Hi, all! Just wondered if anyone gave up or continued their Starbucks (or any coffee) habit after the band? I gave it up when I did the pre-surgery 2-week liquid diet and I am now one week past surgery so almost a month. I was never really a breakfast eater - would have a coffee until lunch.

Pain in chest on right side - normal?
hmj2015 posted a topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I started the mushy diet today. My banding was last Thursday. Every time I have eaten, I get a sharp pain on my right side at the top of my ribs or under my right breast. Is this normal? I feel like I am stopping eating before I get full but not sure what this feeling is being caused by. It is better when I lie down but standing up it is sharp and almost throbbing. Please let me know if you have experience this. Thank you so much. -
Just Curious about cc you were at for green zone.

Thanks for these posts!! I had my 2nd fill appt earlier this week. I was at 6 cc's (in a 10 cc band) before this appt and my doc didn't give me any more of a fill. I lost 10 lbs since my last appt (1 month & 1 week prior) and she said that is on track and where I should be. I told her I feel like I can eat so much and she said that is normal sometimes and we should wait to see where I am in a month. I am down 33 lbs total since my pre-surgery liquid diet started on July 21. Lost 16 lbs on the liquid diet until my surgery on August 6 and lost the rest since then. I asked her where she sees most "green zone" patients and she said 6.5-7.2 cc's. Wondering why she didn't just take me there. It's just very frustrating because I feel like the loss has really stalled in the past 2 weeks. I feel like I am eating too much, I can gulp Water, I don't have to chew chew chew, have never had a stuck episode, can eat any type of food....I just wanted to get to that green zone! But I do trust my doctor, so trying to be patient. -
Hi. I was banded on August 6 and with the pre-surgery liquid diet starting on July 21 to today, I am down 25 lbs. I haven't really lost anything over the last 2 weeks and I'm wondering if I am eating the right things. I know high protein/low carb but was hoping to find out ideas of what meals banders typically eat in a day. I have 6 cc's in my band since my first fill but don't always feel restricted. Thanks for your help!

Thanks, CTJohn! A lot of that was pre-surgery liquid diet. I am down 29 today. Still feel like I am eating a lot! I have my second fill appointment the 2nd week in October.

How long have you had the band? Maybe you need another adjustment in order to fill more full?

What is the rudest thing someone has said to you?!?!

One thing that happened to me in GRADE school ... The boys starting calling me "prego" because I had a little belly. I was in FIFTH grade. That tease followed me for years. They would say the tag line from Prego sauce, too - "it's all in there". It was mortifying and even when I lost a lot of weight in high school, I was always afraid of them bringing it up again. -
I was told to cut out caffeine during the pre-op diet and up to six weeks after but don't know why. I did not drink it until I started the puréed stage and now I have it maybe 2-3 times per week. For me, I don't do artificial sweeteners so the sugar/creamer is bad too. But I noticed that a tall caramel macchiato with skim milk has the same calories & sugar as a Greek yogurt I was encouraged to eat plus 10 grams of protein. I don't usually eat breakfast - coffee was always it for me.

Thank you for the responses to this question. VERY helpful!!!!

Hi, everyone. I just was banded last Thursday and want to thank all of you for the great posts I have been reading that keep me going!! I am down 16 lbs since the start of my pre-surgery liquid diet. I went to my post-op appt today and she said that about 25% of people gain back at this point and 25% stay the same. I am so worried about this and not continuing to lose. Has this happened to anyone? I know it will discourage me and knock me off track so quickly.

Thanks, bandedandbashful! It looks like our stats are pretty similar. I am also 5'9" - started out at 245 lbs and I am down 20 as of today - was banded on August 6. My goal weight is 165 - yours is better than mine!! I just remember being at 165 and eating healthy but splurging when I wanted to and walking a lot, and felt GOOD and THIN!! I can't wait to get back to that feeling!!

Do the fills hurt? My first is 4 weeks post-surgery and I'm thinking that area is still going to be tender. How is the weight loss going for you 6 weeks out?

Hi, girls. I had my lap band surgery the same day and having the same issues. I am down 18 lbs total but that includes my pre-surgery weight loss with the liquid diet. Worried about the stall/regain but everyone says that is normal and it will start to come off again. How much do you want to lose total? I'm hoping 75 lbs. -

My port incision/area is also still sore. I cannot bend over or it feels like it is pulling.

I am really not a fan of artificial sweeteners. I know that isn't great for the band since they say to do that and avoid sugar but I have a lot of breast cancer in my family (4 aunts on my mom's side plus lost my grandmother to it) and I try to avoid the artificial stuff. Problem is - I don't like "non-sweet" coffee. I used to get a hazelnut macchiato with skim milk. Not the best, I know! : /
