    Advice needed

Hey everyone, my surgery date is coming up on July 25th. Initially my surgeon recommended bypass because I have reflux. My reflux improved significantly and I asked if I could do sleeve instead and he said ok. Now my reflux is back with a vengeance and I'm scared that surgery is going to make it worse. Did anyone have sleeve then regret it because of reflux? Any personal experiences with this kind of situation would be greatly appreciated
  2. I'm about to start the process, my insurance gives hoops to jump through , and I have my first appointment with a surgeon next week. It will be probably at least 6 months before I can get a surgery date. My fiancé is unbelievably supportive, but I'm too embarrassed to tell anybody at work, and I know my siblings and parents will think I'm being extreme and should just try harder on my own. I have lost 80 pounds on my own in the past but it came back with bonus weight. Did anybody have their surgery without telling their families ?
  3. Hey everyone, I'm new to the process, just recently met with the surgeon and have started the check off process to meet all of the requirements of both the office and my insurance company for gastric bypass. I have to start a 24 week weight management program, and to be honest, they are giving me more grief about starting than the surgeon's office! Once I can finally get started with them, I have 24 weeks minimum until I can qualify for a surgery date. I work as a nurse, so while the office typically recommends 10 days off, I'm going to need more when the time comes. I'm not sure how to go about letting management know, how much time should I give them in advance ? Our schedules are typically in stone over a month in advance and we are understaffed right now, so I just don't know how and when to handle this. Do I apply for fmla and/or short term disability? How far in advance did y'all talk to hr or management ? And should I go through hr or my manager ? I have no idea what I'm doing

I'm in the Daytona area, just started the process, surgery will probably be at least 6 months out for me
  5. Thanks everyone for your input. I really want to keep this to myself, but I have no idea how I can. My fiancé knows and is super supportive. I did end up telling one of my sisters. Initially she asked why I couldn't do it on my own, and was concerned about the risk, but once I talked to her about it, she seemed to be on board and promised she would keep it to herself. I know my parents are going to be against it, but I'll figure out how to deal with that closer to when I get a surgery date. Work is another major concern for me, I work with all women, many of whom are incredibly big gossips. I also am pretty sure I won't get the time off without everybody knowing what's up- oh and I work at the hospital where the surgery would take place.. I know it should be confidential but I don't know how it won't get out
  6. Hi everyone! I'm seriously considering gastric sleeve surgery. I've struggled with my weight for years and yo-yo'd up and down. I'm 28 now and I'm really starting to feel the damage it is doing to my body. My joints hurt, I have no energy and issues like reflux are getting worse. I'm a floor nurse and work 12 hour shifts. I have virtually no paid leave right now after call offs and one week off to see family recently. One of my biggest concerns is how much time I would need to take off of work. Can anybody tell me about their experience?
  7. I don't know if that will be an option, or how sorting that out would work. I'm new to my position so I don't qualify for fmla for several more months. However I'm sure that there are hoops that I will have to jump through for the insurance so I don't have any idea of what a potential timeline would be. I'm hoping to go to an information session next week from the surgical group.
