I’ve gone from band in 09 to sleeve in 2013. I have severe GERD, with many qualifying tests, my doctors want to preform a Gastrojejunostomy added to the sleeve. It is the malabsorption part of the roux en y procedure leaving the sleeve intact. There are papers on it saying it is a good added procedure and relieves the GERD and protects the esophagus from excess reflux. It is a hybrid procedure. Has anyone any information on this, heard of it?

Thank you. I’ve been searching, but have not come across this particular solution my surgeon proposes. I don’t disagree with him as it sounds viable, I am trying to do my due diligence. Thank all of you again. There is an article, abstract only on line for this : “ Effects of Adding Gastrojejunostomy to Sleeve Gastrectomy on GERD, Food Tolerance, and Weight Loss: A Randomized Study.” i would be interested in opinions on this if someone reads article.

Mexico. Good. Bad. And ugly?
Susan2008 replied to JapGirl's topic in Mexico & Self-Pay Weight Loss Surgery
i have two children as well. You dont have to listen to me, me I thought I should tell you the truth. I've heard all the news as well. I, too, am knowledgable about the news. I was worried until I did my research and spoke with many who have gone before. Surely, you do not think we would keep flocking to Mexico if half showing up missing -

I've traveled the world. The things we've heard about Tijuana are not true. I just returned and I would walk around most anywhere alone. It is beautiful, clean, with not so clean areas, upscale areas, great restaurants, excellent food stands. There is some trash on sidewalks in some locations, just like your hometowns or big cities. It is a large city and you will be isolated in one very small perfectly safe area. You are taken care of and will have everything you need. I went alone. My roommate had never traveled before and she managed perfectly well on her own. Doctors can be pompus asses, and friends give you advice on stories heard from their past based on disinformation. "I heard that it is........" without any knowledge or background or personal experience. I would go again, and recommend you join Dr. Altamirano face book page, and do a skype interview with him. Because if you go to Mexico, you will get nothing but excellent care from an attentive, physician, care from hospital attendants immediately, clean rooms, expert service. All, English speaking. Bet your doctor cannot speak Spanish. And to add, after leaving surgery, Ive had no pain meds. Mine was a complicated band to sleeve revision. Plus, if your doctors agreed, they or their friends would not collect the $14-$20,000 they expect to charge. Go, its perfectly fine, and you will learn something valuable and gain new experiences like a quiet hospital and no noise from the nurses' station all night. -

Susan2008 posted a topic in Revision Weight Loss Surgery Forums (NEW!)
Anyone with GERD related to slipped band have success with a new sleeve. My local bariatric doctor is adament on the sleeve as my bmi is low because i still have band. We all know what will hapen once band is removed without additional surgery. I scheduled for the sleeve in Mexico and am thrilled -
Did anyone of you who had slipped band with GERD and converted to sleeve have positive experience. Local doctor says GERD was caused by the band. He was adament for me to go to sleeve as my BMI was low. Im scheduled for sleeve this week.

Help! I had reflux that caused coughing all my life. After being banded Jan 08 it settled down after 5 weeks and went AWAY! Last month I had a fill that was too much, had 1/2 cc removed and all was great -for a week. The cough has escalated now and I cough all the time. Take Protonix, gaviscon. I am okay while standing during the day, but as soon as I eat and sit, I cough a LOT!! Sometimes until I gag and spit up. Anybody have problems such as this? Please help. I just had an upper GI. I am working through this with my doc.:rolleyes2:

Hi! I am scheduled for the 15th! I feel as you do. I am eating more than normal - at least more junk than normal. It won't be long, though, and we will have the help that we need. Nothing tastes as good as skinny! Good luck on your banding!
