Did anyone else get an ON-Q (pain) bag?)
sharona replied to BritneeRae's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I don't think that's a common thing with this surgery. It is very common in orthopedic surgery. The pain in your shoulder is gas pain only to be relieved with walking. Your physician must use the ball to assist with pain management. Hope it helps. sharon (RN/MSN) -
Pat I agree about the fills, its the same for me I think wow I'm theethe first three days then after the third day I can eat much more I can eat a whole sandwich also which I don't think I should be able to. I've lost some weight since the last fill but know I need a little more. I have 5.5 cc in a 10 cc band....so we'll see...we all need to be patient with ourselves...enjoy the weekend guys

How are you setting your Goal weight?
sharona replied to auntlucy's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
I have set mini goals for weight loss...down to 200 lbs by september 13th our wedding anniversary then then novembere then december by january 2009 I want to be down to 169 lbs -
personally I would put off the surgery until after the trip, especially since you'll be out of the country....I think its probably not a worry but I wouldn't want to be in another country with an issue that they may not know about.....and I agree with the other comment, trust me you won't ave a lot of energy....at least for a month or so...don't stress out about it you can do it when you get back really...
-
You can do it Fenton.....!!!! 100 lbs...incredible...think about where you were this time last year!!! it is only a stone's throw away.....:biggrin2::embaressed_smile:
-
just remember you are very tight for about 3 days afterwards, it loosens after that

Hi Chica I was fortunate that my kids didn't like cake, although now that they are adults they have opted for cheesecake on their birthdays. Find some weight watcher cakes to eat with low fat ice cream so you don't feel deprived...and tell your husband he's a big boy he can make his own brownies...he knows what your going through!!! lets show some support here....I couldn't be trusted alone to cook a cake let alone brownies...hang in there this should be a time of celebrating (celebration is so important in life) and not worrying!!!

congratulations Lynn.... what a great feeling!!! Fenton I finally ordered your book, since i have more time in the summer to read. So I can't wait....
-
Well the sclaes finally moved, I've lost 2 lbs..yeah...went to the mall today and wanted pizza soooooo bad, but instead had a salad...then stopped at the store and got skinny cow ice cream sandwiches....they are delicious......hope everyone is doing well

I'm 18lbs from onederland...hope to be there by the fall....OMG I can't believe it....it i slowwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwww but consistent.........congratulations to everyone:thumbup:

Fenton you are the backbone of this blog...thank you so much for taking the time to respond to me. Someone suggested skinny cow and I'm going to try that. And yes I've decided to take another route home from my saturday job so I won't be tempted to go to dairy queen. Your right it is the worst choice. I have bought more fruit this week and will have it with me in the car and at all times so I'm not tempted. Thanks again for the support....you guys are the best. :grouphug:

Sammey try to get back to your physician for another fill. I've been lucky to have a physician who listens to your needs and will fill you up to every two weeks, which is what I did at first. Although I've been slow, I calculated that I've lost 8 lbs a month...which is fine with me. At that rate I'll have the 100 lbs off which is my goal in one year. Hang in there I know how discouraging it is....but you need to be your own advocate with this...and hopefully ou have a great physician group. good luck to you. sharon;)
-
No but I will try some now...I also love fruit but have to watch the sugar. I need to keep things my in car to munch on. I don't do the shopping so that doesn't help. I'm going tohave to plan better. I know I have pretty good restriction but I need to have better self control. thanks for the advice...I love this blog you guys are so supportive...thanks to you all

OH YEAH...I was on my "last meal" syndrome for 4 months before surgery and gained an extra 20 lbs....you're right where we all were...enjoy now because it will NEVER happen again..... sharon:)

I think its called obsessive...forget about it and keep busy doing something else or just throw the scales out!!!! this could be a 20/20 show

:smile::hi:ok so near the college I teach at is a "drive thru dairy queen" not good. I LOVE ice cream. I've gone there three times this week!!!! and although I had "just" a small cone with chocolate dip I have to find a substitute as this will be my demise through the summer!!!! Any suggestions!!!! How dare they put dairy queen with a drive thru.... I'm stuck.....no weight loss in two weeks....I believe I need a little more of a fill but that's not the only solution..... HELP!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

The band is not good do not do it! PLEASE! save your self the money!
sharona replied to snoho's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
I think what is missing here is a lot of information. Yes you are entitled to your opinion but you should support it. The band isn't for everyone and is a choice that is personal. It sounds like you have many other issues that perhaps aren't related to the band. To advise others to not have this done because of your experience without sharing your experience isn't really helpful. I hope you find your answers to what you need. God Bless -
went for a defill today and I think they took out too much....
sharona replied to sizzlingseven's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
actually I don't think that was much food!!! think about how many chicken wings you would have eaten before the band... I think the choices were poor but not a lot of food....re think this before you ask for more.... sharon -
What foods can you NOT eat since the surgery?
sharona replied to mphsmommy's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
I can eat salads but also stay away from cucumbers with skin on them. I don't eat broccoli and can't eat rice or Pasta. Breads are questionable depends how fat I eat them and how softr they are. I basically stay away from them as they are my downfall. You'll find out what you can eat and what you can't eat pretty quickly. Working with the band is a process. I'm 3 months out and am just finding out how to work with it and I've had 4 fills. I've lost almost 30 lbs.... good luck sharon:) -
be glad their that thorough....its a safety net...you want to make sure that there aren't any hidden problems prior to surgery not during or after. I found out that I had severe sleep apnea which I didn't know about prior to the evaluation. Good luck to you and the time will fly and before you know it you'll be complaining that your not filled enough like the rest of us...!!!!hahahahah
-
congratulations on your decision, you won't regret it. It IS a process that I am just starting to understand. I've had 4 fills and do have some restriction. weight loss is slow but I truly am managing food much differently than before. Its not a "quick fix" it helps you make the right food choices. Good luck and we look forward to seeing your progress.:frown::star::hurray::smile::mad:

I've had 4 fills with now 5.5cc in a 10 cc band

I still struggle to get enough protein in each day. I do fall back on protein drinks, Bariatric Advantage have carmel drinks and sgtrawberry drinks that individually packaged I keep in the fridge. Each box give 200 calories and 24 grams of protein. I usually have one a day. I start the day off with two scrambled eggs and always have chicken or baked Beans in the evening. I cook chicken to have in the fridge to put on my salads at lunch time. Its a process. I have to make another appt with the nutritionist but since I got laid off I've been searching for a job, which I finally found, for at least the summer. I've been lucky not to have gained any weight but the weight has come off slowly. I tryto work out at least 3 times per week which helps. Allergies now are kicking my butt so if I make it through the day I'm happy. Hang in there...it too shall come.....don't worry about the numbers just the process. sharon:)

Well after my 4th fill on Thursday (.5cc) I finally feel restricted!!! Thank goodness. Eating a salad and a slice of watermelon kept me full for hours. So I'm hoping to go 4 weeks this time without needing a fill. Struggling with allergies in wonderful New England....and the 90 degree heat doesn't help. I'm trying to think how miserable it was during the winter months when it was 20 degrees out but cant quite get there. I am working part time and still deciding if I want to work for someone else....there is something to be said to have vacation time and leaving the office behind you. We are all getting excited about our new grandson coming in September (Jacob) and I'm looking forward to the holidays this year to think that just maybe I can buy clothes in a "regular" size. I did have to "throw" away pants the other day becuase I was swimming in them. Nice feeling. Trying not to spend too much on new things knowing that size will be gone soon also. Went from a size 20 pants to 16...happy about that. I am starting to like exercise (no I don't have WII FIT either) and feel much better when I do the treadmill. Have a good weekend everyone. Spent the day teaching new nurses today and I must say "be afraid, be very afraid"!!!!
