I had the RNY two weeks and two days ago, and I've only lost about ten pounds. Some people lose more, some lose less. I wouldn't worry if I were you. It's a little frustrating that I seem to be moving at such a slow pace in terms of losing, but every body is different. You're doing just fine!

Really strange physical reaction!
Cervidae replied to Cervidae's topic in Gastric Bypass Surgery Forums
I'm only 23. o.O it's not possible to have hot flashes at this age, is it? I do have PCOS, so maybe some kind of hormonal issue in general? How odd. -
I'm only two weeks post op and I already have this feeling as well! The thought of fried/chemically anything just seems completely unappetizing, whereas seeing clean recipes, fresh, organic food seems delicious and very appealing to me. I think it's the great reduction in sugar that everyone goes through pre and post op! Our bodies are no longer addicted to all the crap in a lot of our food so now we just see it as the toxic junk that it is. Congrats on your weight loss!

Pre-op diet, too few calories?
Cervidae replied to toasty's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
You're actually getting more calories in than I was on my post-op diet. It's a drastic reduction in calories from the average person's diet before surgery but it's only for a few days, and losing a few extra pounds before surgery is very helpful to reduce any fatty liver issues that you might be having, which in turn greatly reduces the risk of a number of complications during and after surgery. I know it's not exactly fun (I felt weak and sometimes even a little faint) but it will totally be worth it in the end. I lost ten pounds in the week before my surgery from drinking only protein shakes, water, low fat milk, and a small meal high in protein two days of that week. Good luck! There doesn't seem to be anything out of order happening with your caloric intake, but perhaps your nutritionist will decide to change it up. Otherwise, keep up your hard work and you will soon be feeling the benefits. -
Have you spoken to your doctor or nutritionist about this? They may be able to help you somehow. Or perhaps prescribe you an anti-nausea medication. Give it time, though. Your body is still healing, and your digestive tract is still getting used to this huge change. Don't give up hope yet, and try to remember all the reasons you did this in the first place. It will get better!

Preop "the last supper"
Cervidae replied to jamiemarie_11's topic in Weight Loss Surgery Success Stories
Totally normal and nothing to be ashamed about, but like @@lauraellen80 did, when I ate my favorite things, I ate them slowly and tried to be really aware of why I loved these foods so much and to really make myself understand that some of these foods will not really even be foods I can eat again after surgery. Fortunately for me, a lot of my comfort foods aren't actually that bad for me. My "last meal" was grilled chicken and shrimp, grilled onions, and redskin potatoes from Applebees. That's not that different from the kind of food I'll be able to eat once my body has recovered. I'm two weeks and two days post-op. Congratulations on your approval! It's a really exciting time. -

Almost 3 weeks.. pain? Waiting for normal...
Cervidae replied to SAD HATTER's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I've been more aware of all my senses since surgery. My sense of smell is incredible, and overall I just feel much more aware. I believe it is the lack of crap going into our bodies, especially the huge reduction in sugar. I'm two weeks and two days since my RNY and I'm told to eat 4 oz. or less per meal. I'm only getting in one, rarely two meals so far, though i'm encouraged to have three small meals a day and two Protein shakes a day. 1 TBS seems very small, but every surgeon is different. As for eating being enjoyable, I think that is a thing of that past for us. Things can still taste good to me, but I just don't get the same satisfaction from eating that I used to. But isn't that part of the great thing about WLS? I believe it will help us to lose and keep off weight in the long run. As for your pain on the left side, try heating packs. I barely have any pain any more, and only when I overexert myself is it even very noticeable. Some people still have pain even 4 or 6 weeks afterward, but if it is worrying you, perhaps you should call your doctor. Did you have a drain in when you left the hospital? Recently, there was another thread here written by a woman who had left side pain long after her pain should have subsided and she ended up back at the hospital where she found out that she had a buildup of Fluid in her abdomen. It was for this very possibility that my surgeon made me keep the drain in for a week after I came home. I despised it SO much but I'm seeing now that fluid buildup is a real possibility. Not trying to scare you! Just saying to keep an eye on your pain, and if it worsens, definitely call a doctor or go see one. Otherwise, you are most likely on the road to healing and you will get there eventually. Don't push yourself past your limits. Your body has been through a substantial trauma and everyone heals at their own pace. If something hurts or exhausts you too much, just give yourself a few more days before you get back to your previous exercise habits. Take care of yourself! Keep us updated. -
It's been two weeks and two days since my RNY and I'm able to eat a half cup of pureed food. Then again, I suspect that's simply because I have always healed very well, very quickly. Sometimes I feel satisfied before I finish the half cup, and sometimes the half cup is the perfect amount for me. Still, I don't think you're egg-size portion is abnormal at all.

Protein Shake Liquid Diet Suggestion?
Cervidae replied to Trisha213's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I'm a little over two weeks out past my RNY, and the brands I like are: muscle milk (all flavors but their chocolate least of all. The cookies and creme one is great), pure protein (which is great because it's 35g of protein and only 1g of sugar, and it's in a soda-can size so it's not a huge amount of liquid to drink), and Met-Rx Protein Plus RTD 51. These are all ready to drink shakes and I find them to be the least chalky/gross. Just my experience though. You really may have to just try things after surgery because your taste buds certainly will change. Good luck! -
You guys will do just fine. Take care of yourselves, and good luck!

@ and @@manji2013, you both are going to do fantastic! I remember that feeling, a mix of terrified and intensely excited, and very soon all that work will begin to pay off. I remember coming home two days after surgery and thinking "wow... it actually happened. I actually did this. It's done." It's a really profound kind of realization. I see surgery as a sort of hinge, after which your life takes an entirely new direction. You guys are both right at the hinge, and the whole other side is coming very soon! Just take it easy, be good to yourself, and listen to your doctors and nurses. All of us here have been where you are or are going to be soon, and we all are here to support you! Good luck to you both! -
I ate about 6 tortellinis this morning! I'm having RNY TOMORROW AT 2:00! Oh Lord, what do I do? Should I try to throw up?!?
Cervidae replied to sallymann's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I would say you need to call your doctor right now and ask what you should do. There are really important medical reasons that your surgeon tells you to do and not do certain things. That being said, I've seen some people ordered to only have Clear liquids the day before and nothing after midnight, and some people who must have clear liquids for two weeks before surgery. It really all depends on your specific doctor, you you really should call him or her. Good luck! -
My RNY was 8/17 as well, and I'm in Rochester, NY. I'm so excited for you!

Yeah approved for a revision!...But getting married in December...thoughts?
Cervidae replied to betrthnever's topic in Revision Weight Loss Surgery Forums (NEW!)
When I weighed myself last Wednesday, I had lost 8 pounds (ten days after surgery). Unfortunately my stupid scale is broken so I won't know how much more I've lost since then until tomorrow or the next day when I can get to my doctor's office. -

I'm exactly two weeks out today (woohoo!) and I'm well on the way to feeling "normal". I get tired still but my pain is virtually gone, I can sleep curled up on my side like I always do, I went grocery shopping today and it was about 30 minutes of walking around, and I felt no pain, only a little fatigue. I think with that much extra time to recover, you will be perfectly fine! Just my opinion and experience though. Do what sounds and feels right to you, and what your doctor recommends. Congratulations on the several good things that are happening for you. -
This is so awesome! And very inspirational to me! Congrats.
-
Oh no, I'm sorry you're having to deal with this! That sounds like no fun at all. I actually had to keep my drain in until a week after I came home to prevent this very problem. I was absolutely despising my drain but I know why it was necessary. I wish I had some knowledge or experience about it to offer you some comfort, but I don't. It won't last forever! Take care of yourself, take it easy, and feel better soon!

I can't speak for other surgeons/bariatric offices but mine told me it's important that anything I eat has less than 5 grams of sugar a serving. Also, gummy anything does not sit well with the pouch/sleeve. I wouldn't even try it because I'd rather just not risk it and it seems like it's not really worth the possible issues it could cause. D:

Hi Leroy! I'm 11 days post op and I had some pretty terrible gas pain for the first 5 days or so. I can tell you with confidence that it will get better every day. The worst is behind you. Just take it easy, be gentle and careful with yourself, get yourself some Gas-X strips and a heating pad, and everything will be fine very soon. I feel great! You will too, soon. Keep us posted.

Official August thread! Where are you guys?
Cervidae replied to Faithoftheheart's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I had my bypass ten days ago and I honestly haven't felt much of the fullness everyone keeps talking about. I get in 64 oz of water every day pretty easily, if slowly. I started pureed foods today and I got nauseous for the first time since surgery. Some people are saying they get super full after like an ounce of water. That just doesn't happen for me, and on top of that I do actually still feel hunger and cravings. I wonder if something is wrong with me. :/ -
