  1. Like Balance stated I also feel very fortunate to have not had any complications. I'm 2 weeks post op tomorrow. My surgery including hernia repair, my husband tells me was about an hour and 15 minutes. No nausea, dizziness, headaches, trouble swallowing, drinking or keeping fluids down. I hardly had to take any pain meds. My anesthesiologist mentioned in pre op that he would be giving me pain blockers during surgery that would keep me comfortable for the first 24 hours or so.

    Wish I hadn't Told Some...

I think people who respond to us like that only do it because they don't have the balls to do what we did for ourselves.
  3. My surgeon prescribed Ursidiol for 6 months after surgery to help with Gallbladder issues, hope it works for me.

    Protein powders

^ I second that, Syntrax mixes perfectly smooth with only a spoon, no blender needed.
  5. Nope, no second thoughts here either. We all do different protein drinks & get the same end result. Try another good protein drink & see how it goes. Is your Dr going to know if you switch?
  6. I didn't take too much & honestly didn't use half of it. I wasn't allowed to change into my own pajamas. With an IV in my hand, it wasn't happening. I wore their gown, didn't even bother to use my robe when walking the halls, again I would not have been able to put it on with the IV in. What I did use was my blistex, slippers (cheap ones I tossed before going home) my hair brush & my phone charger. My hospital provided toothbrush, toothpaste, deodorant, moisturizer, etc.

    Feet Shrinking?

I'm only 10 days post op and my feet have definitely shrunk some and fingers to.

    Anyone's first surgery?

Just as babies are burped you can enlist someone to burp you.I did it for my cousin after her surgery & my husband did it for me. For me it helped to have him firmly pat my back on the left shoulder area and it worked. Also slowly sipping warm decaf tea helped.
  9. ^ thanks for sharing what is & isn't working for you. You just never know what's going to be an issue. Enjoy the rest of your trip & keep us posted on your food choices. This gives me hope that I'll be ok on my upcoming cruise. I was thinking of eating fish & lobster tail most nights but maybe I'll be able to have a taste of some more variety.
  10. I'm thinking maybe you should call your insurance company & tell them what's happening. Find out if they have any requirements for example does the surgeon have to be part of a program that is considered a Center of Excellence. You would want to know that for when you start looking into other Bariatric Surgeons. Maybe ask on this Bariatric Pal forum for some references to surgeons in your area. I wish you the best. I had to switch insurance companies in the 5th of my 6 month insurance requirement. What a pain in my a$$ that was.

    Final weigh in!

If it were me, today & tomorrow I would do a liquid diet of my protein drinks only. Have you been weighing in at Dr's office fully clothed? If you are just a few pounds off tomorrow at weigh in ask to be weighed in an exam gown. Take everything off, jewelry, bra & underpants. Best of luck to you.
  12. ^ hello, what have you been ordering? Also wondering how your new stomach is tolerating the normal foods? I have a fear of ordering something, even plain chicken or fish and it going right through me. That along with not being sure of the protein I'll be getting in, is why I'm bringing a few of my single serve protein drink packets.
  13. With this procedure done & the activities of being on a cruise, we should lose. I have been on many cruises & I hope you will enjoy it. Where is your cruise going to?
  14. Hello, My surgery was 12/10. Everything was so easy with this procedure. I saw my surgeon yesterday for a post-op visit & he again reassured me I would be good to go on my cruise. My cruise is 6 weeks post-op. My plan is to bring my individual packets of my protein drinks onboard for added protein mixed in my water bottle. I think the packets are the best for this situation because I don't think I'll get through security with a container of open powder protein mix & I don't want to bring the huge jug it comes in. I plan to meet with one of the chefs immediately after boarding the ship & explaining my situation & asking for simple options like chicken & fish with mild to no seasonings at all, a small salad and a non starchy vegetable option nightly. They will work with us. Just think how nice it will be to come home from a cruise & not have the usual weight gain of one pound per day. ????
  15. Same here. I have lower BMI. When is your surgery? We have a secret fb group you can join for December Sleevers. Its called December 2015 SleeversI was sleeved on 12/10 can you add me please?

    Protein powders

My first choice is Syntrax Nectar flavors. I mix 1 full scoop with a spoon, no blender & it mixes perfect. Check out all the flavors available on VitaminShoppe.com 1 full scoop has 23 grams of protein, zero sugar & zero carbs.
  17. Ivette, I have a few friends that do the injections for birth control. Google a few of the suggestions and learn a bit about them. This way when you go to your OB/GYN you'll have a little knowledge of a few. Good luck with it all. ????

    Hi Everyone! I'm new here!

Hi Ivette, Congrats on the weight you have already lost, that's great. I just had my surgery a week ago today and I feel great. There really was no scary or ugly moments during my hospital stay or after care. It truly was pretty easy for me. I hope the rest of recovery and learning how to eat WLS style will be as easy. Best wishes to you & Cindy41 for a smooth surgery and fast recovery.

    Why sleeve and not bypass?

In my case, my BMI at initial surgeon consultation was 40.2. At the time we submitted to my insurance company it was 38.

    Anyone's first surgery?

I was sleeved a week ago today. Not sure what it was but I had a calm come over me and I wasn't nervous at all that morning or the few days leading up to surgery day. One thing I made known to my surgeon & anesthesiologist was that I did not want a mask placed on my face just prior to going under. They were happy to accommodate me & make me sleepy & out through my IV first. The blood thinner shots to the belly, I had two and honestly the needle is so tiny you barely feel it. Please try not to worry too much about those Heparin shots.
  22. Best wishes to you MyRose9 Here's to a smooth recovery.????
  23. Along with the vitamins you are taking are you also including a B12?
  24. It was sort of a long road/journey to get approved for me and so it seems to be that way for many others. Go for your consultation with your chosen surgeon if you haven't yet and let him/her send you for whatever testing they feel needed. In my case, my surgeon worked hard at getting me approved. Good luck
