Looking to hear from anyone who had the sleeve with a BMI of 30 or less
sa11yb replied to Scottyd1264's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I gained a lot of weight after the band was removed. I still continued with the nutritionist at the surgeons office. I did the diet pill route for a while, lost a few lbs but was never able to lose like with the band. Finally after my last weight gain when my BMI got up to 30, my surgeon resubmitted, and with a peer review was able to get approval. I had over 40 visits to the nutritionist with records of weight gain and loss etc. -

Me. My BMI was right at 30 when I had the sleeve. I had my band removed in 2013 due to complications and it took me 2 years to get insurance to cover the sleeve. -

Sleeved 10/26 - trouble consuming protein shakes
sa11yb replied to steph_anie's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Be patient, it takes time to get used to your new stomach. Like the others said, you just need to carefully experiment with other Proteins until you find one that works. I was sleeved on Sept 8. New stomach hated any of the sweet Protein drinks. I ended up using Unflavored unjury in tomato Soup in order to get some in. The hardest part for me was to mentally get over not finishing my Protein Drink and not finishing the food on my plate. I know I NEVER got the Dr. recommended amount of protein in as new stomach said no way. You will be fine, even if you go to some pureed foods a bit early in very tiny amounts. The good news is it does get better, your new stomach will be able to handle a bit of protein drink as time goes on and other foods. Good luck to you. -
Those of you 1 month out, how do you feel now?

I too get stomach aches with anything I eat. I switch up my liquids, sometimes Vitamin Water Zero and other times water etc. I was sleeved on Sept 8. I feel really good, been good with getting my exercise in daily. -

Gabbisha, when did you have your surgery? I had mine on the 8th and have the same issues. No matter how slow or small the portion size is.

For my unjury, I use an immersion blender, and it mixes fine. I know you can get clumping issues if mixing into hot liquids. I premix my Protein into my soup with the blender then heat it up and haven't had any clumping issues. -

Thanks Imag. Seems the unflavored in something like Tomato Soup makes new tummy happy. I think anything sweet will just not work. -

I got mine done Sept 8 too. I am good with the pain, just taking Tylenol when needed. Still on liquid diet but new tummy is proving to be VERY picky about what it likes Protein wise. I can no longer tolerate any sweet Protein drinks, no Nutrimed, nothing. Makes new tummy hurt badly. New tummy hates flavored Water too. Thankfully I had some unflavored unjury protein and put that in some tomato Soup. So far, new tummy is happy with it. -

I agree, Pindoctor, call the insurance and ask if they have any questions or issues with what was submitted. Years ago when I had my Lapband, I called the insurance and asked if they had any questions and someone actually called me back. I was able to clarify what they had questions about and was approved quickly after that. Keep you chin up, you are almost there

Wassef is correct, the high Protein pre-op diet is to shrink your liver. Every surgeon is different as to what they prefer. At this pre-op stage, if I had to do Protein drinks 3x a day for 2 weeks, I would be pretty darn hangry lol.
-
Wow, I am on 2 Protein Shakes a day and am allowed 1 light meal like lean chicken breast and green Beans. Oh I can have string cheese for a snack too. Off the caffeine, 1 cup green tea in morning then Water rest of day

It might be as it is covered by my employer. If you don't have a copy of your medical policy, try setting up an account on their site using your insurance card info to see what is covered. https://www.southcarolinablues.com
