My surgery was 12/10, a good friend of mine who is a L&D nurse suggested tiny amounts of warm decaf tea. Also laying flat and trying to roll side to side. The rolling wasn't an option for me with my abdomen being so sore. However, the warm tea really did seem to help. I also had my husband pat my shoulder & more was released.

Day 1 post op RNY
Susan66 replied to christinamejia's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I'm 5 days post op and have been using Syntrax Nectar protein drink for my protein drinks. Today I did have Isopure grape flavored drink. The pain gets better each day & the gas pains in my shoulder were gone day 4. I had a hernia repair with my VSG. -

This Hair Loss is Horrific
Susan66 replied to TexasGirl86's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
hair loss will be one of those mysteries to me. When I had my hysterectomy & lost the hair after surgery, I wasn't more than 30lbs overweight & didn't lose any weight with the surgery. With this WLS I need to lose 80lbs and I sure do plan to do everything I can to keep the hair I have. -
Question about swallowing
Susan66 replied to stepbill's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Day 1& 2 were a bit weird when trying to swallow but now at post op day #4 I'm pretty much swallowing with no issues. One question I have for you all is, are you taking baby sips or regular sips? In support group meetings I attended prior to surgery they stressed taking baby sips. I think I take sips a little more than a baby sip. I can't imagine getting the 64oz of liquids in each day taking baby sips. I would be sipping 24/7. -
I was prescribed capsules for my gallbladder and had a bit of a hard time swallowing them day #1, but after that it was ok.

when do you feel normal eating again (small portions still)?
Susan66 replied to denisa's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I'm only 4 days post op and am on clear liquids & protein drinks for one week. Next week I can add yogurt, protein pudding & small curd cottage cheese. The following 2weeks I can add chicken & fish but it must be puréed. If your stomach doesn't seem to be handling what your eating, try this plan that I was instructed to eat/drink. -
Good for you, doesn't it feel good to finally be post-op?

FINALLY APPROVED!
Susan66 replied to perfectlyimperfect44's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I had my surgery last Thursday 12/10. Honestly for me the procedure itself was ok & I also had a hernia repair also. Truly the worst part of it was having that darn IV pole attached to me every time I wanted to get up and walk. Stay positive & go into it knowing you chose a great Dr and you'll do great. Best wishes for a fast recovery. -
That's great news, so happy for you????

Best of luck to you on this peer to peer. Keeping you in good thoughts.

Last week after WLS, my nurse was walking with me and asked "what was it that made me decide to have the surgery." I told her that "I want to be there for my future grandchildren" ????

This Hair Loss is Horrific
Susan66 replied to TexasGirl86's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Did anybody else have a major surgery prior to WLS and also lose hair then? I had a hysterectomy 5 years ago and about 3-4 months after surgery lost a lot of my hair. I thought it was more a side effect of the anesthesia at that time. -
how long is the Gastric Sleeve surgery ?
Susan66 replied to boosh10's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
My surgery including hiatal hernia repair was about an hour with an additional 2 hours in recovery. -
New sleevers how are you doing
Susan66 replied to Joymarie333's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Sleeved on the 10th, the two things that are annoying are the gas pains in my right shoulder & getting enough water down. Other than that the pain from being sleeved & hernia repair are manageable. Glad to hear the water intake gets easier as the weeks pass. -
Any December Sleever's?

I was sleeved this past Thursday 12/10. -
After 6 months of nutrition visits, a Dr supervised diet, and a Health Insurance carrier that filed bankruptcy & shut down on Nov 30th, my new insurance company just approved me! I can't even believe it. I'm so happy, relieved, excited and so very grateful to my surgeons office staff who have been so kind & helpful. ????

December 10th sleevers out there?
Susan66 replied to smcclendon's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Arrival time is 7:30, OR time is 9:00. Still not nervous at all but I'm sure when that IV goes in, that's when it will all hit me. Been on clear liquid diet all day and just now at almost 8pm I'm starting to get very hungry. Best wishes to all of you having surgery. -
December 10th sleevers out there?
Susan66 replied to smcclendon's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Good for you, an early spot on the surgical schedule. I have not received my call yet with my time. At this moment I'm still pretty calm, not nervous. Have everything ready here at the house, laundry done & all cleaned up around here. My husband will take me tomorrow & stay the day. My son works overnights & will stop in to check on me Friday morning. Here we go friends. -

Has anyone done this without any family, etc. at the hospital?
Susan66 replied to 280journey's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Just a thought....check with your hospital, they may have a car service or medical coach/van service they can arrange for your ride home. Best wishes to you. -
What to expect at the hospital
Susan66 replied to Bacon-n-Limes's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Thanks for sharing your experience. You mentioned you were able to shower while there. I was curious if I would be allowed to shower because of the IV? At what point did your IV get removed?
