  1. So far, I've tried most of the hot chocolate flavors (amaretto is the absolute best, the rest are delicious as well), beef bouillon (great for a salty craving, tastes really good), chicken Soup with Pasta (not a fan of this one, tastes too protein-y for me), beef soup with pasta (really good, not protein-y at all). I have the cheese steak pasta entree as well and I'm really looking forward to trying that.

    Hi everyone

it is completely normal to be anxious before, during, and after surgery. It's an enormous change we go through, both internally and externally. Our entire lives change. I'd be worried if you weren't at least a little nervous. Just take a deep breath, research EVERYTHING, follow your plan, and talk to people when you need to. Don't be afraid to ask questions and reach out for help. This time is all about you, and getting yourself healthy. Feel free to friend or message me whenever.

    Happy days

Congratulations! I hit my 100 pound mark from my heaviest just last week. It's a completely surreal, amazing feeling, isn't it. Keep up the fantastic work.

Congrats! Take it easy and take good care of yourself.
  6. I'm about 2.5 months post op, down 54 pounds since surgery and over 100 overall, and I have had no complications. The few people in my life I have told are all super kind and supportive, as well as encouraging. My boyfriend has not only lovingly taken care of me during recovery and the huge changes I'm going through, but has changed his whole lifestyle to adapt to my new healthier one, and he's lost about 30 pounds himself and is off a med that gave him awful side effects. My mom cried when she saw me for the first time in a month, and hugged me hard with a huge smile on her face, because of how much I have changed and how much healthier every aspect of my life has already become. My support group at the hospital is awesome, the people are sweet, understanding, and informative. My bariatric team was fantastic and the checkups have been just as great. I truly have nothing to complain about and everything to be amazingly happy about. I consider myself incredibly lucky and blessed.

    Bypass and sugar addiction

Actually from my highest I'm down 106 pounds. Something must be weird about the stats you're seeing. But thank you! All the hard work pays off in the end.

Can You Stop at “Just One?”

my craving foods are pasta - mainly ramen noodles and mac and cheese, both of which are absolutely awful for you. In the past, I never could just have one bite, and then after having 5, I would feel so bad about myself that I would eat ten, and so on. I didn't eat most of the famous "junk foods" like chips, pizza, cookies, etc. But the foods I did eat, I binged on. I've had a few of my old salt/pasta cravings since surgery, but thankfully they are like quiet echoes of what I used to experience. They usually are just a passing thought of "man, that sounds/looks/smells good, I wish i could eat it" and then they are gone. If on rare occasion the craving doesn't go away, having a small amount of a healthy substitute always works for me, like chicken soup flavored protein powder, or the beef bouillon from the BP store (which has been a savior for me in terms of satisfying cravings). In retrospect, I'm really very lucky that substituting healthy things works for me. And just lucky in general during this whole journey.
  10. It will hit you much harder, yes, but the primary reason surgeons don't want their patients drinking for a year or longer is because we are very vulnerable to transfer addictions right now. Someone with alcoholic tendencies can easily be pushed into full on alcoholism if they use it to soothe themselves during this crucial time while we are learning to give up food. So I guess my thoughts are that if you want 1 drink and you are sure you can have that one drink and be happy with it, then by all means, have fun. If you worry that it could become a problem for you or if it has been in the past, maybe give it some more consideration. It would be so sad to go through all this hard work just to develop an addiction and have your life fall apart because of it.
  11. I am about 2.5 months post op, and I had some stomach problems too, and I also started probiotics about 5 days ago. It seems to be helping me. The antibiotics they use during and after surgery are hardcore and it's very common to have your gut biome screwed up from it. Hope you feel better soon!

    Bypass and sugar addiction

part of the reason it helps with sugar addictions is that you simply cannot eat foods with significant amounts of sugar in them without getting sick. for some lucky people, that restriction will continue forever, or for a long time. For most people, it only lasts a few months. Regardless, just being forced to forgo sugar for a while helps your body to kick the habit. I find that not only does my body reject bad foods, but I just don't crave them anymore. it's a tool in that it gives you a really great head start in making huge changes in your life, the ones that need to happen if you wish to get healthy and stay there. I think you, like many people, will find that you are stronger than you think when given the chance and ability to prove it.

    Hello

The day of surgery I was 387. When I started the program I was 402. My highest ever weight was 442. Monday will be 12 weeks since my RNY, and I'm now 335. I've got a long way to go but I feel great, and I've worked so, so hard to get here.
  14. my bariatric center makes it a regular practice to take the gallbladder during surgery unless it would be a health risk to do so. There are just far too many instances of problems that arise after bariatric surgery from the gall bladder. Luckily, or somewhat unluckily, I had bad stones last year and had it taken out, so I was completely healed when I had my rny in August.
  15. Swishing with coconut oil every night for about 20 minutes gave me really good results really quickly. Within just a couple days I noticed my teeth were significantly whiter and my face cleared up. That's the only thing on your list I've tried.
  16. Trying out a Quest Pumpkin Pie protein bar right now, and it's absolutely delicious!

Those are good. If you have a place that carries the seasonal think thin bars, their pumpkin spice tastes even better. Not as much protein and a couple grams more sugar, but amazeballs! I found it at Kroger, for 1.00.

  17. I had rny on 8/17 as well, and I'm down about 52 pounds. My exercise has been limited due to a knee injury, which is what's holding me back, I suspect. Still, 52 pounds in less than 3 months is nice, and I'm not complaining. I get tired really easily but all in all I'm doing really well.
  18. I have no pain anywhere and can tolerate most foods I have tried, though to be fair, I'm still very careful about what I eat. My hormones are crazy too still. I get depressed or very emotional at the drop of a hat for absolutely no reason. I've lost about 52 pounds since surgery. The only thing that even reminds me that I had surgery is how tired I get, and so easily. My bloodworka was normal, so most likely it a part of the hormone and metabolism thing, and everything is still a little out of whack. But generally, my life is returning to normal.

    Pain, pain, and more pain!

There are several things they could be, ranging from very normal incision soreness that will clear up soon to serious internal issues that you may need medical assistance to take care of. Have you talked to your surgeon's office, or seen your doctor?
  20. You've come to the right place. I'm 11.5 weeks out, doing well. How have things been for you so far?

    Fatigue, mental confusion?

I would reach out to your nutritionist, and if she can't figure it out, perhaps your surgeon. Do you restrict carbs? Some people need carbs to function but try to eat little to no carbs daily.
