NYC Surgeons specializing in Gastric Sleeve or Lapband Revision?
Meley24 posted a topic in Revision Weight Loss Surgery Forums (NEW!)
I'm sorry if this question has been asked already, but I'm looking for any recommendations on surgeons in New York City who are known for Lapband to Gastric Sleeve revision, or specialize in Gastric Sleeve. Thank you!- 7 replies

Thanks @@Pinkgirl1234! I actually had my surgery at NYU but not with Dr. Kurian, although I've heard wonderful news about her. I'll check out Lenox Hill as well, anyone in particular? -
Considering revision to Gastric Sleeve -- should I?

@@ryebread that's wonderful news about your friend's weight loss, and best of luck to you with your revision. I might be in the same boat--haven't been able to keep anything solid down in over a week. I'd be suprised if my band hasn't slipped! I have an esphogram scheduled or next week and I'll know then. Regardless what the outcome, it's not working for me and needs to come out. Please keep us posted on your post-op. @@Pinkgirl1234 good luck with your tests. I hope your band didn't slip, but if it did then it's probably for the best. The band might work for a small number of people but clearly not for most -

Thanks @@geronimo! I'm going to speak with my doctor about testing for gerd. I do have mild heartburn but I can control it with Tums, wonder if that could be a result of gerd. How are you doing with the bypass? -

@@SWEETTEA congrats on your success. Your story makes me hopeful about the sleeve. With the band you have no choice but to eat slowly or suffer the consequences. I'm pretty good at chewing slowly, especially now so that shouldn't be a problem for me. -

@@Pinkgirl1234 I'm sorry to hear that you're also having problems with your band. So many people have, and it makes me wonder if they should just discontinue lapband surgery all together. I regret having them reposition the band after it slipped. I should have done more research and went with the sleeve or had it removed. I have an 11cc band and after they repositioned it, I can't go past 5cc without getting stuck all the time. At 5cc I hardly have any restriction so it's useless for me at this point. I meet with my surgeon in two weeks and hopefully I can start the process for the sleeve. -

Thank you @hockeyfan7. This is great info to keep in mind about making the sleeve a little larger due the scar tissue from the band. I will be sure to mention that to my surgeon if I decide to have the surgery. I relate very much to the issues you had with your band and regret ever getting it done, but I know that I can't lose weight on my own and I need the help. Deciding on having something irreversible is nerve-wrecking to say the least.
