  1. Unfortunately, with any medical procedure, there is always going to be a chance that something will go wrong. That's just the nature of the beast. However, statistically speaking, most people have zero complications or only have small ones that go away after a time. The chances of major complications are very, very small and the experience of the wls medical professional community has greatly increased even just in the last few years. Only you can decide if the small chance of complications is worth the huge chance of success and health. For me, it was my fear of complications vs. my hatred of my meds, my knowledge that I will die in a painful and humiliating way, and probably soon, if I did nothing to manage my body, and my intense desire to have my life back and live in a way that I want. There was no contest and no anxiety once I weighed those two things. I regret absolutely nothing about getting my RNY and I'm betting you wouldn't either, but if you honestly think that your fears of the possible complications are stronger than your desire for the good things that come from wls, then don't do it. It's your body. I wish you the best of luck in your decision.
  2. I had this issue as well. I'm almost 3.5 months out, and I noticed suddenly a week or so ago I no longer have that uncomfortable/pain/nauseous feeling whenever I eat or drink anything. I had sort of just accepted it was going to keep happening and now it only happens every couple of days. If it gets worse or worrisome, consult a doctor, but most likely you will feel better soon.
  3. In case some of you out there have an Instagram and would like to connect with my new page on which I will be posting progress pictures, snapshots of foods/drinks that work well with an RNY lifestyle, and more: https://www.instagram.com/belly.laugh/ I look forward to making new friends. :)

  4. @@Ashlegal thanks very much! I love mellie may, and I will definitely check out your other recommendation. I'm not brave enough to "come out" to most of my friends and family but I find coming out to strangers to be empowering and inspiring. But I appreciate the compliment. Hope you had a lovely thanksgiving.

    Emotional

It's hormones. Totally normal, though frustrating. It will pass. hang in there.
  6. Yesterday, I stepped on the scale and was slightly chagrined to find that I was still 1 pound away from a big milestone, as I had been for the past almost 2 weeks. Today I woke up and I lost two pounds overnight, which officially puts me 101 pounds less than my heaviest weight ever, which was around this time last year. It's a surreal feeling, mainly because I still have such a looong way to go, and I can hardly remember what it felt like to be a hundred pounds heavier than this. This time last year, I felt hopeless, worthless, and like I would never feel good about myself again. I was prepared, at age 22, to die young and humiliated because I felt like I had no control over my body whatsoever. I was seeing a nutritionist and a PCOS specialist and they were at a loss for how to help me. Now, 1 year later, 101 pounds are simply... gone. What an amazing life this is! I'm so grateful to everyone here for being so kind and supportive. It wasn't long ago that I didn't even dare to dream that I could get better AND that I could have a whole huge support group to help me along the way. You guys and this site are just as important and helpful to me as my support group, bariatric center, and my kickass surgeon. In the attached pictures, the first one is the only picture I could find of myself before I lost any significant amount of weight (that's my monkey of a little cousin demonstrating that he is a monkey, haha) and the second two I took just now. Thank you.

    It's an emotional day.

Just wanted to let you all know - it's been several weeks since this post and I'm now at 122 pounds gone since my highest. thanks for all your encouragement!
  8. That super frustrating moment when you've lost over a hundred pounds but you are still quite plus size, and nothing fits but new clothes are super expensive because you are still in high sizes... and it's winter so you're freezing your new, smaller butt off. >.<

You've had a couple of good suggestions already. I'll add that, if you stick to the "classic"/basic/simple styles at stores like Penney, the lower quality isn't always so noticeable and the prices are not irritating.

do you have thrift stores nearby? I've found a few items that I was able to either alter or make do. If you sew or know someone who does, maybe they can take in the items to buy you some time. Plus no need to have a full wardrobe until you reach goal size. It would be great if there were a local clothing exchange as well, where someone losing weight would donate clothes and be able to take some without exchange of money.

I'm still plus size so I understand. I've been making due by altering a few things like skirt with elastic waist that I have just shortened the elastic on. I was a bit of a shoaholic so I have clothes in my closet all the way down to a 16 and I'm enjoying wearing them afain as many were designer things. I bought a few dress but just inexpensive Old Navy dresses for under $10 when they are onsale. Other than that I limit my new clothing purchases to gym clothes.

    Question about Probiotics

Many things can affect your gut biome - the surgery itself, the antibiotics, the drastic weight loss, the hormonal imbalances, the big change in diet, the list goes on. Probiotics aren't mandatory at my bariatric center but when I asked about it they said it would be a good idea. My digestion has been much better since I started.

    Anxiety

@@cjd2010 Yes, I do. I've always had anxiety but it's so difficult now. I am seeing a therapist but I wanted to wait until at least january before I start back on anti-anxiety medication. It's our hormones, they're wacky. :/

  17. That is completely insane! So sorry this crackpot moron got his mitts on your insides but really glad you got some answers! I wish you tons of luck in having it fixed. Sue that freaking terrible surgeon, he should not be allowed to do this to other people. What about your girlfriend? She has some similar issues right? Could she possibly get checked out as well?

    Feel sick all the time

@@cjd2010 i know it's hard in the beginning. I felt so much like that for the first couple of months, and recently (like the past two weeks or so) I suddenly don't feel exhausted randomly, or dizzy, or any of the other things I was feeling. upping your water intake will help a LOT. 64 ounces is the minimum, and people rarely get that much. but for heavier people and people who have had wls, we need far more than that. I actually used a water intake calculator to see how much I should be drinking at 320 pounds and it's 1.7 gallons (217 ounces). No way can I get all that in, but damn it if I haven't been trying! Since getting more water in, I feel much better. Hang in there.

    Coffe

Actually, it varies person by person, and surgeon by surgeon. Some surgeons say "no caffeine ever again" and some allow a cup of coffee per day at 6 months out, and some allow only decaf, etc. My surgeon basically said she can't stop me, but highly recommends I stay away from it for at least several months more. My body is going through huge changes, and getting all my Water in is already difficult, and coffee dehydrates you. Fortunately I've never been much of a coffee person. But still, make sure you ask your surgeon.

    Feel sick all the time

Most people have that "OMG WHAT HAVE I DONE" phase where everything is difficult and it feels like far more pain and effort than it is worth. Speaking as someone who is a little over three months out, I promise you, it will get better. Most likely very soon. Your body has been through an enormous trauma and it's still reeling from that. Give yourself and it some time to adjust and heal. Keep thinking about why you did this in the first place. Try to stay positive.

    Body aches?

sounds like you may be dehydrated, not getting in enough Protein, have a Vitamin deficiency, or some combination of those. are you following the plan carefully? have you had blood work recently to check your vitamin levels?
