Well, here's a fun one folks. My daughter and I decided that we were going to get WLS. We hunted till we found a place where our insurance would be excepted and went to the seminar in February. We began the doctor supervised weight management as soon as we got the letter telling us that the insurance had oked it. I had 3 months, she had 6. I saw my nurse practitioner in May. She saw hers in June. We received the paperwork for our labs in the mail to do locally, because we live 2 1/2 hours away. When we went to have the labs done it was discovered that the orders hadn't been signed. In trying to fix things, I found that the nurse practitioner I was to see had left, so I had to see the one that my daughter was seeing. I made an appointment for the same day she was to have her second visit. Last week we were told that she had gone on vacation and while gone decided to quit. Now neither of us has a nurse practitioner. We were told to keep the appointments with the psychiatrist, the GI doctor and the cardiologist, get mammogram, colonoscopy, and PAP smear (which my doctor says I don't need because I've had a hysterectomy) then contact the clinic and they would tell the doctor. He would then decide if there was anything else we needed to do or if we were good to go. This makes me very uncomfortable because I'll have no one to talk to if I have questions. Should I go ahead, or should I wait till a new nurse practitioner is found.

Well, I'm slowly getting there. I've finished my 3 month supervised weight management, (went from 362 to 338) finishing my psych eval this afternoon, cardiologist and GI the 24 th.

She found one before I got a chance to tell her. This is going to be a busy month for us, so I'm glad she did. I think whomever it is, is also in Temple. The closer I get to getting the preliminary stuff done, the more nervous I get. Maybe if I have this on my own it will help me get through the next two months without crawling under my bed.

I kind of do. I haven't had my surgery yet, but I lost 28 lbs so far on the weight management. I put on a pair of pants that I bought at Burks Outlet awhile back. They were a little big when I bought them, but because it"s hard to find clothes that I can even get on at a reasonable price, I bought them any way. Well, I put them on, took three steps and was not wearing them anymore. I started wailing like a list waif. My daughter came in and said, "MOM! What's wrong?" "My pants fell off," I told her. "Mom," she said. " That's a good thing. Isn't it" "No!" I wailed again. "I'm losing me, and on top of that, I can't keep buying new clothes." I sobbed, then cried out, "I'm going to be naked." The thought of losing all that weight terrifies me. I have always been the "fluffy Nana" (grandkids words) that my grandkids melted into for comfort, the giver of soft, fluffy, hugs. Who will I be now? Also, and this is total vanity on my part, I have always looked nearly ten years younger than I am. After the surgery, I'm afraid I'll look every bit of my age, and then some.

Tylenol is the only non-nsaid pain reliever I know of the is non-narcatic . I have degenerative disc disease, and have a pain pump implant. It feeds dalaudid directly to my spine twenty-four/seven. I also take it orally when needed. Since I have lost 28 lbs in the last few months, that has been a lot less often. I am hoping with the surgery, I can have the pump removed completely when it comes up for replacement in about a year, but both doctors are doubtful as the injury to my back is permanent.

Thanks, I never would have even thought about those little grocery store samples as making a difference.

Where is that? We live about 2 1/2 hour from Temple in the tiny town of De Leon.

Cool, where are you in the process? I have to finish my psych evaluation, see the GI doctor and the cardiologist. I have that all next month. My daughter's having trouble with the psych evaluation because she can't find anyone that takes her Medicaid.

Thing is I've been told by others that the Dr. Is quite good. But I do wonder why both left like they did.

Hi everyone, I had to create a new account because I had phone troubles and forgot all my info. I am a 54-year-old woman, with 4 grown children, 11grandchildren, 1 living two-hour, 4 step-grandchildren, and, though my husband passed away before he even knew it was in the making, 1 beautiful step-great-grandchild. These are the reason that I, along with my youngest daughter, made the decision for WLS. My husband passed away in 2013, at the age of 61, due to COPD, caused by smoking. Life style changes made earlier in his life may have given us more time together, but he couldn't make them. He left behind some devastated children and grandchildren, and never knew he was to be a great-grandfather. I am 5'5" tall an weigh 342. When I began this journey, about 5 months ago. I weighed 368. I want to see my grandchildren grow up, and play with my great-grandchildren. I will probably not be able to do that if I don't choose to do something about my weight. I was recently diagnosed with diabetes, have high blood pressure, and severe back problems, just to name a few of the health issues that are due to my weight. That being said, I like myself. I'm not looking to lose weight because I think people will like me better, or because I think that everyone should be a size 2. (God forbid that should happen, He made women curvy for a reason) I have completed my 3 month required doctor supervised weight management and am thrilled that I have lost quite a bit. I'm continuing this as, while I know I can't reach my goal without surgery, I like what I have accomplished. I had my initial visit with my nurse practitioner back in June, but she left the practise and I'll not see the new one till next month. My doctor requires a colonoscopy at my age, along with a mammogram, and PAP smear. My primary physician says he'll not do the PAP smear due to the fact that I had a hysterectomy better than 10 years ago. We'll see where that goes. Well, that's actually the short version of where I'm at now, so I will hope to make some new friends, offer support, and reach out for help.
