  1. Not sure what your surgeons plan allows, but mine says no caffeine till 6 months and no pop, diet or other, ever again. The issue with the caffeine is that it can cause ulcers. Give it a little time, if you can. Best of luck.
  2. Yep! The Popsicles and Jello were my heroes! You can have as much of that as you want. Quick enough, you'll be sick of them.
  3. Exact same thought crossed my mind shortly after surgery. I was hungry a lot and I would follow my instructions but it never seemed like it was working right. I was scared that it didn't work for me. But it did, and it got better. Keep following the plan and it will fall into place. As for the stall, pay no mind. It picks up and next thing you know, you're down 25lbs. Stay away from the scale. It's hard, and everyone will tell you not to weigh yourself too often right now. If you do weigh yourself, be prepared for anything. Could be 0 change, a few pounds gained or lost, but it will work!
  4. Congratulations! Amazing new life!
  5. One of my first meals when I was allowed Turkey, Chicken, Pork and Fish, was a Turkey Burger on the grill. No bun, with melted American cheese, sautéed peppers and onions with a couple pickle slices and some garlic mayo. I ate about 1/3 of a small patty. It was the most amazing thing I had in my mouth in over a month. The second best was the chicken cheddar garlic sausage with peppers and onions. Won't be too much longer @@Dub!
  6. I will add: If you are smoking meat and using a rub, watch the sugar content. I have found that there is a brown sugar that is half stevia and half brown sugar so it has less sugar. I also have packets of Stevia in the Raw, but have yet to see how they work in a rub. Not sure about grilling/smoking with artificial sweeteners.

    Sunday Morning Hike

    From the album: After

Took my Daughter out for a morning hike. She likes to help Dad get his steps in!
  8. I am a lover of all things grilled/smoked. Happy to say that after 6 weeks, I was able to have pork, chicken and fish. I still love smoked foods. I was never much of a drinker, so I cannot comment on that. I involve smoked salmon and smoked pork tenderloin in my diet frequently. Last night I made turkey chili and as a replacement for naturally smoked meat, I used liquid smoke when sautéing the onions and peppers for the chili. Made a huge difference. Everyone loved the chili and it was all within my plan. I must say, smoked salmon added to scrambled eggs with some gruyere is my most favorite breakfast. Love me some protein!
  9. Keep it up! I remember thinking how hard it was at the time. Looking back it doesn't seem like it was that bad. You are doing good by keeping yourself busy. I went through a lot of sugar free jello and popsicles before surgery also. Not sure if they are approved on your plan or not, but they helped me get through a few days of fixing my bad munching habits.
  10. Thanks! Something like that could help. Yes, I am. I'm also pissy when people are rude and don't read what's written before writing a condescending response. Horrible experience on this forum so far. Thanks for your input, I really do appreciate it. Clearly your bad experience is the result of everyone but you. Funny that, I have never had one bad conversation here. I guess its all in your perspective.
  11. I'm confused about where I said I wasn't going to listen to my doctor. This did not answer my question whatsoever and instead came off as overwhelmingly condescending. Totally understood. I never once said I wasn't taking in my fluids or protein and never said I wasn't going to listen to my doctor. In fact, I said I'm talking to my doctor tomorrow. I understand I have to do what they say to be healthy. Please re-read and see if you want to respond again to what I actually asked. Please forgive me. I see you have you all under control. As I said, best of luck to you.
  12. I'll be the first, but not last to say: Follow the plan your surgeon gave you. Rather than trying to find shortcuts, take the time to follow the directions and change some of your old habits. It doesn't happen in 5 days. Best of luck.

since we are in the guys room....

Just stumbled across this thread. I was looking for questions about libido. I was always a very ready male, could go several times per week if it was available. Now 9 weeks post op and down almost 80lbs., I seriously want to go non stop. Like hard core. The answer about the release of testosterone from our fat loss seems to make sense to me. I thought I was just crazy. I do hope it levels out.

    Expectations

Today I went to Chipotle for the first time. It was good. I had a chicken bowl with just a little rice, Black Beans, Salsa, cheese. I ate about 1/6th of it.

When were you cleared to eat out? I was told i can do regular foods but im scared. I don't think there is an official "clear" date on that. I think it has more to do with finding places that have foods you are cleared for. I was cleared for soft foods at like week 5. So I could have cooked chicken or pork or fish, Beans, cooked veggies. At that point, I could technically eat out, as long as I found foods I could have. The choices for eating out grew as I could add more foods. I am now not in any "phase" and can have most everything except Corn, Popcorn, Caffeine, Wild Rice, which is all 6 months, per my surgeon.

    Best before & After photo!

I was the same way @Elode. I am the family photographer, because I didn't belong on that side of the camera. Thats changing now. I can already see such a difference.

    Update on my dilemma

I would say that 6 months is not too long to save that kind of Money. My original comment to you in another post said to do it since you were going to anyway. But now that you have a timeline and the possibility is there to save that money, I would absolutely let the ins pay for it. Maybe you can pass the 6 months by making small changes to help you post op? Also, that $$$$$ would be a great way to celebrate some significant loss with a nice vac a for you and the mrs. Tough call man. Money is money. You can always make more. Wow. I can't imagine having to make this call!
  18. Ugh! Twice this week, my mind overruled my drive and my body. Alarm goes off, mind shuts it off instead of snooze. Tragically I don't get my workout in. Dammit!

      Elode

Well that happens to me every day of the week ending "day".

    Sad Day

You will come out the other side a new person. It's scary right now, but in the blink of an eye, you will no longer remember this feeling of despair. You will feel accomplished, strong and ready for a new serious relationship. Good luck to you. It's always easier from an outside perspective. We are not invested in that relationship so it is easy for us to say it will be fine, while harder for you to believe it. Work on you, the rest will fall into place.

    9round?

How many times a week do you go? There is one by my house and they are opening one by where I work. I have seen that the sometimes offer a 3 month membership through groupon that makes it much cheaper. My thought is that I will get one of those groupons to use 9round for 3 months and see how good I can do. My gym membership is only 12/month and I can hold it for up to 6 months if I want. I will probably try 9round for a short time and see if it works as well as it looks like it does.

    9round?

There is one about to open by my work. I am super pumped to go try it. I have been working hard in the gym to get a little lighter on my feet and get my breathing under control so when this place opens I can take advantage of it. I feel like with their workouts, the weight will literally melt off of me onto their floor.

    Fitness Tracker

I have a Garmin Vivoactive. I love it. I have yet to use it in the pool, but it has a swim tracking function as well as walking, running and other cool stuff. I was torn between the Vivoactive and the 920xt. Vivoactive won because it was half the cost of the 920xt.
  25. @@BrightEyes529 - Yeah, sometimes you will check the scale and nothing, other times you will be surprised how much has dropped. I find that if I don't see much change in a couple days, I will wait a week or so then check again. Hope you are recovering well!
