Why didn't I know how bad it's gotten?
Susan66 replied to kmorri's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Hang in there, you'll be so happy when you fly 6 months or so from now and can sit comfortably in your seat even with your legs crossed. [emoji4] -

Waiving the 6 month requirement?
Susan66 replied to Joyecamp1992's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
When I first started the WLS journey, the insurance I had also had a 6 month wait. At the end of my 5th month, I switched insurance companies & was good to go because this one had only a 3 month wait. Looking back I wouldn't change a thing. I learned so much during those 5 months of pre-op education. I was well prepared, confident in my decision and understood my part I had to carry out post op. Don't rush things, the wait period is for us to learn & understand what we are doing. The wait period will fly by and your surgery date will be here before you know it. [emoji4] -
Syntrax Nectar Protein
Susan66 replied to 2bsleeved26's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
My #1 favorite of the Syntrax flavors is Fuzzy Navel, it's very much like a light orange juice drink. I have gone through many containers of it & it's my favorite. The iced tea & grape I do not recommend. Strawberry Kiwi is like fruit punch. -
Hiatal hernia and Sleeve
Susan66 replied to kleeper's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I had a hiatal hernia repaired at the same time I was sleeved on 12/10. Total actual time in the OR was one hour. Surgery time varies from one person to the other. I would go under anesthesia once not twice if I could avoid it. Good luck to you. -
Hair loss help... Devastated
Susan66 replied to cuchas's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I keep telling myself that if my hair gets thin I can deal with it. Well, my hair has thinned quite a bit. I lose a hand full of hair every morning in the shower. Now I have been saying, Ok, I can deal with this as long as I don't have bald patches. Honestly, I have been looking at wig websites, Raquel W. Has some real natural looking wigs. It is, what it is, I just need to try to stay focused on the reason I had VSG on the first place. -
6 months visit weight gained
Susan66 replied to scarlep's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I'm so glad my surgeon doesn't cancel surgery dates due to a weight gain in the pre-op stage. The reason most of us are having or had WLS is because we struggle to lose in the first place. -
Lakegirl, I am 3 months & 3 weeks post op. I at this time would not be able to eat a chicken or steak salad. Only because the leafy greens would fill me up & I wouldn't get all my 3oz of protein in. I'm hoping this changes in a few months because I previously loved chicken Caesar salad.

Why can't I lose weight after 3 weeks post-op!
Susan66 replied to malvarez1210's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Sounds to me like you need to record everything you swallow. Record your protein, fluids & vitamin intake. If you are getting the required/suggested amounts by your NUT, then just keep it up and hang in there. I have the same issue and I have come to realize that this is normal for me. After my big initial weight loss, my scale seems to move every 3 weeks. Now that I'm 3 months post op, I have just come to accept it. Try to get more protein & water in. In the beginning it will seem like recording it all is another full time job. Hang in there. -
Biotin doesn't only promote hair on your head
Susan66 posted a topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Been taking my Bariatric Fusion vitamins since November. I was sleeved on 12/10. My vitamins have a small amount of Biotin in them but recently decided to add more to help with new hair growth, since I figured I would possibly start to lose hair very soon. I have never had an issue with facial hair, I was born naturally blonde so if I had any, it was very light. Well, in the last two weeks I have had more crazy coarse hairs pop out on my face, upper lip, chin & eyebrows. I have stopped the additional Biotin & have had two Electrolysis visits. Ughhh, anybody else have this issue with Biotin? -

Did everyone have a Pre-op diet?
Susan66 replied to coleycole127's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I had 2 weeks of a pre op diet. Two meals a day replaced with a protein drink. One meal a day consisting of 3oz of lean protein, 1 cup of non starchy vegetables & a small green salad with a tiny amount of a low fat salad dressing. It honestly wasn't so bad. When you consider that you will be making a large change in the way you eat after surgery, it's kind of a stepping stone for your post op diet. Plus if there's anything I can do to make my surgery safer (less risk of liver damage) I would do it. -
Biotin doesn't only promote hair on your head
Susan66 replied to Susan66's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Yeah I'm done with it. [emoji4] -
Prior to surgery I received a shot of Heparin and another the day after surgery to prevent blood clots. The shots sound worse than they are, never felt them. The best any of us can do is to get up & moving after surgery immediately after your anesthesia wears off & it's safe for you to walk. Then continue to be up on your feet and walking the days following surgery. If you can't get outside, do laps in your home. With regard to the filter procedure being done, I'm assuming if your Dr suggests you have it, than you must need that extra precaution.

Is this the procedure that basically reduces the stomach size as the sleeve does but also shortens the intestinal length?

Ever gone on a cruise after being sleeved?
Susan66 replied to Lovin2lose's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I was Sleeved 12/10, left on a cruise 1/24 @ 6 weeks post op. Here's what I did, I took some single serve packets of my Syntrax Protein drink for snacks, to be sure I did get enough protein each day. At breakfast I either had an omelette or scrambled eggs. Lunch was some form of protein, which even when off the ship was easy enough to get. Dinner in the dining room was always a shrimp cocktail which I ate half of. For my main dish at dinner, I would have a lobster tail or some type of fish or grilled chicken. I would ask for it to be seasoned with only salt & pepper. One thing I figured out half way through the trip was that if I ordered another appetizer for my main dish, it was the perfect size. It was very easy to stay on track.[emoji4] My waiter at dinner never questioned me about why I was eating so little. -

Leilie, My heart breaks for you. As a mother of a son, I want all the best for him & have always wanted to fix anything that troubled him. I know it has to be so difficult and heartbreaking. Insurance requires 6 months to try to lose some weight
Susan66 replied to Carrie Briggs's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I also had a 6 month wait and my insurance required me to lose 5% of my starting weight. Your boots made me giggle. I have heard of people doing all kinds of things to boost their initial starting weight. Best of luck to you, the waiting period will be over before you know it. -
TMI potty talk coming your way
Susan66 replied to theladyslipper's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Having the same issue. I was thinking of maybe drinking low sodium V8 a few times a week. It's supposed to be a vegetable juice so maybe it will help. -
I was sleeved on 12/10. I wasn't so much worried about not waking up from anesthesia but I do get creeped out by having anything placed over my airway nose/mouth. I let my anesthesiologist know this & he was kind enough to give me a little cocktail in my IV which made me sleep before put me under & intubated me.
