  1. Tink, side bar. Dude, congrats on your loss! I hope it feels as good as it looks! Keep it up man! Ok, sorry to sidetrack this thread, back to your previously scheduled program!
  2. Not necessarily a veteran, but I didn't notice any hair loss. I have short thin hair so you can see in some spots its thinner than in others. I was worried that I would lose or at least thin what little I had, but I can say that my hair stayed and it even looks better now. Not sure if this is really the cause, but I blame it on all the protein. Now 10 months out and loving life! I was going to try biotin but never got around to it. Best of luck!
  3. I haven't been active on this site for a bit. Been busy riding my bike!

Thanks Kathy! I have been riding to work. It's about 13 miles each way. I did it one day last week and I rode again yesterday and today. 2 in a row was rough. I may gave to space them out a bit, my motor is running on empty. I burn 2200 calories a day riding to and from work. Its about 50min each way. such a great workout.

    Post-Workout Recovery

Thanks @Indieflickers. I have started taking BCAAs after my workout, along with my usual isopure Protein drink. I just started so I haven't noticed a big change yet, but I do seem to be able to go more days in a row with lifting vs. waiting for a day or more to recover.
  6. I am coming up on my 6 month mark since surgery. Tonight I am going to make myself a steak dinner. Literally just steak. But it will be the best steak ever. I have missed it the most. Just coming off a month of 0 weight loss with a week of an 8 pound gain, only to drop another 10 in the last 5 days. Watch your meds and fluids folks.

    Post-Workout Recovery

Thanks for the great response, Alex! I have been good about getting my protein directly before and after. I did not know about the carbs. I am still struggling with the fact good carbs are ok. I probably get less than 150g of carbs a day. I eat a 20g Protein Bar before a workout and then a 20oz. Bottle of Isopure with 40g protein, but zero carb. Then maybe some yogurt and granola or eggs and cheese about an hour later. I will try adding the bread and peanut butter. That is a good idea. That will also help with Fiber too. My loss has slowed down dramatically but my body is still changing size and structure. I appreciate the kind words of encouragement.

    Post-Workout Recovery

I looked through the Fitness and Exercise posts for something specific but didn't find any info. I am wondering about Post-Workout Recovery. Specifically, how to maximize the recovery, efficiently. If I do something that makes many muscles sore for 2-3 days, I am looking for a way to shorten that time down to 2 days or less. In this specific case, I am not lifting weights, so I can't lesson the lift, or the reps. It was a group workout doing things like bosu ball pushups and bosu ball plank jacks, mountain climbers, assisted pull-ups, russian twists with 10# med balls, one legged squats and a bunch of boxing bag punching. I waited the usually day before working out again, but my fri morning workout suffered because I wasn't 100% from wednesdays workout. Any ideas? I am looking into adding amino acids. I already get about 110g Protein throughout the day.
  9. I finally had to buy new jeans. I have been wearing my 52" waist jeans the past 4.5 months since surgery. I just keep adding holes to my belt and it wraps around my side, almost to my back. Well, I noticed the other day that the pants really look bad in the back where they bunch together and I don't have a butt to fill the seat of the jeans. I was pleasantly surprised to find that, I am now a size 42" jeans. Heck yes!

I love clothes shopping now. Use to find it so depressing. My husband keeps threatening to take my debit card.

    Salmon Recipes Please!

I would love to know how to smoke salmon without a smoker! Please do share! While the results would differ slightly, you can smoke it on a grill or even in the oven. I have a smoker so its a little easier for me. I would suggest the grill if you don't have a smoker. You can turn on one or two burners and get the internal temp around 200-225, try to stay below 250. Then you need some wood chips and a wood chip box, like this one http://www.homedepot.com/p/Weber-Stainless-Steel-Smoker-Box-7576/203124250?cm_mmc=Shopping%7CTHD%7CG%7C0%7CG-BASE-PLA-D28I-Grills%7C&gclid=CImDtqjVkMoCFQgKaQodG68AGQ&gclsrc=aw.ds You'll need about 2 hours for it to cook. I am using a recipe that you make a slurry out of pickling salt, brown sugar and crab boil seasoning and a little Water to mix it all up. You let it sit covered in that slurry sealed in plastic wrap, overnight, then wipe off the slurry and let it sit on your counter, with a fan on it for an hour to 2 hours, till it is sticky to the touch. Then you can smoke it. Its tedious, and there are a few places I have bought some that is outstanding. Its expensive because of how much time goes into it, but it is so worth it. Thanks! I typically buy it smoked already but love all smoked meats so I've been wanting to learn how to do it myself The best way is to get an electric smoker. Its so easy and you can smoke anything

    Salmon Recipes Please!

SMOKED! Smoked Salmon is the most amazing thing. It works really well for a snack, a lunch, but mostly I use it in scrambled eggs with some cheese. Nothing better. I am going to be smoking a big piece this weekend and will post the recipe and pics!

    Cold all the time?

Yeah, happens to me too. I was always sweaty sitting down in a chair with shorts and a t shirt. Now I freeze with two long sleeve t shirts on. I like to layer so I welcome it for the most part, but in the mornings, outside, my hands and face just freeze. I have to keep a space heater on my desk at work.
