  1. are you sure you were filled with 6cc's?That is a huge amount....and if you did you shouldn't be able to eat that much...I would talk to your doctor. When were yu banded and how are you losing weight? sharon
  2. Afte I saw him for the first time which was on 12/27 I had gone to one support meeting. Had everything sutmitted by 1/31 and in and was approved by 2/3. When I was approved they then moved my preop date up and I was scheduled for surgery, 3/12. After my first visit I also had a second appt which was for 3/27 but they had said if everything is done prior they would push things up, which they did. So I am almost two weeks post op and glads its done. so you may end up with it quicker. I'm planning on going to the April group meeting. sharon;)

    Motrin?

NO NO NO...NSAIDS at all..you are now at risk for an ulcer after surgery. YOu rphysician should have advised you that. Tylenol is fine...liquid or crush the pills or take the capsules and open them and add to some applesauce to take. I am a nurse sharon: RN/MSN
  4. my thoughts are you need a new surgeon. I am a nurse and I can tell you what he did is wrong. You should not have had a fill after surgery and she should not be screwing around looking for your port and in addition not believing you i the first place. Fire his ass and find yourself a good surgeon. sharon;) RN/MSN

    March 12 >>> Finaly

well had the lapband on the 12th but ended up with pneumonia and c-diff after antbiotics. what supposed to be the next day return to home ended up a 5 day stay. I'm feeling better and am eating cottage cheese, protein drinks and scxrambled eggs. I do feel full easily and so afraid of being dehydrating am drinking throughout the day. its hard not to graze at this stage because there isn't much we can eat to begin with so I do find I am eating about 2-3 tablespoons at a time but 4-5 times per day. I've lost a total of 15 lbs which included my preop diet so I'm not really excited about the weight loss as I felt it would be more. But I do think how excited I would have been with this weight loss prior to the surgery so I should be happy. I'm a little sore and have a hard time wearing a bra because of it. I have my first appt on Friday the 29th and am looking forward to it. I'm still struggling with loose stool so I don't know if this is normal or not. So how is everyone else doing? sharon;)
  7. I'm ready when you are!!! sharon:)
  8. I did meet the new doctor and he is good, very detailed, looked through my chart and spent much tim with me as I was there for my preop exam. I had my surgery on 3/12 and the surgery was fine but because I have asthma and had a hospitalization in February for bronchitis I ended up with pneumonia and then diarhea from the antibiotics and got dehydrated since I could only take in liquids. I got out on Sunday 3/16. My only complaint is that I saw Dr. T just once while in there and felt that since I had complications he should have made a visit or been involved with some of the decision making. His team was good and nurses were great. Caution to everyone, I have been a nurse for along time and my suggestion is to NOT have surgery in JUly in any teaching hospital. For those you know still waiting to get a date pass on the information. I see Tischler next Friday 3/28. I didn't leave with any instructions, the instruction sheet they gave me were with blanks not filled in. So I had to guess what my restrictions were i.e. weight lifting, bathing etc. And probably being a nurse helped. I also am confused with the diet. I had to go online at Tischlers website to plug in their resource page to get updated diet information. I've lost 15 lbs but that includes the weight I had lost pre surgery. Good luck... and welcome to the bandsters. sharon:)
  9. fabulous fabulous fabulous.....at 57 if I can get rid of the apron after weight loss and decrease the breasts (their 44DD now) I'd be happy. congratulations sharon

OH my God that is a fabulous "manly" ticker...proud of you Chris(hahaha)...I can't believe the amount of weight youve lost...you guys always lose faster then women...I am one week out now and doing better. I have an appt on 3/27 and can't say I'm hungry if I drink my protein. Sometimes I feel the restriction and sometimes I don't. I haven't even thought about exercising, but I do have a gym membership. I think I'll give myself a few months, start walking when the weather is better and move from there. I'm so proud of our accomplishments. Chris you're such an inspiration to us all, so glad I found the group. Now Ct.Cutie....you have time to process the changes prior to your surgery. I find the time it takes to get through this is helpful...My bruising is still there but I am healed...hey Chris did you get the "superglue" closing? I think it works great I went back to work today 1/2 day....came home and slept from 2:30 to 6:30....I just have no time left at work since I just started in October and have been sick and hospitalized twice and had a planned vacation for one week....I'l be working for a long time to play catch up for our pending grandchild in September. Here's to a great summer. Sharon:)

the preop diet really isn't bad. can't say I was "good" all the time but went back on track. lost 8 lbs and the doctor was happy with that and stated that the surgery went well because of decreasing my fat intake. i did multiple different protein drinks i got from the GNC shoppe, optifast is good but you need a script to get it. my docor allowed me to have 1/2 cup of cottage cheese a day and a cup of yogurt so I didn't feel so bad. the first three days are the worst then you actually feel good and not hungry. You'll be fine...your feeling what you should feel we have all been there and this site helped us all get through each day at a time. hang in there....its an exciting time sharon;)
  12. Both procedures are just a tool. People have worked around both procedures. There needsd to be a committment in your mind to have a different relatinship with food. Lapband is better in that it doesn't change the structure of your GI tract. And....there are multiple complications with the bypass surgery. I am a nurse and did much research before deciding to have the lapband done and some of that was driven by the number of patients in the community I took care of with complications from bypass. I would consider the lesser risky procedure and continue with psychiatric assistance as well as nutritional support while changing your life. sharon
  13. thank you so much for the tracker. I was just banded on 3/12 and need some help. I feel like I'm eating too much and need to track. I eat about 4-6 ounces each sitting but have been eating throughout the day. trying to get that protein in is the challenge.. sharon:)

welcome to our group!!! Our Ct. Man just had his surgery on 3/4 so he will be a great resource for you. I just had my surgery on 3/12 and had a little complication unrelated to the surgery. Having asthma I got pneumonia post op then loose stools from the antibiotics. The surgery wasn't a problem, little pain, had gas for one day and that was it. I'm now home and feel great. Having a little difficulty with the post op diet in that I am hungry but trying to stay on the high protein drinks. But have had some soups and yogurt. You'll do fine....This is a great blog and everyone is very supportive. I agree with shortgal go to the GNC store they have great choices and convenient take to work drinks for your preop diet. Mine was for 10 days and had the option of protein drinks, and one yogurt a day and 1/2 cup of cottage cheese so that was good. I think its good to have the preop diet to prepare you for the not eating thing after surgery. Good luck and welcome!!! Now work on your ticker... sharon:)

    24 hours post banding

shouldn't be getting filled that fast...you have at least 3 weeks to heal first...I would quetions this practice...I am a nurse and I've not ever hear od that...be careful sharon;)
  16. Your fine, don't beat yourself up. This is a process and not a miracle. We're human with a need to realize that we will make mistakes. I always said to my kids growing up its not the mistake you make its how you manage the mistake that counts. Now move on and you'll be more aware with your next party... sharon:)

well I'm finally home!!! Thank goodness. Now what to eat...feel likt I'm eating not enough. Had a protein drink, and chicken broth and some yogurt thinned out. I certainly am not hungry and do feel full quickly. Worried about getting enough protein in. I do feel better and I have stopped "pooping" as they've put me on immodium...thank goodness. Thank you Ct. Man for being around very late last night while I was feeling sorry for myself. I have to miss yet another week of work...I just started this job in October and was out for a weeks vacation (which was planned prior to hire) then came home and got sick with bronchitis and out for another 6 days and now I can't go back to work until the Monday after easter which will not be another8 days....thanks goodness they like me. I don't have any time which is fine $$$ wise but feel like it will take forever to get it accumulated again. We have a new grandchild coming in September....and I'll be slim for the event....yeah!!!! Thank God its over. (or just beginning).....thank you all for your support and prayers....I'm so glad I met you all... sharon;):wink2::biggrin2::thumbup::tt2::thumbup::thumbup:

I'm still in the hospital, since Wednesday. Just had a second chest xray and hope to be home tomorrow. God I've been so sick. I've had loose stool for days...like 15 times a day, did anyone else have this problem? Their acting like this isn't unusual. I'm so frustrated and hungry. I eat and it comes out. (if you call drinking chicken broth eating) Can't wait to get out of here!!! Sharon :tongue::sneaky:

    Lap band with an ostomy

I am a registered nurse and I think with an ileostomy it depends how much surgery you had and whether your prone to adhesions. Not sure this could be performed laparscopically. YOu need to have a heart to heart discussion with a reputable surgeon. Know the facts before you pursue. Also have you had chemo or radiation? that factors into your abiity to heal. Good luck my husband has had an ileostomy for 15 years related to Chron's disease..I hear your concerns. sharon:)
