Protein Bars..When did you start?
Cervidae replied to LoggedOutForGood's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
https://www.urmc.rochester.edu/MediaLibraries/URMCMedia/hh/services-centers/bariatrics/documents/Bariatric_Meal_Plan_soft.pdf that is the soft food plan for my bariatric center. Part of the reason I love them is that they are so, so organized and concise. Hope it helps you. -

I believe they are part of the soft foods diet. Just chewed very, very well. -
Getting really nervous...
Cervidae replied to larac05's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I was exactly where you are; nervous, scared, second-guessing myself. But I agree with @ - it will be worth it in the end, and you just have to remember all the reasons you chose this in the beginning. I'm sure they still apply, and I'm sure they are still very good reasons. You'll go through this, and you'll do great, and then we'll all be here to support you and check up on you afterwards. Feel free to message me anytime if you want to talk. -
my surgery was for 7:30 am. I don't remember what time exactly I woke up, but it was like 5 or 6 before I was free of the anesthesia enough to event think about getting out of bed, and probably about 8 or so when I finally got up, walked to the bathroom to pee (about ten feet of distance from the bed to the bathroom) and then, gratefully, back to bed. Then I slept because I was pooped from walking! XD Every person is different, and you may feel much better than I did, but make sure you don't push yourself too hard right in the beginning. My room mate stood up too fast and fainted.

Protein Bars..When did you start?
Cervidae replied to LoggedOutForGood's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I'm 5 weeks out and I'm not allowed to start my soft foods diet until next week. I'm still on pureed foods for the time being. But of course every doctor is different. Just my experience. -
As of right now, 5 weeks exactly since my RNY, I've lost 22 pounds.

Tomorrow will be 5 weeks post op for me, and this was so, so comforting to me. Thank you.

Cracked me up! Thank you for sharing. You've got a great attitude, and that will take you really far in this process and in life. Congratulations on your surgery! It will be 5 weeks post op for me tomorrow. -
Need mentor, I'm pretty freaked and uncertain
Cervidae replied to Jamison Long's topic in Gastric Bypass Surgery Forums
Hello @@Jamison Long - I had my RNY 5 weeks ago tomorrow. I was worried about losing foods I really liked too. The last couple weeks before I started my pre-op diet, I ate a fair amount of bad foods for this very reason, kind of a last hurrah. After all my hard for for almost a year before my surgery, I realized as I was eating the crappy foods for the (hopefully) last time that these foods don't REALLY make us feel better. In fact, they make us feel worse, they literally poison us, and rarely do we feel good about ourselves afterward, so they also harm us emotionally as well. These understandings alone made it easier and less scary. Imagine if a meth addict had the chance to have a surgery that would greatly reduce or eliminate his addiction, and heal his body from the years of doing toxic drugs. That's us; we have a new lease on life, a blank slate, and while that may seem scary because we've spent so long addicted to food, and usually bad food, it's actually a wonderful gift! Hang in there, it will get better. I'm going to friend you, and you can message me to talk anytime you want. Good luck! -
Tomorrow will be 5 weeks post op for me, and I am still pretty tired. No pain, no tummy issues, no other bad side effects to speak of really, just fatigue. Off to nap!

My insurance doesn't cover anything, sadly. :'( -
Hello guys! Today is my one month surgery anniversary. I waited all week to step on the scale because I was excited to see what it would say on the one month mark. I got up this morning and went into the bathroom to weigh myself... and was quickly disappointed. Only three pounds lost in a week and a half. Since surgery on August 18th, I've lost 17 pounds. That's 17 pounds in over 4 weeks. I know there's nothing wrong with me, I know I'm doing everything completely by the book, I know that a lot of people lose slowly at first, and that stressing about it is silly. I know my body is still healing and I knew before going into surgery that losing this slowly or even slower was a possibility. But, I'm saddened and frustrated anyway. I'm trying really hard to focus on the great things that are happening, such as my skin clearing up, the fact that I've lost 8 inches around my hips since starting this whole process, the fact that I had no complications and I feel great, except for getting tired easily still. But that little voice that's been with me most of my life is constantly whispering in my ear "you're screwing this up, you're doing something wrong, you're probably just lucky enough to be one of those people for whom the surgery doesn't work..." and it's so, so hard to get rid of it. Self-doubt and self-consciousness have been my constant companions for many, many years, and I'm finding it hard to kick that attitude to the curb. Can anyone sympathize? Or empathize? How do you deal with your frustration and fears surrounding post-op weight loss? Did any of you lose this slowly? Thank you in advance for any advice/comfort.

Grateful, blessed, but NOT losing weight.
Cervidae replied to meyouus's topic in Gastric Bypass Surgery Forums
I feel your pain, as I'm having a similar experience! Though I'm only a month out (1 month today, actually), I've only lost 17 pounds and I'm super disappointed, even though I have had several NSVs. Stalls are normal, unfortunately, but it seems to me that even though you aren't losing pounds, you're gaining your health. And that's really, really good! -
Two Week Post-Op Update! =)
Cervidae replied to LoggedOutForGood's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Congratulations! I'm so glad that your hard work is paying off for you! The first couples weeks are always tough, but it gets better and better. I'm a month post op today, and I feel just fine! You'll get there too, and soon. Keep up the good work and take amazing care of yourself. p.s. - super impressed and envious of your 20 pound loss. I've lost 17 pounds... in 4.5 weeks. >.< -
I agree with Toasty, consult your doctor or nutritionist. As for my plan, I try to eat three times a day, though it is still hard sometimes, and each meals must be 1/2 cup (4 ounces) or less. I also still drink a protein shake every day to boost my protein. I sent you other stuff in private messages, hope that helps.

Meds to stay away from forever?

When in doubt, consult your surgeon or bariatric office! Sorry I can't be more helpful lol. -
Welcome, Tyra! I'm Abby. I had my gastric bypass on August 17th, almost a month ago now. Feel friend to friend me or message me if you need anything.

I'm 4 weeks out and I'm terrified of this happening. I think I will probably peel any fruit or veggie I try.

How do you time your supplements?
Cervidae replied to red37's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I take a multi, an antacid, an iron/folic acid/b12 supplement, and calcium in the morning. in the evening I take birth control, krill oil, another multi, and a biotin tablet. I've never had any problems, except when I was accidentally taking the wrong kind of calcium, which made me dump. >.> -
New foods tried after surgery...
Cervidae replied to Trayjay33's topic in Gastric Bypass Surgery Forums
It's super easy. Just toss chickpeas, a bit of olive oil, a bit of lemon juice, some fresh garlic, a pinch of salt and pepper in your food processor or blender and blend until smooth. -

I like making my own hummus. It's super easy and way better for you than the prepared stuff. -
Yes, I did about a week ago! I stretched while laying on my side, sleeping, and I felt a similar sensation. Then I had pain for about a day when I moved, breathed, or yawned. Then it just went away and I have felt fine since then. Monday will be 4 weeks post op for me. Hope you're doing well!
