try different food choices and keep the carb intake to 30 grams a day. What you eat needs to stay in the single digits for carbs. George Stella - Stella Style Community "1 cup of food per meal and that does fill me up, but then I'm hungry (drooling) 1 hour later." The low-carbers would say that your carb intake is waaaay too high and that's why you are hungry an hour later. There are lots of low-carb fruits and veggies but banana's are high, milk is somewhat high. The yogurt is high unless it's a low-carb yogurt. I've been addicted to carbs for many years and I think I've just worn out my body with them. I've got to shock my system into not having carbs - like detox. I was just banded on 1/16/08 and I'm reading low-carb books while I'm laying around recovering. Doing fairly well but right now I feel like I have a cement block in the upper part of my stomach, sure hope that "big knot" feeling goes away? it goes away right? -
At the end of day 3, I'm still running a fever, got a headache, wish I'd pass gas better, retaining fluids (barely peeing) although I've concentrated on drinking lots of fluids today, at one time the top of my stomach felt like it was going to explode, but other than all that I'm fine. I never could have survived a bypass. At the mall on the day of surgery! geez, no way for me.

How many days was your pre-op diet? Only liquids? or some solids too? Did you stick to it? If not, what were the results? What did your Dr say? or did s/he know?
-
I got banded on Jan 16th, and I'd be doing real well if it wasn't for this headache. Don't know if Tylenol Cold Head Congestion is acceptable to take but I just took two. Guess I'll really concentrate on taking in a bunch of fluids today. I've got liquid tylenol and liquid hydrocodone but can't get anything to put a dent in this headache much. I haven't had any gas pains.

How did you do on Pre-op diet?
Joanna240 replied to Joanna240's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Surgery went fine, only problems have been nagging headache and low-grade fever. I'm taking liquid Tylenol and on Clear liquids. I cooked broccoli and cabbage in my broth. I had to have something to crunch on. My doctor said my liver was fine. If I "cheated" on the pre-op diet it was on something very low-carb. Warmest regards, Joanna -

Waking up after surgery, what is the likely scenario? Am I going to feel like I've been hit by a Mack truck? Tubes everywhere? I'm a control freak and this is the part I'm most nervous about, that I'm sick and can't get it together. Just go ahead and tell me what to expect.

Thx, Joanna in North Carolina Surgery by Dr. Cook at Frye Medical Wednesday January 16, 2008.

Question for Bandsters... Are you hungry???
Joanna240 replied to BandyMama's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story

One of my friends once admitted to me that he couldn't go to sleep at night if there was a beer in the refrigerator. Then, I got to thinking that my addiction was not alcohol but food. I don't get banded until next week, Jan 16 2008. To lose weight, I know I can only have lowcarb foods and drinks in the house. Fortunately for me, it's just my husband and I at home and he is willing to stay on the same LowCalorie LowCarb foods that I am.

I do believe the LapBand is a good tool. Just as you can have all the top-notch tools to build something but you still have to put the labor into it. Our labor is to consume LowCalorie, very LowCarb foods and drinks.

I've learned just on this Pre-Op diet that my 51yr old obese Type 2 Diabetes body is responding so well to those foods. It's returned my bloodsugars to almost normal in just a few days and I've had diabetes for years. The lbs are just melting off and I feel better than I have in years. It's Wednesday, all this since Sunday! I'm not kidding.
-
GOOD LUCK! I'll be thinking about ya tomorrow, I go on Jan 16th. I've sure learned something on this 10-day LowCarb liquid diet, seems like the weight is melting off of me. I'm barely taking any medicine for diabetes because my bloodsugar is almost normal, haven't seen that for years. Jan 16th will be banded by Dr. Cook at Frye Medical in North Carolina

On the Pre-op diet, I knew the difficult part for me would be the blood sugar. My physician said to keep a close watch on the blood sugars and adjust medicines accordingly. Day 1 - Sunday - at 3:15AM this morning, had an attack which equals to feeling like an earthquake is going on inside my body. Got up and ate peanut butter and drank a glass of 1% milk. Don't know my blood sugar reading because I wasn't physically able to take it. Went back to sleep. Day 2 - Monday - at 3:15PM mild attack at work, I just ate some Sugar-free pudding and I still feel shaky. bloodsugar = 102. Haven't taken any medication today. I got to make it to Wed Jan 16, 2008 when I have my surgery. The main reason I applied for the LapBand is because I couldn't decide to eat light, I'm always having to feed the diabetes and medicines, that's how I kept gaining weight. Anyway, I'll keep plugging on because I want my liver to be ready for next Wednesday but if you have any words of advice I'd appreciate it. The liquid diet is not so bad because I've got various things to drink. I put spices - cinnamon, nutmeg, and allspice - in my Low-Carb Slim Fast Vanilla Creme to make it taste like eggnog. I like Diet V8 Splash Berry Blend. In broth, I put just a few pieces of broccoli in it just so I could bite into something.

Diet V8 Splash berry Blend Wanted to pass on that I think this is delicious. Cheap = $1.38 for 2 quart bottle. Lots of Vitamin A and C and some Vitamin E. Only 3 carbs and 10 calories a serving. I'm starting the 10-day pre-op diet and found this at WalMart. By the coloring, looks like it will taste like regular V8 but it has a nice berry flavor.

I'm getting banded Jan 16th too, I'm on est in NW NC. I have to be at the hospital at 5:30AM and it's 1 1/2hr away at Frye Medical Center in Hickory. Odd about doctors, my 10-day pre-op diet doesn't start until tomorrow 1/6/08 but I got stocked up on stuff today. I love Diet V8 Splash berry Blend.

waking up after surgery
Joanna240 replied to Joanna240's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
as soon as I opened my eyes I heard 1 nurse say to another "tell him to pull the car around". I was like WHAT?? I could barely keep my eyes open. ********************************************** That's hilarious! -
waking up after surgery
Joanna240 replied to Joanna240's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Oh, some of you went home that afternoon after surgery? They got me staying the night (23-hour max in the hospital if no complications, same-day-surgery). Is that because I have Type 2 Diabetes? They said I'd be catherized until I felt like walking. And hose on my legs to pevent blood clots. Breathing into a machine to make sure I'm not getting pneumonia. I'm not a sickly person, just fat with Type 2 Diabetes. Did they do all that to y'all? They also said I'd have a morphine machine, that I could push the button every 11 minutes . When the staff said that some people wake up feeling OK and some feel like they have been hit by a Mack truck, my husband piped up and said, "she'll be one that feels like she was hit by a Mack truck." Guess I have a reputation. I just want to get back on my feet and get the heck out of there. I'm not a "hospital/going to doctor's" kinda person but I'm desperate to get this weight off and need some help. Joanna in North Carolina -
CIGNA people-How long did it take for approval/denial?
Joanna240 replied to kacee's topic in Insurance & Financing
Took 6 weeks for Cigna to approve me after the surgeons office submitted the 75-page fax. Surgery is scheduled for Jan 16, 08. I was hoping to get the surgery done in '07 because I had satisfied a $400 deductible but no, Cigna drug it out so I have to pay a % plus the $400 deductible. With Cigna paying for it, costs me approx $2,500 out-of-pocket which I'm not complaining, I'm thrilled Cigna is paying most of it or I couldn't afford to have it done although I'm desparate to get this weight off. -
