  1. It feels like it's official. I'm getting gastric bypass after a year of waiting and jumping over hurdles. I had my food funeral yesterday (Yes, I know it isn't exactly a wise thing to do, but hey, it happened) and I feel at peace with the idea of leaving it all behind. I get to start over new with a tool that will help me gain the ability to run, to have children, to live...to live. I feel so overwhelmingly emotional at the thought of it all because I have been a big girl my whole life. I feel like it drives me harder in some ways. Im not sure...I feel like crying happy tears.
  2. I got my surgery date! January 4th. My liquid diet starts December 21st...I know it takes dedication and perseverance, but does anyone have any ideas as to how to make Christmas eating bearable while not being able to eat solid food? Any holiday-ish recipes or anything healthy? Thanks guys!

    Liquid Diet Starts Tomorrow

@@talkingmountain It is only day one and I am incredibly irritable. I hope things start evening out for you. I've noticed now, since it is the end of the day, that I am more tired than usual. @@talkingmountain Also! I hope your pre-op diet goes well! ❤️

    Liquid Diet Starts Tomorrow

@@talkingmountain How is the chicken soup?
  5. Hi there! I'm still pre-op (January 4th is my rebirth ????), but I was curious as to how things may even out later on down the road (I know all bodies are different, we will lose at different rates, yada yada yada). I've never been "little," but I know that I have an apple shape...or maybe an upside down triangle? (big boobs, no hips, little butt, 5'3") Anyone with similar body type post op? Where did you lose weight first? Last? Difficult areas? So many questions!

Surgery Date and Christmas Liquid Diet

@@talkingmountain It is a wise idea, and I may end up following your example. It's easier to just come after everyone eats their big breakfast. I hope my family will understand if I do end up doing that. I completely forgot about hot cocoa! Such a great idea.

Surgery Date and Christmas Liquid Diet

Thanks for the encouraging words, @@goblue9280! my pre op diet consists of the same things essentially. I know it is part of the deal, not eating the way I used to anymore. My family does a big Christmas Breakfast every year. It's just our thing. I know I will be tempted to nibble on something! I think I'm going to have to get crafty with my Protein shakes and some sf Jello during breakfast lol!
  17. Through my experience of receiving care from military docs and nurses and contracted providers, it has been...slow but sure. I've fought with my primary care provider who was not supportive of my decision (through talks I heard that she was denied the surgery because she did not meet requirements and takes it out on her patients, which is so wrong ????), appointments take forever to plan because, well, they do (I've been at this for a year now because of shortage of docs at the military hospital where I am getting surgery done), and because there is one bariatric nurse that handles the patient's appointments for the surgery clinic and plans surgeries, she is an EXTREMELY hard person to get ahold of in instances of emergencies and needing to change appointment dates, which are difficult to make when they don't make their schedules in a timely manner. It was more than wonderful to find out that I had gotten through the rough spot (pre op requirements, psych and nutrition, etc.), but was given no surgery date as of yet at my decision appointment when we were told at orientation that it would be the date we got it. I was told by my surgeon "sometime in January" but he didn't know because the ONE day I get an appointment, the only nurse in the clinic that has the schedules takes off (I'm salty, lol). And was told to wait for the nurse to call me to give me a date. She called and said "January maybe February...we don't have the schedule finished." (WHY DID YOU CALLL UGGGGGH) And then she asked me which surgery I was having for the fourth time because my surgeon didn't finish his notes, and that she'd be in touch. I feel it there just in my grasp. I'm so close after waiting what feels like so long. I'm so ready to get my date.
  18. So, my nutritionist had her assistant weigh me before coming into her office for my appointment to see if she could send me on my way (which she did, yaaaaay!) but, when her assistant took my weight and wrote it on a sticky note to give to her...I believe she read it wrong and put it in the system WRONG (She told all of us in our group meeting she cannot see well. She literally has a tv screen for a computer screen). So tonight I go and check my stats and verify my appointment to see my weight 5 pounds lighter than it actually was...I was 259.6, not 254.6. And I am still not that weight. I am in shambles. Tomorrow is my decision appointment, and they tell us they will boot us from the program if we gain weight. I called the office to try and explain, and the best they gave me was to go to the nutrition office before my decision appointment and get weighed again. Advice? Similar experiences? I am so nervous.

    My Nutritionist Doesn't See Well.

I am on medication. It helps tremendously, though, like I said "I don't know's" on that level kills me, which caused breakthrough panic. In that situation, you did the best thing possible. Those who cannot help themselves, but ask for help from everyone else, or are unintentionally needy, are draining. To themselves and everyone around them. I really hope that she has gotten medication since. I'm glad that you were able to recognize the situation as toxic and take care of yourself.

    My Nutritionist Doesn't See Well.

The sad part about it all is that no matter how hard one tries to discuss the importance of awareness and consideration of people suffering, it is still overlooked and not considered when a stressful situation comes about, though in defense, many don't know how to deal with it or can even point out a person "panicking." "I don't know's" are my worse nightmare in situations like these. And it is at 3:15. I've been thinking about it today. I have the My Weight app on my iPhone that has all of my weights recorded and their times and dates. Hopefully that and the kindness of the nutrition staff allowing me to reweigh myself will help smooth things over.
