Hi. My name is Nancy M-B. I'm having a sleeve done tomorrow and am looking for support that I can access anywhere. BariatricPal came up as I was searching and seems like just what I was looking for.
I am a retired nurse practitioner, 67 years old. I've had obesity issues since adolescence. I've tried sooo many diets, exercise programs and just pretty much gave up last year after retirement. However, I've had back pain issues for at least 10 years and after a pretty much disastrous fall and early winter, I was desperate to find a method to reduce my pain. I researched this and found that weight loss is a universally recognized way to decrease if not relieve the pain. I had done PT, injections, radiofrequency ablations, TNS unit, bracing. . .you name it, I've used it. It didn't help that in the fall, I adopted a dog that was a beagle/bull mix. She was a sweet dog but I had to take her back due to the effect her pulling on the leash had on my back.
So, to make a long story short, as a new year began, I decided I had to do something. I was up to 209--higher than ever. I had heard of St. Vincent Charity Hospital Bariatric program in Cleveland. I called and started the process of my workup in March.
Since then, I've lost 25 pounds. But I know that if I don't do something different from my past attempts, I will gain it back and more. So tomorrow is the big day. I can't wait to begin the next part of the process. I definitely will be following on BariatricPal. And look forward to reading other people's stories to help me deal with what may come up (no pun intended) after surgery.
