I sleep upright for the first 3 weeks. It was the only way that I could sleep comfortably.

The things no one tells you about post op life...
Hello new me replied to lexiemustang's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
No regrets! Even with the sore tailbone, weird poop habits, and unsolicited comments, it was the best thing I have ever done for myself. -
When and how to start maintenance?
Hello new me replied to Hello new me's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
VSGAnn2014: Sorry answering from my iPad doing weird thing. This is great information. I would say that I am looking forward to adding more calories, but scared at the same time of what will happen. I know all of us fear gaining back the weight that we he all worked so hard to lose. A lot of what we are doing is just as much mental as it is physical. My capacity is still very small, so trying to figure out how to increase calories is difficult. I still have a protein shake a day. My MD likes for us to do this for the first year. I do indulge from time to time now. My idea of indulging is a bite of a cookie or 4-5 chips. I still have good control, but I know that will change as time goes on. I hope that I can be successful in the maintenance phase as those who have responded. When you guys are adding calories is it in the form of nuts, peanuts butter, fruit, etc? These are mostly things that I still stay away from right now. Suggestions on easy things to increase calories in a healthy way would be great (as I said in my OP, I was self paid. I don't have the resources of a nutritionist without paying a bunch out of pocket). -

When and how to start maintenance?
Hello new me replied to Hello new me's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
Thanks all of the replies. I will just continue the course and see where my body decides it wants to go. I do want a bounce range to stay within my stretch goal, so that I have a little play room for vacations and holidays. It has been an incredible journey so far. Don't regret my surgery at all. Really enjoying this new life that I have been handed! -
Gastric Sleeve / Day Surgery
Hello new me replied to time4mefinally's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
My surgery was same day surgery. I went back the next day to be seen and get IV fluids. I was self pay, so I saved about $3000 doing it that way. I had already picked up all my meds prior to Surgery. -
We eat out all the time. I am 10 months out from surgery. I order what ever protein looks good to me at the moment. When it arrives at the table, I portion out the amount I want. When I am done, I just have the waiter take it away. My husband usually has a few bites if it interest him. If not, it is just like eating out pre-op without cleaning my plate. I am really not a big leftover type of person. At first it bothers me with the questions and looks from the staff, but now I really don't care. I eat like a naturally skinny person. I love this new life!

too much soup for lunch?
Hello new me replied to miterin62's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Can I suggest adding a protein (ie chicken etc) to your soup. It will make you full sooner and add the benefit of protein to your meal. I am 10 months out. When I eat any type of soup, I mix 2 oz of chicken with my 1/4 to 1/2 cup of soup (I need moist protein). It fills me right up. -
Post op woman on the pill question
Hello new me replied to mmorris4's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I started back on the pill a month post op. No unexpected complications. My OBGYN did tell me my period were going to be more irregular due to the rapid weight lose, but they should even out know that I am 10 months post op with the weight lose slowing down. No,issues with the pill in her opinion though. -
Enjoying Food After Surgery/ Serving Amount
Hello new me replied to kellyann311's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I am 10 months out from surgery. 1. I can eat almost anything I want. However, I choose not to. I am still in the weight lose phase, so I try to avoid carbs. If I do eat carbs, it is only a bite or two to get ride of cravings. I am one of those weird people that can do it. I have also found that I can't eat broccoli. It makes me sick every time I try. 2. I can eat 2-3 oz of protein with a few bites of vegetables. If I eat some or stew it can be anywhere from 1/2 to 1 cup depending on the day. I know there are slider foods, but I typically as a treat eat 5 or 6 chips, a handful of popcorn or 1/2 a cookie. I am satisfied with any of these thing. When I start to get a full sensation, I stop eating. Eating more is not a pretty site for me. It will all come back up. 3. I don't regret my surgery at all. It is the best thing I have ever done for myself. -
Oscar Meyers P3 portable protein packs
Hello new me replied to Lgr3's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
I personally eat them when I need something to grab and go. I prefer the turkey or chicken ones. The ones with ham have to much fat in the ham for my preference. -
All Inclusive Resorts
Hello new me replied to cseidman's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
I have been to 3 AI resorts in Mexico since my surgery in August. I have really had no issues at all. Plan to drink plenty of water, since it is hot and you can dehydrate much easier than you think. Eating is never a issue. The resorts usually serve smaller portions if there are sit down meals, since the have multiple courses. There is multiple protein options at all meals, so it is easy to find something. Once I get my plate, I portion out what I want to eat (i.e. cut the protein portion in to what I can eat). At first the waiters are concerned the first day that you don't like anything, but after that they get use to you leaving food on your plate and don't say anything. Personally, I get so caught up in the beauty of the place and being able to sit back and relax by the pool that I forget to eat as much as I should. My husband has to remind me that it is time to eat. Go enjoy! Have a great time! -

Cruise 3 months post op
Hello new me replied to valm's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
You can do this and have fun. I went to Belize 3 1/2 months after surgery. I had no problems at all. Looked for proteins to eat at each meal. I did take some protein bars with me, but only ate 1/2 of one a day. We stayed so busy doing activities that it wasn't much of a problem. I am also one of those people that can have a bite or 2 of desert or such and be completely satisfied. Go have fun and don't worry about it. You will be great. It is a vacation. It will just be one that you eat a lot less on. It seems scary at first, but you will learn to adjust to eating in the real world. I am a little over 9 months out now. I have been out of the country 4 times since surgery without a problem at all. -
I just replied to another's the about this. I went to Belize 3 months out. I went to Cancun 6 months out. I had no issues with eating on vacations what so ever. There is always protein available. Go have fun. Nothing to worry about!

Holiday to Thailand 5 months after sleeve
Hello new me replied to GG123's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
You will be fine. I went to Belize 3 months out from surgery. I had no issues. Yes, I may have eaten off all of my travel partners plates instead of ordering my own. I had a blast with no food issues at all. -
I am sitting here in the tub trying to enjoy a hot bath. However, I am trying to find a comfortable way to sit. Where did all of these bones on the backside of my body come from? I keep moving around, but can't find anywhere that doesn't hurt to sit for more than a few minutes. NSV for sure!! What are some of your recent NSV?

Vomiting after eating
Hello new me replied to ExCookieMonster's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
Yes, completely normal for me. I had my surgery almost 9 months ago. I still have issues with vomiting if I eat to much. Thankfully, I have learned to slow down when eating. However, it still happens from time to time. -
Day 23 update......
Hello new me replied to cowboys4life's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Great job! Keep up it up. -
Call your MD in the morning. It is important for them to know what is going on so that they can treat you in the right way. If you start having pain in your legs or shortness of breath you need to seek medical attention as soon as possible. It will be fine, but you need to know what to look for and to keep your MD informed.

I will start this off as saying I am a RN. You really need to talk with your MD. It isn't necessarily the issues of absorption, but the reason we have to be off birth control is the due to increased risk of blood clots. The morning after pill is a high concentration of birth control which increases your risk of blood clot even more. Talk to your doctor PLEASE!!

I had the sleeve surgery so that I can have a normal life. I am 8 months out now. I am already at my MD goals with 100% of my weight lose achieved. I currently weigh 155lb at 5' 7. I have a glass of wine a night. It is counted into my daily calories and macros. I consume around 1100 calories a day and keep my carbs under 50 per day, so not a problem for me. I also work out religiously with over 13,000 steps per day. I didn't start this until also 6 months out, but it works for me. I have been able to continue to lose weight and have my wine. However, I include it in my fitness pal daily.

Weird s**t your body does (or "I know I ate too much, I need to sneeze.."
Hello new me replied to KindaFamiliar's topic in Post-op Diets and Questions
I am in New Mexico right now. We are at 7,000 feet. I am visiting for 6 days keeping the Grandkids. I have had issues eating a lot of thing that I normally don't have issues with. I seriously think it is the altitude. I have no other explanations. I typically have no issues when I am at home. -
I am 8 months out from surgery. I really don't get hungry. If I don't eat every 3-4 hours, I start feeling sluggish or dizzy. It my signal to know when I I haven't eaten on track. I have a very busy job and try to eat about every 3 hours, but there are times that I get caught up in something and just forget. When these feeling come on, I eat a little protein snack then I am good to go for another several hours.

Need Lunch Box Recommendations :)
Hello new me replied to JennsJourney's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I also roll with a Piggly Wiggly bag (yes, I am from the South) to work everyday. It is the easy throw away bag at the end of the day. I am forgetful about bringing lunch boxes home. I also have a couple of The compartment box that I got from Amazon. I am almost 8 months post-op so they hold a day of food for me. The only issue I have with them is that I have to wash the individual compartments when I get home. I am lazy about that, so I prefer the easy throw away[emoji1]
