Emily9654 posted a topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
Hi, I'm just over two months out and anyone ahead of me can tell me if the incision marks ever fade ever go back to normal? I'm certainly in no shape yet to show my abs but it would be nice to know when these go away! Thanks! -

Protein Shakes Make Me Gag
Emily9654 replied to kelseysleevedup's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I use Isopure, (GNC stores) I like it because it's no carb, no sugar and very thin which goes down easily and tastes great. loved them especially when I was just weeks out of surgery when it's hard to get down anything thick. My faves are Dutch chocolate and vanilla flavor. I do coffee Protein shake, and it's tastes like a Starbucks frappaccino! Hello! What I do is blend two scoops of vanilla protein powder with coffee and ice, Yummy! -
I had it and my doc said from all the gas..they pump a lot into you to do the surgery. My doc prescribed GAS-x strips, I had 1-2 about every couple of hours until my symptoms subsided And the I use Pepcid AC chewable on a daily basis now,

Natural Cure for Acid Reflux
Emily9654 replied to LoveMySleeve's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Hi, did you get a hiatal hernia repair as well? It helps if you did. I had one done with mine. Helped me get approved with insurance Regardless , my doc prescribed over the counter Pepcid AC, I have the cherry chewables and prescribed to be taken 2x a day. When I take them I'm fine, when I don't I have heartburn ..so they're a better alternative, although still medicine, I know, But just a supplement. -
How long did you take your pain meds?
Emily9654 replied to mismatched's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I was nauseous and couldn't keep my pain meds down, Tylenol 3..liquid yucky stuff. I ended up using my pain patches to help the soreness go away, did any f you get any with your prescriptions? My doc put them in my kit. A friend told me to put my pain patch on and heating pad over it! Let sit for 23-30 minutes or more and I felt lovely in no time! And no pain meds! If you don't have pain pads, I bet the pain patches you can buy at the drugstore will do just fine, (solon pas, Bengay, etc.) Or just heating pad by itself . The heat relaxes your tense irritated muscles on your abdomen. Try it! Betcha you'll be happy you did! -
Sex after weight loss
Emily9654 replied to Chylyn7's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Hi, I found out my low desire is caused that I have low Testosterone.. Found in my pre-op blood work. I'm like WHAT? I'm a female isn't that for a guy? My nurse said no, even us women need a little bit.. So, I googled it and it directly affects women's reproductive ability and yes sexual desire. My nurse said very common for many of her overweight female patients.. she said as I lose weight, I will regain to a more normal level. Just google it and check your blood work, and likely you're the same too. It also can affect ability to lose weight. Thinking about my current stall I might consider finding out how I can increase mine in the meantime. -
Hi, you've gotta GET UP AND MOVE!! Getting rest is fine but every two hours you've gotta walk even if it's down the hallway and back. It gets the blood flowing for you to heal better and feel better. My doctor said that and I know others I've spoken to have said the same. If anyone tells you you gotta stay and lay in bed all day, you're fooling yourself... Don't listen. Whoever friend who's coming in to take care of you and open the blinds and encouraging you to get up, is a GOOD Friend. I had my mine June 30th and was extremely nauseous and sick the first 4 or so days after my surgery. I had no choice but to go to work in 3 days after my sleeve. So I had to get better, Plus getting some B12 and take your vitamins! Will help you get energy and recoup! But get up please! You'll be happy you did,

Ok my surgeon recommends 1000 a day, so the petites are 400mg each, oops, I thought they were 500, I was only taking 2 a day. Anyways, I guess 3-4 day for you? That could be a lot then because heads up, even though they say petites they are actually not that tiny.. they're not horse pills but half the size maybe. But it beats the super sweet citrical gummies. I may even keep investigating because taking 3 of these a day I can say could get daunting.
-
Yeah that's what I have is Caltrate petites, I started cutting them in half but now take them whole also and been fine so far. Although, my surgeon says I'm not supposed to take any pills over the size of a pencil eraser and clearly these are much bigger. So, I hope they're okay cause I don't wanna take the time to cut in half..and gummies I tried also. Too sweet! And tried bariatric advantage but really couldn't enjoy those either. These petites are my only hope.

Protein Shake Questions
Emily9654 replied to MOMMY2MGM's topic in Weight Loss Surgery Success Stories
I use Isopure but the whey protein powder, either Dutch chocolate or strawberry (GNC stores) started it in pre op and really appreciated it post op because it's thin, no carbs, no sugar, sweetened with stevia just perfectly. And oh, I'm not a good friend of milk either and use almond milk. I also sometimes brew a cup of coffee and mix with some almond milk and the Dutch chocolate protein powder and I've got a yummy mocha shake! -
Is eating fruit okay?
Emily9654 replied to pinkbunies's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Hi, pinkbunnies, did you happen to also get by chance a hiatal hernia fix as well with your sleeve for your acid reflux? I had a hiatal hernia and my doc said a lot of overweight women have, so very common..google it, it also helped me pass to get the surgery, It's causes symptoms of heartburn and acid reflux. My doc prescribed Pepcid AC berry chewable 2x a day or he also proposed gas x strips I took very often in the first week after surgery. Which have helped me tremendously. I know that when I forget to take my Pepcid AC I'll definitely have the heart burn. a lot of times at night while I'm in bed... So, maybe this helps? Pepcid AC is really awesome. -
Hi choosehope, I see you asked what iron are you using? My nurse from post op recommended to take slow FE iron,.. It's time release that said it's easy to digest. I just make sure I take a few hours after I take my evening vitamins, calcium, Because I heard with calcium so especially it will make the tummy upset.

Protein protein protien
Emily9654 replied to yibarra4's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
Isopure!!! Dutch chocolate! quest protein power is okay too! And bars from quest are the best. You can purchase at GNC. Isopure is pure whey protein, no carbs, no sugar and just sweetened perfectly with stevia. I do it with almond milk because less calories than regular milk and tastes just great. Also, because it's thin , it goes down more easily than thicker protein shakes like pure protein. I didn't like it either! Two scoops will get you 50 grams of protein..easy done, -
Yes I agree with Pejala! They're checking your overall health and things to watch for to show you would have a hard time with the surgery. You should be fine!
-
Man, they gave me those barbaric advantage vitamins to try and I didn't like them! Yuck yuck yuck.. Are you taking your vitamins with your iron by chance? I know most docs recommend irons As mine did,, if you take iron with vitamins or even vitamin c, it will make you sick. You have to take at different times, I'm taking centrum chewables vitamins, calcium citrate, iron, D3, and B12 sublinguals. I'm thinking of switching to juice plus instead..they taste better. Cause I also don't care for centrum Chews too much..too sweet.

how much did you eat 16 days post op- surgery was July 15th
Emily9654 replied to roxy79's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
I'd say re-count your protein, and make sure you're getting enough, with what you ate you listed, to be honest it doesn't look like it. I had my sleeve on June 30 and if you're like me, there is no way you can eat enough protein that you need. My surgeon said I should be getting 60gms of protein a day. And realize through this forum and research that most surgeons instruct that regime for healing and to keep us satisfied. Really because protein stays with you longer than anything else you could ever eat. My favorite protein powder is Isopure Dutch chocolate, with no sugar, only stevia in it, pure whey protein and no carbs. You can buy at GNC stores...When I have my protein shake with two scoops of protein powder with 16 ounces of almond milk, I am not hungry at all most of the day. When I don't I'm hungrier, I've tried some days without. also, drinking 60 ounces of water helps me not be hungry either. So, ask your Doctor/ nurse but that's what most are recommending... -

Stalling at 3 weeks Am i alone?
Emily9654 replied to nikireed4_22's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
Hi, I am 4 weeks post op and feeling a slow in my weight loss too but know I'll pick it back it again..I'm hoping so at least! I can't believe though to hear you're in pain though 3 weeks after surgery. I am sorry to hear..I was in pain and very sick from anesthesia after surgery in the first few days. I was nauseous I couldn't keep anything down, not even my Tylenol 3 prescribed for pain. I had some family tell me after their surgeries it was essential to make yourself keep walking I around. Even if for a few minutes every few hours. Once I did that I was dramatically better and back to myself by the next week. 1 week post op. I also put my pain patch on and put a heating pad on my tummy area and that really took the pain away too. Yeah I hear being not yourself for first month or so, but in pain? maybe you should talk to your nurses, doctor? Because in my opinion that may not be normal.. -
