    Anxiety

It could be hormonal imbalances. I have always had depression and anxiety but I've been completely out of control since surgery 8 weeks ago. Sudden extreme bouts of depression and random panic attacks... not fun. My surgeon tells me it's almost certainly hormone craziness, and eventually my body will stabilize, hopefully enough that my issues will be more manageable. Right now, I'm basically nonfunctional. :/

How quickly did you lose weight?

I lost very slowly my first several weeks too. Now I'm 8 weeks out and suddenly 40 pounds are gone. I understand that feeling of wanting it to just melt off instantly, especially after seeing the insanely fast loss some people experience. But trust me, even though it doesn't really seem like it, in 6 months you will be AMAZED at how much is gone. Keep your chin up.
  3. I'd be worried if you said that changing a lifetime of bad habits is easy! It's so hard to give up the awful food, even for a short while, and we're trying to do it forever. Not only are our bodies literally addicted to these foods, but most of us (I know I did) use food as a coping skill to deal with so many things, from everyday stresses to big pains and difficulties in our lives. Giving up a coping skill that has served us and hurt us for so long is a huger fundamental change than most people ever experience in their lifetimes. But look at all the hard and admirable work you've done so far. Any person who has made it to where you are has my complete faith that you will get back on track with the time and effort. The fact that you notice it, want to change it, and have reached out for encouragement goes a long way toward your goal. Good luck, and take care.

    It does gets better

Nice! You look great. Take care.
  5. Woohoo! I get dehydrated so, so easily too. I actually have to drink more than 64 ounces a day. in fact, I usually drink between 75-80 ounces a day, and I really feel crappy if I don't. It's all worth it though! Plus, it's just better for your body and brain to drink a ton of water anyway. Take care.
  6. Our bad food habits are just as strong and just as deadly as, say, heroin. I quit soda 6 months before my surgery because I knew that detoxing the body of sugar and caffeine is an uncomfortable and completely no-fun process. It wasn't as bad as I thought it was going to be. Within 2 or 3 days I felt just fine. As for missing food, I certainly still do. Sometimes I see creamy mac and cheese or a big bowl of ramen and it just looks SO good that I have this pang of regret, like "I'm never going to be eating these foods again... what have I done?!" and then after about 2 seconds of that, the thought and desire passes, and I remember that I've lost 40 pounds in 8 weeks since surgery and my health is wonderful. I still like and crave the foods I used to, but now it's so, so easy to move on from it. You'll do just fine, just keep your head in the game and remember why you are doing this in the first place.
  7. 8 weeks and 40 pounds gone since surgery!

Congratulations! It feels so amazing to be walking around lighter on your feet. Don't know about you but I feel so much more vibrant. Like if the feeling was a color, it would be more towards yellow or orange, than the old grey color I used to feel!

Where are all the single cat ladies?

I'm a cat chick! I have two babies, Sammi and Ian. I have never been without at least one kitty friend, as I think I would go insane without them. Unfortunately, I am also happily taken. You'll find your cat girl. She's out there somewhere right now, petting her cat and watching Netflix, wishing she had a sweet guy in her life who will love her kitties as much as she does.
  10. I use Opurity Calcium citrate plus, Celebrate Multi-complete chewable with Iron, and a B12/folic acid/iron supplement that is prescribed for me by my surgeon's office. I also take Biotin every evening.

    Questions about going #2

It may take some time for your digestive tract to wake back up and begin working properly again. There's also the fact that you are consuming very, very little. Make sure your water intake is as high as you can make it, that may help. Take care of yourself, hope your healing process is speedy and boring.
  17. I was still on liquids when I was a week out but when I started pureed foods at about a week and a half, I was right where you are. I never actually felt a fullness, and could eat my 4 oz of pureed whatever pretty easily. I had the same worries. However, I'm now 7.5 weeks out and I do feel a fullness, sometimes before I've finished my planned meal. Part of the reason you don't feel full yet is because your stomach nerves have been severely traumatized and they aren't actually working well yet, but they will. It's good that you are sticking with the meal plan, just keep doing that and your body will adjust. I was so scared that something was wrong, or that the surgeon somehow didn't shrink my stomach, or some crazy thing, but I feel a lot better about it now that I have healed a fair amount. Hope this helps.

    Sleep

I agree with @@bostongirlforever - a recliner will be a Godsend for you if you're able to sleep in one. I also slept with pillows on either side of me to give me some extra fluff/support, and it helps me not to move around as much as I usually do in my sleep. I'm a side fetal sleeper... you can imagine how annoying it was to be forced to lay straight on my back for a couple weeks. Good luck, feel better!
  20. @@toasty "rectify" ... I see what you did there. XD And for you others in this thread I'm so sorry to hear about your issues, I can only imagine how awful it must feel. I've always been perfectly regular, but since surgery I have experienced a little bit of a back up for basically the first time ever. I find that exercising and then immediately taking a hot bath or shower really, really helps me. Other than that, smooth move tea is really all my tummy can deal with. My NUT tells me that near the end of the month when I can switch to the next phase of food I can start oatmeal, and I already bought the weight control quaker oats, which have more fiber/protein and less sugar than other oatmeals, and I'm hoping that little bit of bulk will help. I also noticed a marked improvement when I raised my Water intake from 60-ish ounces a day to 75-80. HUGE help, even though it's above the "recommended" water intake. Try it out, I hope some of this stuff helps you! Feel better.
  21. I had the RNY but I am very curious about whatever your findings may be. Good post.

    12 days post op and...

Hello! Just wanted to say that your stomach nerves are still healing from a major trauma, so while you may not feel it, I can almost certainly guarantee that you are actually full. I had a similar feeling in the beginning and I now rarely feel hungry and can tell right away when it's time to stop. Hope this helps.
  23. Cervidae

    Starving

Your stomach is still healing from a huge trauma, so the nerves haven't really started working again. So even though it feels like you can eat more or you want to eat more, try to stick to the plan. I still sort of felt hunger in the beginning but oddly enough now I rarely do and it's super manageable when I do. Good luck, take care of yourself.
  24. 7 weeks post op today, and 37 pounds down. :)

I see you @ Cervidae, nice work. Great start. That's 20 pounds a month.

  25. I actually had a similar situation. I'm 23, so my last doctor was a pediatrician, and I hadn't actually seen her in years. I got a new pcp pretty much right when I had my first seminar, and we basically discussed my history and filled out the required paperwork together. What they really need is a doctor to say "yes, this patient is telling the truth, and I've signed off on it." So it was basically our second appointment ever and she just let me fill some things out and she filled out the rest. I don't know if it will work this way for you but that's my experience.
