Sept 22nd surgery- pre op diet today
Cervidae replied to Knitchic's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
@@ChunkyChocolate they make a chicken soup flavored and an unflavored kind as well. I like it, if it's mixed well enough it's not too chalky or heavy. I also really like muscle milk pro series - 40g of protein and they have a cookies and creme and banana cream flavor that are both really yummy. Hope that helps. -
I have had some gas but mostly it my stomach that won't shut up! Even at night while I'm sleeping. Last night I was juuuust drifting off (it takes me a while to fall asleep) when my stomach gurgled so loud that it made me jump and wake back up, haha. We're all kinds of noisy now.

Band to Bypass 8/31... Easy Peasy
Cervidae replied to gigis's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
happy to hear you are doing so well. It took me a while to find the protein shakes that work for me. At almost 4 weeks out now, I'm able to get most of my protein from my pureed food, but i usually need a shake to finish off my daily goal. I found that the pre-made premier protein shakes and the pro-series muscle milk were the best. Anyway, congratulations! Take good care of yourself, and take it easy, even though it seems you're feeling just fine. -
this sounds AMAZING! thank you for sharing!

Hey wonderful people! I just got back from the doctor's office, where I have been getting weighed since surgery almost exactly three weeks ago so I could have an accurate reading. I've lost 15 pounds since the day of surgery, and I'd be lying if I said I wasn't kind of sad and frustrated. I know that this is a perfectly normal amount to have lost in three weeks, and that it's ridiculous to worry or be bothered that it isn't more. However, that doesn't really make me feel better about it. Sigh. Anyway, the main question I have for you guys is about calories. I've read that my focus is Protein, Water, and taking my Vitamins and supplements. But I'm wondering if I'm getting in more or less or the normal amount of calories, and I would really like to hear your guys' experience with this. How many calories were you getting in daily around 3 weeks to a month? I've attached a screenshot of today's food plan from myfitnesspal.com (I love this website, and would highly recommend it!). The "breakfast" category is actually my food for the entire day, which I just pureed and which is now in the fridge waiting for later when I've had half an hour past drinking my Protein Shake. I'd love some feedback; am I doing it right, or having too much or too little? I'm eating the amount that my doctor's office gave me but still, I worry. Getting feedback would really relieve some of my anxiety. Thank you guys!

At the very beginning of my journey
Cervidae replied to Louky's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
I feel great. My incisions are so healed up they are barely noticeable. I'm tolerating my pureed foods reasonably well, and usually I'm able to get in all my liquids. I'm not losing as much as I had hoped but I am losing, and I'm just being impatient as usual, heh. I have zero regrets. -
I think I will become New Age in my Old Age
Cervidae replied to James Marusek's topic in Rants & Raves
Hey, we laugh and joke but honestly, so many of our physical and emotional problems can be soothed with things that came from the Earth. Animals know what to eat when they are sick, what specific rivers or lakes to swim in with specific minerals that help them heal, etc. Vaccines and MANY man-made medicines are just amazing and so important for the betterment and advancement of humanity and our lifespan but it's silly to think that all-natural ingredients found in plants and minerals are useless. There's a healthy balance to be had, that will lead to a healthy, balanced life. Have fun learning! -
Gas-X Strips aren't for the gas pains that come from getting air pumped into you. It's for when you eat or drink something and after one or two sips/tiny bites you already feel bloated in your new pouch. That gas pain it certainly helps, and fast! I still swear by them, they've been extremely helpful if you, like most people, get bloaty/gassy tummy pain after trying to ingest anything.

At the very beginning of my journey
Cervidae replied to Louky's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
Hello! And welcome, you're in the right place or support, advice, and information. I've learned so, so much since I joined over a month ago. I had my RNY on August 17th, three weeks and 5 days ago. If I can ever help you with anything, don't hesitate to ask. -
Welcome! You're in the right place. I'm three weeks and 5 days out from my RNY in August. Feel free to friend me/message me if you need anything.

Surgery today could use an experienced buddy!
Cervidae replied to JacksdadShane's topic in Gastric Bypass Surgery Forums
@@JacksdadShane I had a fever for several days after surgery. They say it's normal. Just rest and focus on healing. -
This really, really stinks but it's certainly not the end of your journey. I'm sorry you're sick! Give your body a chance to recover and I'm sure you'll be fine. Greatly reducing sugar and flour will really help you during and after surgery, especially since it definitely is a detox and pretty much everyone feels the effects of it for several days. Going into surgery without that extra strain will really help you! Feel better soon, and keep us updated.

1 week from surgery and getting nervous!
Cervidae replied to Jeanne189's topic in Gastric Bypass Surgery Forums
I'm sorry you aren't getting a lot of support from your friends and family. All of us here support you and understand the struggles you've had, so at least you have us. You're going to do great! Keep us updated on how you are doing. Are you on the pre-op diet? -
You look fantastic. I think peer coaching is an amazing idea! I wonder if my bariatric center does anything like that.. hmmm. Anyway, keep up the amazing work, and thanks for the inspiration! I'm only about three weeks out.

I'm three weeks and three days post op, and I don't really get hungry but I do get cravings. It's very strange. o.o

Juicing or green protein shakes for post op diet?
Cervidae replied to Dream4tc's topic in Gastric Bypass Surgery Forums
The thing about the bypass is that we just don't absorb all we need to absorb, especially from liquids. also, if you do try a green juice, take a TINY TINY sip because your body may decide to instantly dump from it. And you have to be super careful about what fruits and how many are in you juice, because even though it's natural sugar, it will definitely hurt you still. Do you have a nutritionist to ask? -
I did the exact same thing last time I was on a plane to visit my family in southern CA. It's a humiliating and miserable experience. Congratulations on your weight loss. It's little things like this that remind us just how far we have come. Have a nice time in Atlanta, and thank you for sharing.

Now I'm back to being discouraged/worried. I've lost less than you three weeks out - 15 pounds. I try to stay away from negative thinking/self talk but... I can't help but think it would be so ironic but so freaking normal for me to somehow screw this up too, even though it's my body's fault and no choice of my own. The ironic patterns of my life just repeating and repeating and repeating. Can't tell you all how frustrated and sad I am.

I'd be happy to help/talk to you about it. I had my RNY 3 weeks and 2 days ago. How are you feeling? Have you been up to walk around yet? -
Hello all! I'm now two weeks and two days past my RNY, and I'm happy to say I have had virtually no issues or complications. However, yesterday I went to my sister's senior year meet and greet at school. We walked around for about an hour and a half, and I had rests in between. I felt fine until the end of the 1.5 hours, when I suddenly felt cold and clammy to the touch, but also like I was very hot, and my boyfriend was concerned because I was getting very white but my cheeks and chest were getting red. After just a minute or two of this I started feeling faint. I drank a bit of Water and sat down, but it wasn't until I sat for several more minutes and had some more water that I started to feel even a little better. My mother is a diabetic, so she was able to check my blood sugar with her monitor, and it was normal. I know I'm not dehydrated. Has anyone else ever experienced something like this? Or does anyone have any idea what this could have been? I was walking in and out of air conditioned rooms and hot, humid hallways. Could it have been a strong reaction to temperature changes? I'm not terribly concerned, as I feel fine today, though tired. But I would really like to avoid whatever caused this strange reaction, especially since I almost fainted. Thanks!

Excited to Get This Show On the Road
Cervidae replied to kangamama's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
Congrats! There are really exciting things headed your way. We're all here to support you. Also, just a tip: try to reduce your sugar intake now, if you can. That's going to be extremely important before and after surgery. If you ever have any questions, feel free to shoot me a message! I had my RNY three weeks ago. See you around! -
Calories and being discouraged
Cervidae replied to Cervidae's topic in Gastric Bypass Surgery Forums
No, no! The Breakfast is divided into three and eaten through the day. My calories are between 650 and 750 daily, usually. I was told to have 3 meals of pureed, 1/2 cup each, and two shakes a day. I can't remember the last time I had 1800 calories, lol. -
interesting, thank you for the information. I've been taking 5000 mcg of biotin daily in the hopes that I won't lose a lot of hair. Perhaps when my bottle runs out I will try this supplement, as this is not the first time I've seen people give it glowing recommendations. As for red meat, I'm only three weeks post op and still on pureed foods, and I'm kind of scared that when I try it in the future, I will be one of those people who can no longer tolerate it. We'll see. Thanks again!

I'm in the same boat as you. I literally just came back from the doctor's office, and I've lost 15 pounds since the day of surgery in three weeks. I'm feeling frustrated and discouraged, though logically I know that 15 pounds in three weeks isn't anything to laugh at. We both have to just be patient, stick to the plan, and stop being so discouraged. We knew this wasn't a magic surgery that was going to fix years of being overweight overnight. Keep your chin up.
