Hello @@Lexuskela - I'm almost three weeks out from having my RNY on August 17th. I, too, strive for 100g of Protein a day. My current daily food intake gives me around 100g of protein and between 600 and 650 calories, usually. Today I got 790 cals in because I had an extra cup of milk to finish off my protein requirement for the day. From what I understand, your caloric intake is not a huge deal until you hit maintenance stage. For now, it's really important to get in at least 64 oz of Water, your nutritionist's recommended protein, and your vitamins/supplements. Here's a screenshot of my usual intake. The "lunch" category is pureed and spread out in 1/2 cup increments throughout the day: http://imgur.com/kDzaLIo I was given a sort of "as needed" medication for constipation, but I rarely need to use it. Ask your nutritionist about it, and perhaps she can give you suggestions if you're having issues. Hope this helps! Feel free to message me anytime.

For a split second, I thought this post was going to be about medical marijuana. Thanks for the info! -

@@bekbek it did to me too, but when I tested my blood sugar it was on the higher side of normal. I still have no idea what it was and it has not happened since. -

The problem with smoking right before or anytime after WLS is the greatly increased risk of ulcers. It seems kind of silly to continue a smoking habit even after knowing it could create enormous, costly, and extremely painful permanent damage to your body. I know it's an addiction, but like any addictive behavior (food included!) it's something that has to be controlled if you want to live a happy healthy life. Best of luck to all of you.

Really strange physical reaction!
Cervidae replied to Cervidae's topic in Gastric Bypass Surgery Forums
I had only had water and my usual protein shake. :/ my next nutritionist appointment is not until the end of the month, and I can ask her then. It just really freaked me out. I've been following the plan to the letter... I hope I haven't done something wrong. -
No complications, healing perfectly. Knock on wood! Not losing as much weight as I had hoped but it's not uncommon to lose slowly in the beginning. ????

Congratulations! I know how exiting this time is.. I just went through it! I had my RNY on August 17th. It's really just a crazy roller coaster of emotions and impatience. very slow weight loss/please need advice
Cervidae replied to sbg224's topic in Weight Loss Surgery Success Stories
I wish I had some advice or answers to offer you. I, too, worry about this. I'm 2 weeks and 4 days post op and I've lost about 10 pounds. It seems so, so low compared to what a lot of people are losing their first weeks. Logically I know it's certainly possible that our bodies are just holding onto whatever they can, and eventually we will both start losing normally. Logically I know a lot of people have this issue where they begin with a weight loss stall right after surgery and then suddenly it will pick up and start working. But I have this nagging fear deep in a dark corner of my brain that nothing has ever worked right with my body and losing weight before... so why should it now? I've always messed up before, so why should I be doing it right now? I think these are fears that so many of us have because we spent years of our lives thinking we were wrong or bad in some way because of our weight, and being made fun of or treated badly or looked down upon because of how we looked. Hang in there (I'm saying this to you,@@More than this, myself, and any other person who has had to deal with the pain and absolute bullshit that is being overweight in our society and anyone who doubts themselves because of that). You've made the right choice. You knew this wasn't going to happen overnight. You're doing everything right here. Things will pick up, and by this time next year you'll be wondering why you ever doubted yourself in the first place. Take care of yourself, all of you! <3 -
That does not sound normal or healthy. Did you call a doctor? Has it happened again since then? I'm the paranoid type - if I had experienced something like that I would have been back in the ER asap. o.o Hope you're well/safe!

Gastric Bypass September 9- MN Metro area

Everything is going really well! So well I almost catch myself wondering if I had surgery at all. XD I'm on the pureed stage, and I have no issue getting down my 1/2 cup of pureed lean Protein. I've had no stomach problems, no stomach pain from eating or drinking, even my incisions feel just fine, though my left side gets a little sore if I sleep on it. I'm supposed to be getting 3 pureed meals in a day, 1/2 cup each, plus two 8 oz Protein shakes. I'm currently only having 1 meal, sometimes two, as I find I'm just not hungry. However, I am getting in all the protein I need, and 64 oz of Water daily, so I'm not too worried. Here are some tips/things that helped me a LOT: - If you have a comfortable recliner, I would suggest sleeping on it for the first several days or the first week when you get home. Laying flat is really uncomfortable, and it's hard to get up and down. Sleeping in a recliner really made things a lot easier and less painful. - It's going to be hard to get in all the water you need. I got a plastic container from Wal Mart that is 64 oz exactly and has measurements on the side. It made it SO much easier to see exactly what I'm drinking and make sure I'm getting enough. - Get yourself a couple boxes of Gas-X Thin Strips... you will thank me later. They work instantly and are a God-send. - Make sure you have a really good blender that can puree food into a baby food consistency. We borrowed my mom's crappy Kitchen Aid blender and thought it would be fine... nope! We ended up getting a Nutribullet at Target. It's not exactly cheap but it works so, so well and is very hardy. It's worth the money, and you'll be using it every day. - Before you leave the hospital, ask them for a bunch of hot packs. They will feel amazing and really reduce your gas pains. - I would highly recommend getting chewable versions of the Vitamins and supplements you're going to need. My doctor prescribed me chewable Multivitamins but I have to buy my own chewable Calcium. I got a pill stuck once last week... worst. experience. ever. Avoid it at all costs! When you're in the hospital, as soon as you can get up and walk, even if it's only for a couple feet and back to bed, do it! The gas pain will not be fun at all but walking is the fastest way to get rid of it. I mean, don't hurt yourself, obviously, but just try to get in some little walks even when you really really don't want to. If you have any specific questions or want recommendations on shakes/vitamins/anything, don't hesitate to ask. -
Do I have to? And plateau for 5 days...
Cervidae replied to Veronica_mm's topic in Gastric Bypass Surgery Forums
You've lost more than I have, and I'm told it's not uncommon to lose even less than me. I agree with @@James Marusek, the focus is on getting in enough Water, your Vitamins, and the required amount of Protein. I'm supposed to be getting three meals of 1/2 cup (4oz) of pureed food a day (and two 8 oz protein shakes), but I'm only getting in 1 pureed meal, rarely 2. As we speak I'm drinking this sort of savory shake I made, which consists of 1 cup of milk, 1/2 cup of nonfat cottage cheese, and 1/3 cup of white meat chicken, pureed. I planned on having this as a 4 oz meal but it made a liquid with all the milk and seems to be sitting well. It made just under 2 cups and has 37 grams of protein with very little fat or sugar. Really it boils down to getting in all your required stuff, the rest is just a take-it-as-it-comes kind of deal as your body heals and gets used to food again. All in all, you seem to be doing fine. Take it easy, listen to your body. Good luck! -

@@newbie_2025 yes, I am in the pureed stage for another 4 weeks or so. I'm supposed to be getting 3 pureed meals a day, 1/2 cup each, and 2 protein shakes, but I'm currently only getting one meal, sometimes 2 if I'm lucky. I'm just not hungry. So I'm focusing on getting all my protein and water for the time being. ????

Pre-op diet, too few calories?
Cervidae replied to toasty's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
@@toasty, I certainly found that to be true. You're simply not hungry, or at least a lot less hungry after surgery. It gets better soon. -
It's really, really unsafe to be smoking after bariatric surgery. The risk of getting bleeding ulcers is greatly increased if you smoke. I can't tell exactly what you're asking here but I'll echo what the others have said: NO. Why ruin your progress or severely harm yourself just for a smoking habit? Wishing you health and safety.

https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCYSpwzYZVMq2DWYaEY6otXg I would highly recommend checking out This person's youtube channel, starting at her oldest videos and going forward. She is very blunt and straightforward about her WLS and the triumphs and difficulties she has faced. Her channel really helped me a lot when I was feeling anxiety about it. I had my RNY a little over two weeks ago, and I regret absolutely nothing. I see it as the best decision I could have possibly made. We're all here to talk to you and support you! You don't have to go through this alone. Good luck, and feel free to friend me or message me anytime.
