Can I get a Gastric bypass after a lap band
taz replied to AnnieMae's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
Nanook, I am so glad things seem to be going well for you. Afraid I still don't have it together. Have you lost many pounds? I hope it continues to be positive forever. Tina -
Thanks for all your help. I'm working at not eating late. I will also call my doc.

Anyone with fibromyalgia that's had the lap band ?
taz replied to Thegirlnextdoor's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I take 100 mg of Lyrica 3 times a day. I have had some success with it. I've noticed other areas of pain reduction too. When I've had blood taken the pain isn't as intense. The problem I have the most is not being able to remember things. Another area that has helped is reducing my Lipitor. That is definitely an area losing weight could help. I would love to get off it entirely. My quality of life has really improved. -
Help!!!! I am in sooo much pain
taz replied to banderoo's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I also experienced extreme pain. I thought I was unusual but I see I was not. My mistake was not calling my doc for more pain meds. I was in pain for almost three weeks. Good luck. If you haven't called your doctor I would suggest that. -
I'm really glad you're feeling better. Having things stick like that is so traumatic. You did well in handling it. I'm not so sure I would have been so cheerful. :wink2:

I know about trying to get pain meds down when there is a problem getting meds down. I tried EVERYTHING I could think of. I'm afraid it is icecream with chocolate syrup. It covers the horrible taste of crushed meds and the sugar slides through the band fairly easily. I hope this helps with taking your meds.

I've had fibro about 10 years. It was trigered when I hurt my back. For 3 months after I was banded I wasn't bothered by fibro. This past month I was able to half my Lipitor. I was surpried how much better I felt. Is everyone on medication? Elavil gave me the most relief. I tried Cymbalta. It didn't do much for me. I take various meds throughout the day. I now also take Lyrica. It took about a month for the dizziness to get better but it helps. I've also noticed shots or taking blood doesn't hurt as much. Strange, isn't it. I've found stretching exercises help the most. Just bending over and letting gravity stretch you is easy and helps. Accupuncture helps too. I would be interested in hearing how others handle there pain. -
revision scheduled for oct.21st NERVOUS
taz replied to jsewell's topic in Revision Weight Loss Surgery Forums (NEW!)
Hi Nanook. I'm glad you are feeling better. I'm happy for your daughter too but strictures sound a bit painful. I recently moved to St Charles, Mo, so I haven't been at lapbandtalk for a while. I hope things continue to get better for you. Hi jsewell. I can understand how you would be nervous. At least you can look forward to things getting better. I know the stress you went through and then the weight gain just feels awful. I haven't experienced a revision but I think it is a fear we all have. Just know that things wil get better after your revision. I look forward to hearing how things progress. I know it isn't a popular thing to say, but I will say extra prayers that things go well for you. Tina -
I will definitely go for being totally knocked out. I'll just sleep longer for my own mental comfort. I can't even go to the dentist without the "laughing gas". I tried it once without and was a nervous wreck. I'm glad this is not overwhelming to everyone. If it was up to me I would want to be put under before I got to the doctor's office. Tina

I was wondering if anyone has had the fun of a colonoscopy after having the band. I'm scheduled to have this experience at the end of the month and I was wondering if anyone has had any problems with the band or because of the band. I'm supposed to drink 1 1/2 ounces of something (I can't remember the name). Any way, I would appreciate any information any one has. Thanks. Tina

Lap Band Proved Poor Tool 4 Me

Hi Nanook. I hope you have been keeping well. We moved about a month ago and everything was chaos. Maybe with things settling down I can at least think about using my band. Wish me luck. Tina -
Lap Band Proved Poor Tool 4 Me
taz replied to sexysmirk's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
I hate to hear of people having trouble with wls. I wish I could say I have an answer for success but I cannot figure out how to help myself. Since February I have only lost 17 lbs. I haven't weighed in a while so I don't know how I stand now. I've recently moved and will have a consultation with a new doc next week. Thank goodness he agreed to see me. I don't know if this will be helpful or not. Time will tell but I feel pretty defeated right now. Time will tell. :lovechoc: I hope everyone here can find help and success somewhere. Take care. -
I'm a total loss. Even though we paid for the surgery it seems I won't use it properly. I lost 17 pounds then it seems I just quit working with it. What is wrong with me. My husband lost his job soon after and we had to relocate. We are getting settled now and my husband says "are there any more excuses". I don't know if I need to try another fill. My doctor doesn't accept failures and I don't want to go back to him. I'm stuck.

Hi, Nanook. Nice to see you around. So far I haven't had trouble with my stomach. I take Prevacid in the morning and I don't take them on an empty stomach. I was a little concerned about this when I got my band but, so far, I havn't had any trouble.:smile2:Tina

I started on Zoloft about 15 years ago for some family stress and my familie's quality of life, as well as my own, improved greatly.:biggrin2: I continue to take it still. I was diagnosed with fibromyalgia about 12 years ago. Since depression is one of the symptoms I am on Elavil and Lyrica as well as other meds for pain. I can't imagine how hard it was for people before help from medications. (I also have a wonderful lady doc.)

That sounds wonderful. I wish I had enough guts to do that. I can't even handle roller coasters.:crying: Are you going again? And congratulations on the great weight loss.

Brandy, are you still there? I hope you are doing okay.

Blood from incisions......anybody?
taz replied to Startingover!'s topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I had the same experience after my surgery. The blood under the skin needs to drain to heal if it is like one of my incisions. I oozed for quite a few weeks. I at first put Neosporin and a bandaid over it. Wrong. It caused it to become worse. My doc was not pleased with me and said it needed to dry up. What worked in the end was washing my incisions lightly with antibacterial soap when I took a shower. I had gotten really tired of spots on my sheets and gowns so I bought sterile gauze and tape to use on skin and put about 4 pieces of gauze on at night or whatever. I think mine must have lasted longer. I was really discouraged when the blood pooled under the skin. It was not a problem,...it just didn't heal until it drained. We all live through these aggrevations. The thing is always call your doc about anything that worries you. Good luck with your weight loss. -
I agree that a person can affect his/her mood or outlook by becoming aware of negative messages that they tell themselves. To a degree. After that I think life experiences can be very difficult and even overwhelming at times. A situation which has one person hardly breaking a sweat can almost immobilize another. Judging someone with our own life experiences can sometimes be iffy. Is someone having family or job struggles? Are financial struggles being felt? Perhaps a child is sick. Stating how another person should be without fully understanding their situation can sometimes be unfair. If things could be fixed by someones criticizing we would all be fixed....and not a one of us would ever be overweight. We judge by our experiences to this point. We also don't know for sure we will be able to keep our weight off in the future. We hopefully have a better tool but we all have lost weight and been determined it would never come back. My mom always told be not to criticize because crow isn't an easy thing to eat. Hopefully we will all lose weight and be able to keep it off no matter what life throws at us. Good luck everyone. Tina

I am always interested when people talk about fibro. I have had fibro for about ten years. I am currently on five drugs ( including Lyrica) to try to control it. I also use acupuncture. All help some. The funny thing is I've had less pain from fibro since surgery Feb 8th. It has only recently started to bother me a lot so I need to go back to my acupuncurist. I tease her that I had one BIG acupuncture with lapband. Any way,...good luck to everyone. I would really like to hear from peoples experiences. Tina

Great stories everyone!:thumbs_up:I do okay (for me at least since I'm still struggling a bit) until I am out of town and go out to eat at a very nice restaurant. Their desserts are always soooo good. I just did not pass up that carrot cake even though I knew better. I did take half of it with me and ate it for breakfast the next morning. Can I count it as a veg for carrots, protein from nuts, and milk for the cream cheese frosting? Anyway, it was good and I am back home so no more carrot cake. It was really good until I stepped on the scale this morning. Happy weight loss to everyone.

Getting back to a normal life will be very hard for both families. The fact that they caught the rapist and can get a conviction must help a little but whatever he gets will not be enough.
-
I will try finding it. Maybe being out of the way is a good thing.

My mother uses Mirelax. It is the only thing that works for her. I've also heard hot prune juice. I guess I'm lucky. A couple cups of hot tea works wonders. I guess hot coffee would to. Hope you find something. My money is on Mirelax.

I am sorry you had such sad news today. The two things we worry about the most through life I think. The loss of a spouse or parent and the horriblle abuse of one of our children. It is all so very hard to understand. Tina
