  1. You look amazing! Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App
  2. I've become interested in protein water as another source of hitting my daily protein goals and found a couple possibilities. Anyone tried protein water? If so, what brand, cost, and place of purchase please?

    Protein Water

Sounds like Isopure is the one to try. Thanks you guys!
  4. Ok so there's my arm which looks skinny and then there's this sagging blubbery hanging cow utter attached to my upper arm. Any advice on minimizing this non surgically? I have recently incorporated some arm exercises into my workout routine but really don't know what I'm doing. I keep my exercise simple w/ walking and some stair stepping. Now I'm over at the weights completely clueless! Help! PS: I've hit the -100 lb mark! Hooray!!!

    Blockage post op

I haven't had a blockage but I know it's common. I've had the beginnings of ulcers, which caused hard core dry heaving and vomiting. This was miserable enough, I can't imagine how difficult a time you've had. I wish I could give you some great advice or lessons learned to help. Does your hospital or surgeon facilitate a local support group? If so, that might be a great resource for you. Mine has been invaluable for me. Just talking to others who can relate to what you're dealing with and how you're feeling helps so much.

    Saggy Arms

Down more than 100 lbs in such a short time! You rock that! My recommendation would be getting together with a personal trainer (or someone you know AND trust that is a weight lifter) at your gym to discuss proper weight training techniques, mainly so you can learn to properly lift weights. Weights will truly help some of that, you just want to take it easy and don't over do it! It might be a little pricey, but well worth it to tone/sculpt. Dead lifts can do some magic of their own, as well! But proper technique and knowledge for weight lifting/weight training is essential. Good luck!! Good ideas! I've worked too hard to have a setback now. I definitely don't want to hurt myself.

    Saggy Arms

Thanks for the replies! I'm going to do some research on exercises specifically for the upper arm area and try to minimize it, but it sounds like the only way I'll ever really get rid of them is surgery. I have saggy skin other places too, but my arms seem to look the worst and cause me the most trouble (shirts that fit me everywhere else but the upper arms). Oh well, getting closer to a healthy weight is worth saggy upper arms.
  8. If you're hungry, eat. Just make it lean Protein cooked in a healthful manner. After a million meals and Snacks of chicken breast, you might not feel like eating so much as starting a 'Save the Chickens' campaign so you never have to look at a chicken breast again. Also, if I'm hungry between meals I'll drink lots of Water. Getting in all my water is something I have to work on and when I do, I feel less hungry.
  9. Protein coffee mixed drink. Yum.

    Regain

Keep it simple. Implement one post op rule at a time and build. Put out more than you take in. That's my goal every day. I'm only 5 months out and have lost 100+ pounds but I have slow or no go weeks and have to give this advice to myself to get the ball rolling again. Btw, congrats on your weight loss and you inspire me to keep working because here you are years later and you're still fighting the good fight! You're awesome! Don't ever forget everything you've already accomplished! You've already proven to yourself that you can do it. You've done it. You can do it again. xoxo

    Eating & Drinking question

For the first few months I stuck to this rule like crazy. Now I'll have a small sip or two with my meal if I'm eating something thick or kinda dry. I still stick to the no water 30 before and especially after. It makes a big difference in staying full longer.

    Tortillas and chips?

I handle corn chips just fine but tortillas come right back up just like bread. It's interesting what does and doesn't work for different people.

    Mentally Hungry

I've had the same issue and found that it's a lot like quitting smoking. Even after all the nicotine was out of my body my mind still craved cigarettes. Every day the craving became less. It took a long time but I'm coming up on my 5 year anniversary of quitting smoking and could care less about cigarettes now. I'm 4 months out from gastric bypass surgery (lost 72 lbs) and still have sugar and white flour food cravings, but as long as I eat 3 Protein first meals a day and drink my Water, my mind doesn't tell me I'm hungry as much. The false hunger is less now and I think/hope over more time the false hunger will go away completely. Also distraction helps. When my mind tells me I'm hungry but my body is full, I distract myself with anything that works. I text a friend, clean, do chores, suck on a piece of sugar free candy or chew a piece of sugar free gum or drink a cup of decaf tea. I'd like to say I run out and exercise to distract myself but that feels more like a punishment. ???? Just know it gets better. The more you focus on your health, the less your mind will sabotage you. You can do this!!! ????????

    Honey?

I use honey in my tea and have no issues. I don't have it every day and I don't use much honey. Just enough for taste. Everyone is different. I would say try it and see.
  15. I didn't dye at first because I was worried about my hair falling out. It's falling out anyway. I just colored my hair last week and haven't seen any difference at all in the amount of hair I'm losing so I will continue to color my hair. I figure if I'm going to have to live with super thin hair for the next several months it might as well be the color I like. Also, I use permanent not semi so it's harsher than yours.
  16. I take water with me everywhere I go. If I'm just chilling, I literally hold a water bottle, lid off, never setting it down until it's empty. With work I'm not supposed to have water with me so I buy little tiny bottled waters at Trader Joes that fit in my pants pockets and sneak sips while I work because I can't get all my water in before, after, and during breaks. I have to drink all day to get my water in. It was a huge pain and I didn't do it at first, but dehydration is worse than learning to sip all day. Now that I'm used to it, it's not that bad.
  17. I can fit into a booth now! No more anxiety over seating at a restaurant! No more dealing with anger from friends and family over having to wait for a table instead of a booth. I feel like a normal human being again.

    Very bad back pains

I'm at the 50 pound weight loss mark and my upper and lower back is terrible. I have degenerative disc disease so I'm used to back pain but this is worse than ever. My muscles are so tight. My hips and spine feel unattached to the rest of me. They slide out of place. Make noise when walking. I'm doing my physical therapy and hot n cold packs and muscle relaxers. Nothing is helping. My quality of life has gone from bad to worse. I'm getting to the point where dealing w nonstop pain just isn't worth it. There's no relief. I used to take the max does of Advil w other pain killers but now I can't have Advil. The inflammation is incredible. I thought losing weight would lower my pain not add to it. I don't have the $$$ for chiropractic care. I'm out of strength. Out of will. Out of fight. I can't stay in bed and lie on my back all day. I have bills to pay. A family to care for. I feel hopeless.
  19. Protein shakes and liquids or mushy baby food and all I had was the runs but once I transitioned to food w more Fiber it's not nearly as bad. I have my refried Beans with cheese at least once a day. I switched to a raw Protein shake full of fiber too. I think a lot of it is hormonal for me too as I have PCOS. But the liquid diet had me in the bathroom constantly.

I was just thinking of cooking up some black beans and wondering if I was allowed to eat them! Now I'll give it a try.

    Hair lose after RNY

When I went in for my last apt there was a woman there who had a large round patch of hair missing on the back of her head so I don't think it's too rare. Mine is thinning out mostly in the front. I hate it. I already had a big forehead and thin hair. Now I feel like I have male pattern baldness.
  22. A month out and it sounds like I eating way more than everyone else. I'll have an egg with cheese for breakfast or half a can of tuna salad for lunch. I'm not measuring things but it's more than a couple bites. Now I'm worried my pouch is too big and I'm eating too much.

    Hungry please help

Are you waiting 30 mins before and after meals to drink Water? Are you taking all your Vitamins? Are your reaching your Protein and water goals? If these cravings and hunger are in your head and not your body, which they should be if your doing all of the above, I think group or one on one therapy will help give you tools to deal with the problem. Also remember this new tummy, new eating habit is VERY new for for you. Your mind and body need time to adjust to this huge life altering operation. I know that while my huge sweet tooth has vanished, when I go into the kitchen and see other yummy fast food things, which I ate all the time before, I want want want. But my one trial (an egg and cheese mcmuffin minus the muffin) ended in pain and puking so I remind myself of that shameful episode and move on. Just know that you're not the only one dealing with cravings. It's normal. It's like quitting a bad habit. Your mind takes about 3 months to really start to move on.
  24. Today my scale told me I lost 40 pounds! Holy moly! I feel like if I strapped on some fairy wings I could fly away! What do you think? Does my face look thinner? Maybe just a bit?
  25. I've had anxiety most of my life so I pretty much think I'm dying every day. my surgeon LOVES me. Haha
