H Everyone! I'm 12 days post op and my recovery (RNY) is going well. I am currently at Stage 3 and am tolerating foods well. I have a question that I am hoping others can help me with. I constantly feel hungry even after eating/drinking. Is this normal? I am eating Soups, yogurt (no chunks). I have been drinking mostly Protein shakes (Carnation Instant Breakfast NSA) and drinking Water or Powerade Zero. I am able to eat 4 oz at a time with no issues and could possible eat more but I do not. From what I am reading from others, 4 oz at a time seems like a lot. I am sticking to the foods at my stage for the most part (I had a spoonful of rice the other day which I chewed like 30 times before swallowing). How much liquid is everyone getting in at a time? I take four sips max at a time but feel like I could take more. How long do you wait between sips? I guess my concern is that my pouch is bigger than it should be. I dont know how the mechanics of all this works so I plan on broaching this with my PA when I have my post op appt on Wednesday. Any feedback/insight from others is appreciated. TIA! :-)

Surgery is tomorrow (gastric bypass)!
Fullsteamahead posted a topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
So the big day is tomorrow! I am excited and nervous at the same time. The former because I know how much my life will change as a result and the latter because I'm afraid of being put under! I have to go to the hospital at 6:30am and the actual procedure will start at 8:30am. I should be making preparations and getting things ready but I am literally lounging in my bed as I type this (hey, those other things can wait right?) I decided to take 2 weeks off of work but am able to take more time if needed. I have some friends that will alternate sleeping over the first week to make sure I am okay. My mom is an RN and my sister is an NP and they both live next door to me (literally) so I'll have support during my recovery. I started this journey in May and it is so incredible to think that my day is finally here! Will keep you all posted! -
Surgery is tomorrow (gastric bypass)!

Hi everyone! Thanks so. Yah for the well wishes. I am writing this from my hospital bed as we speak! I experienced a complication with my surgery that required me to visit the OR twice! After the initial bypass, I could not stop spitting up blood. My surgeon felt that the volume of blood was enough to warrant another visit the the OR. During the 2nd visit, they were able to reinforce the connection between my intestine and my pouch. To say that I was terrified during this ordeal would be an understatement things. Luckily for me, the 2nd surgery resolved the issue I was experiencing. The downside is that my discharge date has been pushed ahead to Saturday (it was originally Friday). I realize that I am in good hands and am being monitored very closely. Pain wise things haven't been that bad. I am on Dilotin and have access to a med button which administers the drug at timed intervals. Having had 3 cesarean sections, the pain this time around actually mirrors that of my c-sections. It's not unbearable pain but it is tolerable in my opinion. Please let me know if there are questions you have about my experience. Reading the Guide to Bypass" was actually very helpful, especially the bits on what to bring to the hospital. For me, Chapstick has been essential as well as a good book (I am not a big TV watcher). -
Surgeon trying to convince me to do the sleeve instead of RNY
Fullsteamahead posted a topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Hello Everyone! Newbie from Massachusetts here! I just returned from my last pre-op behavioral and nutritional appt and was cleared by both! Super exciting except that I got a call from the office stating that my surgeon wanted to meet with me this week to "make sure" I was sure about proceeding with RNY. Mind you, I met with her back in May to discuss the pros and cons of each procedure and I made it clear I wanted the RNY. She told me that since I have no co-morbidities the sleeve might be a better option for me. I told her I was still leaning towards RNY and would let her know if I changed my mind. Admittedly, I'm a but perplexed by her wanting to meet with me to be "sure" that this is the route I want to go. What does it mean? Is she just doing her due diligence as a surgeon and I am over reacting? Has anyone had this happen to them? FYI, I was told that I would be able to have my surgery this month which I am pleased by. However, this impromptu meeting with the surgeon has me questioning my decision to pursue RNY. I've done extensive research on both options and feel the RNY is a better choice for me. Any advice or insight is appreciated. -
Surgeon trying to convince me to do the sleeve instead of RNY

I have no medical issues, aside from being obese. I'm 35 and do not take any medications. This was a bit of a red flag for me as well but I wanted to put the question out to forum in case this is a standard practice among surgeons.
