1 Year Plastics Surgiversary- Oh how things have changed...
katladee replied to AvaFern's topic in Plastic & Reconstructive Surgery
Ava, I commend you on the life making decisions you have made for yourself, and that is the only person you have to make happy! I am a newbie, but have been overweight from my high school days to now. I am 56 and finally decided it was time to do something. I haven't had my surgery yet, and am inwardly curious as to what my life will be like as a thin person. Just wanted to say that if a guy can't accept you for the person you are, but what your appearance is, then by all means kick him to the curb! You want to share you life with someone who loves you regardless. Life is short, and you never know if something is going to happen to change your appearance or health. If they truly care and love you they will accept those changes as well. Just as you would for that person. I was married before and my weight was always an issue for him. One child and 14 yrs later I finally made the decision to leave. I met someone that I have been with for 15 yrs now, and he has loved me through it all. He is my biggest supporter now, not so he will have a thin woman, but because he knows it is what I want to keep me healthy so we can have another 15-20 years together. You will find that someone that can look past the wrapping and love you for your wonderful personality, big heart, and kind soul that is on the inside. You rock, girl! Thanks for your honesty, and willingness to share your feelings! -

Is the Jif peanut butter powder the same thing? Thanks!

For replacing the oil with applesauce do you keep the same measurements? So if a recipe calls for 1/2 cup oil, do you use 1/2 cup applesauce? Thanks!

Thank you Ms. Peach! How long were you in the hospital? And a stupid question, is tomato Soup allowed when I get to the cream soup phase?

Hello! I am just starting my new journey. Have only attended the class that discusses WLS options. I am hoping to be able to have the sleeve, but I learned that because of being diabetic my surgeon may suggest the bypass instead. In the class they said that diabetics have a better chance of getting off all meds and insulin with the bypass. My whole goal in WLS is to get off all my medications for diabetes, high blood pressure, high cholesterol (these last two are not really an issue for me, but more of a preventative measure), Lantus and Humalog insulins, my CPAP machine and most importantly pain med's for constant hip and low back pain. My PCP wanted me to have back surgery, but that scares the bejezus out of me! So I am hoping that weight loss will eliminate the need for that. This pain keeps me from walking too much, and if I push myself I pay for it over the next two days. So I hope that as the weight comes off I can walk, and finally be able to join my family on the fun things they do. I want to thank everyone who shares their tips, advice, personal stories (good and bad), because it certainly has helped me going into this process with all the information I have gained from you! I wish every one of you continued success, and for those like me just beginning, let's enjoy the ride together!

Hello, I am just starting on my journey. Have only attended the class on different WLS options. I really think I want the sleeve, however the Dr may have another opinion when I see him. I just want to say thanks for all the tips, advice, personal stories (good and bad), that I have found on this site. Because of the many people that are courageous enough to share their advice and experiences, I have been gaining a lot of knowledge going into this journey so that my eyes are wide open! My primary reason for doing this surgery is to get off of my many pills, 2 types of insulin shots, CPAP machine, and HOPEFULLY relieve my back and hip pain so I can also get off of pain medications. They wanted to do back surgery but that scares the bejezus out of me, so I am hoping to avoid it with weight loss. Anyhow, I am happy to be a new member of the Bariatricpal society! Do we get a secret decoder ring or something? LOL
