if you've had your band this long there is a problem. don't jump to conclusions and get frightened as it could be a thousand different things. Call your doctor!!!!

Heating pad? Or ice pack?
sharona replied to JRFAN88's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
it really should get better by the 3rd day, if a particular area hurts you more than another you should call the doctor. take your medication!!! that's important as you need to move move move...you're at risk for a blood clot if you're not moving. Also take deep breaths, if they gave you an incentive spirometer use it....it will pass really......hiatel hernia repair shouldn't add that much more discomfort....good luck on your new day of the start of a new life  -
I had my first fill at 5 weeks of 2cc in a 10 cc band then went back two weeks later as I didn't feel restriction, that was last Friday. I was "ok" for a few days but then could eat anything so I was told if it didn't work come back in a few weeks. I have another appt next Friday. I supposedly have 3.5cc in my 10 cc band but really don't feel much. It does depend on the doctor and some doctors let you choose the time until you feel restricted after the first 5-6 weeks of healing is completed. They judge by your hunger and by your weight loss. I'm not dropping tons of weight.....so they filled me again. good luck

thanks Mylah, you're ight, its another day tomorrow!!! I'm so glad I have a doctor who just says look if its not working for you just come back!!! The APRN in the office I see had the lapband surgery himself so it's great to have him care for me as he knows the feeling. For the first three days aftewards I almost thought I was too tight...then boom on the third day I suddenly could eat a horse!!! I've been exercising so that's a good thing. Happy Mother's Day to everyone!!!

Hiatal hernia repair with Lap Band
sharona replied to donnaw725's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I had a small repair done and I was fine. I don't think you'd know about it if they didn't tell you. I feel better in that I no longer have GERD especially at night good luck -

I can't believe what I ate today. I had a second fill one week ago and felt restricted for two days...today I ate scrambled eggs (1) one sausage, half bagel with cream cheese, salad, half chicken breast 2 cups of rice with chicken and 4 peices of chocalate candy. I don't feel much restriction at all!!!! why why can I eat so much...this is the FIRST time that I have had cravings.....I scheduled another fill for next friday because he said if I needed it come back. I am supposed to have 3.5 cc in a 10 cc band.....urgggg I'm so frustrated....the scales are not moving!!!!!

I was banded on 3/12 my first fill was on 4/16 with 2cc in a 10 cc band. I had to go back on 5/2 for a second fill and was told that there was only really 1.5 cc because of air bubbles etc. So he put in 3.5 cc and I had great restriction until Sunday. Now I don't feel much at all. I had Peanut Butter sandiwich and 3 scrambled eggs for dinner without a problem. I read somewhere that sometimes the fills take a few weeks to "kick" in and I don't know why that would be. I scheduled for another fill next Friday which will be 2 weeks again from the last one. I'm hoping I will find my "spot" soon. I've lost 18 lbs since my surgery and 21 lbs all together. Doesn't seem like enough for the exercising I'm doing and the calorie intake I've had. Today was unusual amount of food. Hoping this will kick in soon :cool2::thumbup::biggrin: -
I think this is a personal decision. No one is walking in our shoes or knows the many reasons behind making this decision. Its those same people who judge us for being "fat" that have their own opinions which really mean nothing to me. I have shared with a few and otherwise its my own business. As I am losing weight and people comment I just say I've just been eating better and excercising. That of course is the truth. We don't need any more guilt in our lives!!!! sharon:)

So, are people beginning to "notice"?

Where are you....and what do you do?
sharona replied to HarleyGirl's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
Hi I am Sharon Gauthier I live in Connecticut and have been married for 38 years. I am 57 years old. My husband took early retirement 5 years ago and I have two grown children Fred 33 and Elizabeth 29. We are expecting our first grandchild in September I am a registered nurse and just finished grad school in May of last year in Public Health and Community Nursing. I presently work in a homecare agency as a Clinical Manager of an interdisciplinary team. I have 3 dogs..... Sharon:) -
Cathy I'm so sorry. Being an old ER nurse I feel your struggle. What I've learned from having a very sick husband in the past is that its still important to take care of yourself. This is a vulnerable time for you. We are all struggling with something and certainly this is a good place to put your worries as we all know how we normally cope. Which is how we ended up here in the first place. I will put him in my prayers. Take care sharon

Thanks I didn't look at it that way!!! sometimes I think we should lose at the rate we feel we are "suffering" hahahahaha......I am restricted bettr but still feel like I could eat more. trying to decrease quantity.....I can't believe how many times my mouth opens for food without even thinking!!! Still struggling with waiting that golden hour after eating. That should help. I can't wait unti this time next year!!!

I don't think it has anything to do with the fill. It may have to do with the amount of Fluid your drinking or something else. If it continues you really need to call him. That's not a normal reaction from a fill goodluck sharon:)

every one is different. I had my first fill about two weeks ago and had to go back yesterday for a second fill because I was eating too much. He said that the first fill with air bubbles sometimes isn't the full amount. they had put in 2 cc and he only took out 1.5 yesterdy so he added enough to make 3.5 cc's and I feel good restriction now. I can eat only about half cup at a time. So just wait it out and then you can decide. He told me to come back in a few weeks if I feel that its not working. I have a 10cc band. I feel like I have control now. I was working out 3 times a week with a trainer and walking the other days and only lost 1.5 pounds in two weeks. Not good....so just waitit out...you'll find your place....at least that's what i've seen from others who have written. good luck sharon:)

hello all connecticut banders!!! Well I had my second fill yesterday. It had only been two weeks since my first fill but I was able to eat far too much. Made the right choices but still consumed too much food. I had 2cc put in the first time but they said often with the first one it isn't the full amt that is in there because of bubbles and air. So he was able to see that I only had 1.5 cc and added another two cc's. I feel restricted and hope it lasts. I did lose 1.5 lbs in two weeks but feel like it should be more. I go to the gym every day and have a trainer 3x/week. So ya think I should be down 50lbs already!!!! noooooooooooooo..... I hate the scales!!!! I've decided to stay away from them except for once a week. I'm having my husband hide them. I'm becoming obsessive about it and its driving me crazy!!! So I have another appt in 4 weeks but he said if I don't feel good restriction come back in a few weeks. He was so kind and understanding. My doctor has a new APRN working with him who has had the band surgery. So he understands!!! Hope everyone is doing well. I just want to lost this fat!!! I'm sick sick sick of it..... Great...Now I feel better Sharon:)

what is NSV???
-
well my surgery was 3/12 and my scale isn't moving either. I feel restriction but not a lot I moved my appt up to Friday (10 days earlier than previously planned) to get another fill. I go to the gym 3-4 times a week and have a trainer. I do cardio each time...God you think I'd be dropping the lbs!!!! so frustrating....
-
You know that's exactly what my doctor said to me!!! It was the first time I went to a doctor and didn't mind being weighed and knew I wasn't going to be lectured!!! He was so kind as to not mention what my actual weight was in front of my husband (although he knew) and was very respectful of me. Now, isn't that the way it should always be!!! Good luck sharon

Seminar - not so excited now
sharona replied to MargieM's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
Absolutely find another doctor to check out before making a decision. The band is a tool to help control quantity. Although sugar isn't good for you I agree that it is unrealistic to think we'll never have another piece of cake!!! What the band will do is keep you from eating the whole cake instead of a small piece. Don't be discouraged there are lots of physicians out there that are good at this. Find one at a hospital that has a certified bariatric program. Good luck!!! sharon:) -
Nurseamy's tummy tuck/Lipo/Mastopexy
sharona replied to nurseamy's topic in Plastic & Reconstructive Surgery
Amy you give me hope!!! I'm just starting on journey and I look at my horrible stomach and think where will it be in a year from now!!! Was your surgery covered by insurance? I have fabulous coverage with BC/BS but wondered if this is a covered item. I'm also interested in getting a breast reduction although it scares me as to where the "girls" will be in a year from now. This is a much slower process than I thought it would be. You guys are fabulous in encouraging us that there is light (or a belly button) at the end of the tunnel!!!! sharon:thumbup: -
You just need to keep deep breathing no matter how hard it is. Clots normally don't come about this quickly. Move Move Move....there is alot of gas. Each day is better. Keep us posted and hang in there....:crying:

Lap Band with Hiatal Hernia?
sharona replied to Cadets71's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
yes I had a small one that didn't show up in the GI xray but when having my preop appt I signed paperwork that indicated if found he would repair it. He found one and repaired it. No biggie, just means your reflux will be gone..
