Today I learned that I most likely have a very big surgery to reconstruct my left ALC coming up... which means six months of pain, limited mobility, and physical therapy. I'm only three months post op from my RNY, and I need the exercise I simply can't get right now, and now won't be able to do for a long time. I feel like I could cry.

I don't know the name David Stamps, who Miss Mac wrote about, so his videos are good to know about. There are many, many other chair exercise videos available, incl. Chair Dancing (a series); Sit and Be Fit (also a TV show on many public TV stations. Your public library will have some for loan and can get others on interlibrary loan. You'll find quite a few at sparkpeople.com (check the exercise/video tab); join their Chair Exercise Team, which has a sticky thread of resources far more extensive than what 'm recalling at the moment and Miss Mac's suggestion. A friend who has run marathons, competed in triathlons (not Ironman), skis, etc., went to a chair class w/her elderly mother and reported that it was a valid workout for anyone. There's also a chair yoga video that should help with relaxation. Many Y's and private gyms offer chair classes. If I recall anything else, I'll let you know. You probably should run any chair exercise by your surgeon and PT in case some are not good for you at some time or other during your healing period. You'll be great.
