I had surgery 8/4 and have lost 21 pounds. I was very happy. When you start at 210, you lose the same percentage as a heavier person. I am only expecting a 2 pound loss per week from Month 2 till goal weight. Before surgery, I could lose 30-40 pounds, and then get down no further. So...the loss is slow but I am down to 189. I went from a size 18 pants to a comfortable size 12 and tight size 10 pants. I look like a normal person. I am not content, I want to weigh125-135. So, while we don't lose as fast, the small weight loss puts us into another category quickly. We are able to exercise and move more quickly than a 300 pound person, who lost 40 pounds and still weighs 260.

I babysit two grandkids two days a week. One is 3 1/2 and the other is 1 1/2 years old. They both weight about 30 pounds. We told them Grandma has boo boo's and can't pick them up. I sat on the floor, and let them get on my lap. Every couple days they want to look at my boo boo's. They have a rule that they have to eat healthy, and can have some junk food after, or a couple times a day. So they are eating healthier, more cheese sticks, veggies, and fruit. They also have pretzels, donuts, or chips. When they try to feed me, my response is, "Grandma ate tooooo many before, and now I can't have any until my big belly is gone." My 3 1/2 year old will often check me if I am eating a popsicle with them, (mine are sf) I'll have to tell her, that it is okay for me, that mine come in a different package. So they know that something is different, but no worrying about the procedure.

Does anyone stock up on smaller clothing?
LynnAlex replied to losing_the_band's topic in Gastric Bypass Surgery Forums
I only shop at Salvation Army. I try to only buy clothing that is 50% off. Every day or week the color changes. Yesterday all purple tags were 50% off. I have been buying 1-2 sizes smaller that what I am currently wearing. I try them on and look for pants that need about 2-4 inches to zip. I only buy name brands. (Vera Wang, Eddie Bauer, Talbot's, Jones, etc.) I also bought bathing suits in 4 sizes. I want to swim at the gym and know it will be hard to find swimsuits in the winter months. I look for high quality. I bought 2 long sleeve shirts, 2 short sleeve shirts 5 pairs of jeans, 4 bathing suits for $32. If I lose weight and they don't fit, who cares. -
Not able to eat my 2.5 oz anymore
LynnAlex replied to Niki15's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
We had surgery on the same day. I could eat a lot of food. I was worried about the amount. The doctor and NUT said I was doing great. One day I got in 117 grams of Protein and had over 900 calories. Well a couple of days ago, I could only drink about 3 oz of protein. I went from 700 calories down to 300-400. I think it is our pouches are healing and the nerves now work. We have restriction. Today I had 1 bite of egg, 6 oz of protein, 1 strawberry, 1 oz of chicken, 1 tbsp of red cabagge. When I saw how few calories I had, I sipped about 5 oz of protein down. It is wonderful!! Tomorrow I will really work to get in more protein. -
Our bariatric binder includes a section for stuck food. It says to take some meat tenderizer in Water to disolve the food.

Be Honest! Did You Cheat on Your Liquid Diet?
LynnAlex replied to Sunshine3073's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I started mine a week early. I had one Protein (beef, chicken) for dinner and shakes. When my real week came up, I was supposed to only have shakes, sf popsicles, sf Jello and broth. I made my own broth and so the first 3 days, I had about 2 ounces of shredded chicken in my broth. The last 4 days I was a good girl. -
I'll be praying for you Niki. I hope you have peace and I hope today flys by for you. Congrats to you for losing so much weight on pre-op. Hope we both have an early appointment. Take some deep breaths and visualize the new you, Sweet.....

I feel like a young-un getting ready to have a baby. I've been cleaning the house, outside and inside. Surgery is Tuesday 8/4. Instructions said to wash sheets and towels 2 days before surgery and start taking showers with an anti-bacterial soap. Good Luck to all this coming week. I know there are a lot of lot of us beginning a new life this week.

Clear Liquid....does this include a protein skake made with water?
LynnAlex replied to flipper72's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Not sure about your plan, but my guidelines say, sf Jello, sf popsicle, clear broth, de-caf coffee or tea, Water, Crystal light. Most surgical procedures require clear liquids 24 hours before surgery and do not include Protein. -
Lorilove I feel your pain. I love to exercise. I am pre-op and am very interested in the replies you are getting. I have had to temporarily change some things in my life that I consider unhealthy. I was off all diet sodas and artificial sweeteners for several years. It seems i have to take a couple of steps backwards to leap forward. I have to have the artificial sweeteners in my Protein shakes for a month before surgery and possibly 2-3 months after surgery. At that point I can use fruit sparingly and a little Stevia for my shakes, and eventually use dense protein. I will also have to go backward on my fitness goals. I weighed 235, but usually weighed between 200-210 and have always been in sports. I do long distance cycling, hiking, swimming, kayaking, etc. The problem was I ate too much, way too much. So, it seems like I have to paddle backwards a bit to go forward. I am going to concentrate on my food intake, and let my fitness take second fiddle for about 6 months. I'll continue to walk, and start a couch to 5k run when I am able. I will start a weight lifting program, but I am going to curb my natural desire for cardio (if I can). I will try to introduce more of my fun sports as I lose weight.

struggling with liquid diet (August 5th surgery)
LynnAlex replied to lauren8486's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
My surgery date is 8/4. I am drinking 3-4 Premier Protein drinks AND either having chicken broth w/2 oz of chicken at night when I am sick of the Protein Drink OR having 3 oz of steak for dinner. My doctor wants me on all Protein shakes, broth, sf Jello and popsicles. So many people get to eat a small meal with carbs, I don't get it. SO.... I am changing mine to include a low fat meat one time per day. I am a low BMI. I also exercise about 2 hours a day. I love swimming, biking, hiking. I may get scared on the last 3 days and follow doctor's plan. -
Anyone have prior abdominal surgery?
LynnAlex replied to requiem's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I had 2 c-sections in the 80's. In 2000, I had a tummy tuck, with muscle tightening. The scar is breastbone to pubic area and hip to hip. My surgery is scheduled to by a lap RNY. So, I think it depends on what they find when they try to do the lap.
